Explain to me why I should not let this color my experience and form my stereotypes?

Good for you. Another one who wants to just pretend like there is not a problem with behavior in our society.

Negro brah, your Trump / DeSantis supporting ass forgot to add negro in front of behavior. Cause all us white folk always be sayin please and thank you, nope. And you were in a bar where a dude asked you to buy him a drink and you did? And the issue is he was a black dude? Yeah, let’s all us kumbya with “genuine” responses to your op & thread. Daft punk, not you of course, but some vintage German techno would be good soundtrack here….

Unfortunately for you the reality is a majority of them tend to be rude and arrogant and demanding and spoiled and entitled.

And you know it's true whether or not you have the temerity to actually admit it.

Like I said many times it doesn't apply to all of them but it applies to more than 51% of them in general. That's a pattern and it's a problem and it's not my problem that I simply have the sack to point it out.

But you can go on pretending like that's not actually happening like they're just well-behaved individuals in society.

As long as, as a group that majority is allowed to determine what people see most of the time, then that's the perception that people are going to have whether you like it or not.

Pathetic that you have accused me of temerity about this particular subject my right honorable friend. You’ve stepped right into the ranks of the damned now.

I'm sorry that your opinion of me is now lower in your eyes but it doesn't matter to me.

I have said nothing here that is wrong or that is not the truth.

But people have been hated in the past for speaking the truth so it will be no different.

So feel free to place me on ignore or simply ignore me. The sun will still rise in the morning

Nope. In honor of spike and our private conversations, I’ll not be taking you up on your offer to play the victim. Pathetic though this thread may be, as well as your complete lack of a response when I shut you down on your inane and confused attempt to mix personal tax liability issues with wealth. Do you have to get your Father’s approval to post here? I honestly ask…

I really don't care what your opinion is. I have shared the truth about what happened to me and you attempted to homo shame me like I'm really supposed to be embarrassed that I went to a bar....

But if I remember correctly at least your credit you didn't call me a liar like the rest of your comrades.

I wish you could have had my experience so then you could tell me how wrong I was to tell things the way I told it. But it's easier for you to look down on me than it is to actually acknowledge that I might be telling the truth.

I love how progressive they're okay when they try to homo shame others but if I was going to do that you would be one of the first ones to come here and call me a homophobic bigot.

So please don't play high and mighty on me.

Feel completely free to wash your hands and exit the thread

The op stated that he threw a box of matches at the guy. Interesting how this detail is recalled. Match?

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of racism: you need not believe that something is true of 100% of a racial group, for it to be racist. I noticed earlier, you used a proportion of something like 85 a-holes, to every 15 non a-holes, among blacks. Of course, this leaves out your estimates for whites, but from your tone & context, it was obvious that you thought the white number was much lower. So yes, saying something like violent behavior, or dishonesty, is far "more prevalent" in one race, certainly passes the test, of racism.

I also noticed your trying to differentiate this as "stereotyping," as opposed to "racism." First of all, those two things are not mutually exclusive. Secondly, if something is moreso considered a stereotype, than racism, it tends to not be a character judgement; rather, it is something like black people are good dancers, or have rhythm, or are good at basketball, or don't like the cold weather, and so forth. Granted, your own citing of their not using the words "please" and "thank you," is the most trivial character complaint, I have ever heard, of blacks.

My criticism of your assumption, is that you have not really laid out your foundation for it, number wise. Even if you had laid out the figures, that 80% of your white customers always say please and thank you (which I would tend to disbelieve), and only 10% of black customers do, and this included a sampling of hundreds of blacks, and even more whites, I would call that compelling evidence, only, for this being true in your area. But you gave no such specifics. This is just your general impression, from the events which stick out, in your memory. The problem is, our memories are not impartial. Once you get the idea that blacks are impolite, you are going to begin noticing, in particular, any instances of this, much more than when the behavior does not match your assumed stereotype.

It reminds me of one time when I was telling a new acquaintance, that I was a discriminating pot smoker; that I was not the type to smoke it, just because it was available. Instead, I maintained, I would always try to assess the vibe, as an oracle of the Spirit of the moment, to receive its wisdom, as to whether or not smoking was the right thing to do, at that given moment. I then began to cite examples of this. But I kept beginning stories, only to remember, part way in that, oh no, I did end up getting high, that time. Finally my listener just laughed, and noted how he understood that having, at some point, passed up on getting high, was going to naturally be the thing that I remembered, and which would leave the bigger impression, than all of the other times, I had partaken in it.

