I meant with respect to gender affirming care mostly.

There's also talk of a Texas "Don't Say Gay" law which is exactly what Disney disagreed with in the first place and why this mess came about:

DeSantis is not responsible for the loss of capital Disney is suffering as it's stocks tank and the value up the company is in a nose dive and Americans refuse to gibe their money to companies such as Disney. Did you even read what rhe CEO said. You do realize the management and board have a fiduciary duty to the investors and were they to be doing this simply because they want to engage in a pissing match with the state of Flordia they may be setting themselves up for a major stockholder lawsuit. And they also have severly harmed some of their employees who had already moved across the country upending their families and can either move back or quit.

Disney needs to get it's act together and decide whether it's purpose is liberal social activism organization which the majority of it's cusotmers oppose or a family entertainment. company.

I think you're missing the theme. Engage is social advocacy your customers do not support and lose your shirts.

"according to people familiar with the matter. Disney is in the midst of reducing head count by 7,000 and slashing $5.5 billion from content and administrative budgets."

Now all you have to do is prove causation.

What, you can't? Color me shocked.

Probably a smart move. My guess is they can't afford it.

You make the mistake of confusing the LGBQT haters with the "majority" of Disney's customers. Just as the MAGA Trumpers think they are the silent majority, when, in reality, they are a loud and obnoxious minority.

In any case, the new GOP, err, Trump party, is showing its real, "pro business" colors here. Why are we not surprised? Could you imagine the howling of the RW if a Dem politician would have caused a company to pull $1 billion investments from a state? On the other hand, when DeSantis does it, not a peep.

Now, I don't really care about Disney, they are like any other large corp that only has profit in mind. What I care about is DeSantis using his position for his anti-LGBQT crusade, which is purely driven by the hate of his voters for people that are different.

Funny, reading the comments on the Facebook article for this and impressed with how much better of a grasp the average American has on the subject than our resident liberals here:

Actually, 25% of the population of Florida voted for Trump while only 15% of the population of California voted for Trump.. Per capita makes allot of difference!

True Fascism is the union of corporate and state power. Fascism is like what we had during the pandemic. Get vaccinated, or get fired. Or when corporations like Planned Parenthood use the media to demonize those who have views that conflict with corporate profits.

So, does Disney feels they cannot run a profitable business unless their grounds are considered sovereign??? And we should be bothered by that?

You make the mistake that the majority of people support this sexualization of our children and the support for castrating them and sterializing them and confusing them into believing they are something they are not and having it shoved down their throats.

The majority of the people don't support "castrating them and sterilizing them", i.e. children, although I am sure you are being spoon fed these kind of conspiracy theories on Fox News daily. The majority of the people also don't support LGBQT hate, which is the driver behind the DeSantis crusade.

    1) Disney had a signed agreement that had been in place for decades and helped FL with finances in terms of bonds; Disney was responsible for their domain.
    2) Just because you don't like their entertainment, you falsely accuse them of something. Basically another MAGA cancel culture.

Good. Hopefully they will go out of business or move entirely out of state. Florida could use that land to make more money for the state in the long run. It can be developed into any number of things. But, if Disney stays, it could be used for prisons.

NO other districts have been eliminated. But you're fine with fascism, so it makes no difference.

I just did. It is not my fault you don't know the difference between a balance sheet and an income statement. Geez.

Even Macrotrends disagrees with you on net profits/net income with Disney.

    On the OP:

"...the company made clear that $17 billion in planned investment in Walt Disney World was on the line."

    Here is the complete quote

This is how the quote ends: ....“Does the state want us to invest more, employ more people and pay more taxes, or not?”“Does the state want us to invest more, employ more people and pay more taxes, or not?”

It has not made it out of the Education committee yet, and the legislature, officially, ends in about two weeks. I doubt it will pass both houses by that time.

Right now, once the legislature ends, the Governor can call for a special session. But the caveat is with a special session, the governor get to direct what that special session sould include and will last about three or four weeks, generally.

Unlike most states, the Texas Legislature meets every other year, from January to May to pass bills with the first 60 days of barring the legislative body from passing any bill. It is said that 90% to 95% of all bills do not make it pass one or both branches unless there is a consensus with urgency, like Property Tax Relief and School Choice that the governor wants, for instance.

Just lol if you think Florida could make more money out of that land using it for anything else. Conservatives really have become delusional.

Which was what percent net profit and return on investment? How did that compare to pre-COVID numbers?
