I'm not willing to put my living or dying in the hands of paid government employees.

This didn't have to be a life or death situation.

 

Could have. Could have ended with him still dead.

 

You don't know what the aggressors were capable of or intent on doing.

In any case it WAS a life or death situation, and my position to your comment stands.

I'm not prepared to put that determination in the government's hands.

 

Nobody wants to get into a gun fight. See the odds are in your favor when you grab a bunch of guys to go beat up 1 guy. But if that 1 guy is armed, even if you are armed you run a high risk of dying yourself.

Hence why it demotivates would be attackers.

 

One thing is empirical. Zero gun and he's dead. But you're right... He could have still died. Or lived and sent some less than desirables to another plain!

 

As far as we know? Low bar. There is no evidence that any of the assailants were armed, and any historical fiction that the guy would have made it if he was armed comes with the equally valid fiction that the assailants would all be armed, and in that scenario things get worse fast.

 

But again.. The gun can be the equalizer. A 230lb man, going against a 98lb women is a less than idea situation for the 98lb women. Give that women a firearm, the 230lb man now is at a disadvantage. If both have weapons, it's all dependent on who has the most training and is calmer is the situation. A person who trains well, can easily take out 5 fully armed thugs with zero arms training.

Guys like this tend to lose gun battles against a trained marksman.

 

Definitely can't be negative about the people that did the beating.

I spoke negatively about a woman who apparently stood there and watched people murder the man who was acting as a father to her child, rather than taking the very incredibly reasonable action of arming herself and seeing them off.

Sure, sure, and adults that use reason and logic wouldn't use their son's L as a reason to posse up and beat a man to death. Expecting random folk to not only be armed but highly trained with expensive to operate equipment isn't a viable solution in this scenario. Could it have helped? Sure, but again, as soon as you start thinking "if only the good guy had x y or z", you have to accept that the bad guys *could also* have x y or z.
At that point the intelligent start to wonder *why* the posse took the actions of children and escalated to this point in the first place and focus on reducing that. But, then you are in "systemic" territory and a lot of folk refuse to look into that.

Then maybe the dead man wouldn't have felt it a good idea to step out and have a chat with the trash who had shown up to mob beat a teenager.
Maybe he would've stayed inside and called the cops. Maybe if they'd tried to force the door he'd have had the advantage given they can only come in one at a time.
