But then he is demonstrated to be reincarnated-- because he picked up a baby rattle or some such that had belonged to the previous Dalai Lama. Cause that is a sign. lol Yes. There is one born every minute. Here on the throne being supported by others at age 15.
The whole concept of reincarnation doesn't even make sense in Buddhism, so I've never understood why Vajrayana Buddhists focus on it so much. There is no "self" or soul in Buddhism to be reincarnated. Most Buddhists prefer the term "rebirth" instead and they make it clear that it isn't actually the same person/soul being reborn over and over. As far as this creepiness goes, I suppose it's possible that there could be some sort of cultural reference joke going on here that is more innocent than it sounds, but short of that stretch I don't see any excuse for that kind of behavior.

There is certainly a lot of tap dancing around this topic and the reincarnation thing. In checking out various sects of Buddhism I found a total lack of emperical evidence for claims being made other than the sort of "I know because I know" we see all the time in this religion section of PF. I was actually a participant at one time although totally embarassed now at this sort of gullibility in my youth. I do have to say this sort of detachment is impressive.
It tends to involve sex while suppressing orgasm as a big part of it, but as a spiritual practice where semen is considered a sacred substance that men need to retain. Tantric Buddhists and tantric Hindus both practice it, as well as Taoists. It can actually be pretty dangerous.
Having sex with young children is an old tradition with Tibetan monks. Usually it was done with girls.

There's supposedly a common Tibetan joke about grandfathers telling their grandkids to eat their tongue, from what I've heard so far. I say this as someone who doesn't have a lot of love for the Dalai Lama. He's hardly an innocent man. But I don't think this was necessarily anything sexual.