I just want to end with your completely baseless charge, against all the rest of us, that we all know what you say, is really true, but we just must not have your guts, to admit it. Pfft! That is just self-serving justification. Can you not understand how anyone could say the same, about anything they think? To me, that seems a sign of some uncertainty, surrounding this; that the facts you know from experience, are not even incontrovertible enough in your own mind, to not feel a desire to have the confirmation of group approval, even if you have to tell yourself, that most people are just not willing to admit the truth.

Yet you view behavior from a race perspective.
    Instead of a culture perspective.

Of course I believe you. We've both been at this forum long enough to get an Idea of who is trustworthy and who is not and I trust you to have related the events of your experience truthfully.

You just happened to run into a guy at a bar who had a chip on his shoulder who happened to be Black and knew what buttons to push to annoy you.

I'm sure that you've heard the expression: "Living well is the best revenge."
From what you've written, the other guy must live a pretty miserable life if his source of amusement is to spend time in bars mooching off of more generous people and throwing his "Black privilege" around.

I'd just try to forget about the incident and be grateful that you don't have to spend your life trying to shame others to buy you drinks in bars.

It could have but it didn't and based on the way this thread has played, even if this story wasn't fishy-sounding, I have to wonder if this would've even been a subject if they weren't black.

You'd think the OP would take the hint, what with all the responses here that are questioning, downplaying or outright dismissing the story, and including one poster saying they have a history of iffy comments like this, I don't think all of that is a coincidence or people "not in tune with reality."

There's a reason you have hardly anyone siding with them. Everyone else isn't the problem here I think....

Of course not, because "a majority of them tend to be rude and arrogant and demanding and spoiled and entitled" and the OP proves my racially biased point. Now, what's another word for that?

It's called a stereotype and it's based in reality. It doesn't make me a racist to point out what is obvious to most who are not willing to point it out.

Bigotry means having a lack of tolerance for the beliefs or cultures of others.

I am very bigoted when someone is a rude a******. And it does not make me a bigot to point out that there is no shortage of said rude *******s in one group versus another group.

Should I just simply sit here and ignore the fact that there's more rude behavior in one group versus another?

Should I just sit here and pretend that that's not true.

Give me and everyone else a damn break already. Your experience here is simply insufficient to support your attempt to argue, well, argue what exactly? You admit in the OP that you stereotype people and in fact you've done it to me in this response. Comrades? I'm not the one supporting the party that supports Putin. Not the party that has been labeled with Red as its color, appropriately it seems. Quite the twist that better dead than red Roy Cohn protégé Trump is the leader of the Reds in US politics, isn't it?

There are several topics that interest me around this place, one of which I've had to more or less eliminate from participating in too frequently. That of course is the matter of those of you members that continue to support Trump and the evolving vacuous agenda of Republican politics which seemingly represents less and less any aspects of what has been traditionally cast as conservative values and more aspects of manipulation of social divisions with the primary accomplishments being such as the Dobbs decision and the Ryan tax revisions. One member's almost gleeful posts regarding Bismarckian strategies favoring keeping control of the government contrary to the very simple vision statement of creating a government of, by and for the people. A vision statement issued by Abraham Lincoln, representative to a large extent of the Republican party at the time, but no longer. Imperfectly followed through after the US Civil War, the Republican party failed to assert this vision on behalf of the former slaves and a system of peonage was established that effectively created a two tier society for the majority of the next hundred years. Then, punctuated by Strom Thurmond, the Republican party flipped such that it now has the support of the Solid South. No f'g ands, ifs or maybes about it.

Cliché it is this thread from you. Pathetic actually, attempting to spin this one interaction as negros are rude. And I was just joking and flipping you some business about the gay part of it, but re-reading the OP, you've actually described a scene straight out of a Ryan Murphy script, and I apologize for calling you out on your apparently unintentional outing of yourself. Are you now actually claiming that this wasn't a pickup interaction? The hostile friction from the guy with the rude, rough and tumble, "why don't you buy me a drink?" And you bought him a drink? Then proceeded to play out a dance over a smoke? And almost got physical about it?

    C'mon Man!

A safety mechanism? I don't enter bars with a lot of harleys parked all over the place, I avoid skinny blondes with long stringy hair and missing teeth, and I avoid crowds with boisterous individuals.. It's just self preservation. Would you not avoid a group with nazi paraphernalia? (as would I)? I avoid groups of heavily tattooed and pierced individuals also... not all discrimination is hinged on skin color, but most of it is prudent.

A result of a large percentage of that races behavior?
