    Ukraine Conflict Updates
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, June 7, 2023

Click here to read the full report
    Key Takeaways

    • The destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) dam is significantly changing the geography and topography of the Kherson frontline sector in southern Ukraine.
    • Ukrainian officials continued to accuse Russian forces of destroying the KHPP dam out of fear that Ukrainian forces would land on the east (left) bank Kherson Oblast.
    • The New York Times (NYT) reported that engineering and munitions experts believe that a deliberate explosion was the likely cause of KHPP dam’s collapse on June 6.
    • Russian forces and occupation authorities are responding to the flooding in Kherson Oblast with a great degree of disorganization and thereby exacerbating harm to the civilian population of occupied areas.
    • Select Wagner Group-affiliated Russian senior military officers continue to posture as effective commanders to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin by capitalizing on high-profile military events.
    • The pro-Teplinsky interview is likely part of an information operation aimed at undermining the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD).
    • Wagner-affiliated commanders’ reactive public relations campaigns may not be sufficient to deflect from battlefield realities.
    • Russian and Ukrainian officials each accused the other state of damaging an ammonia pipeline that runs through Kharkiv Oblast and causing an ammonia leak.
    • Russian forces continued to conduct ground attacks around Kreminna.
    • Ukrainian officials indicated that Ukrainian forces are conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut direction as of June 7.
    • Russian forces continued limited ground attacks along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line.
    • Russian sources continued to claim that Ukrainian forces conducted ground attacks on the administrative border between Donetsk and Zaporizhia oblasts on June 7.
    • Russian and Ukrainian forces reportedly engaged in skirmishes in western Zaporizhia Oblast.
    • Russian authorities continue to restrict international travel for those eligible for military service.
    • Russian officials and occupation authorities continue to establish patronage programs between Russian regions and occupied territories in order to integrate occupied territories into Russia. . . . .
Ukrainian officials indicated that Ukrainian forces are conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut direction as of June 7. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar stated on June 7 that Ukrainian forces near Bakhmut have transferred from defensive to offensive operations and have advanced from 200 to 1,000m in various unspecified areas over the past day.[38] Malyar also noted that Russian forces are deploying reserves to Bakhmut to prepare to conduct a defense-in-depth and that some Wagner elements are remaining in the Russian rear.[39] Ukrainian Eastern Group of Forces Commander Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian forces are advancing on the flanks of Bakhmut and that Russian forces are losing certain unspecified positions.[40] Russian milbloggers claimed that Ukrainian troops are conducting counterattacks southwest of Bakhmut near Klishchiivka (6km southwest), northwest of Bakhmut near Orikhovo-Vasylivka (10km northwest) and in the Berkhivka area (6km northwest), and northeast of Bakhmut near Yakovlivka (15km northeast).[41] The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) claimed that Russian troops repelled Ukrainian attacks on several settlements on the outskirts of Bakhmut.[42] The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensive operations towards Klishchiivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Ivanivske (5km southwest of Bakhmut), and Pivnichne (20km southwest of Bakhmut).[43] . . . .

Russian milbloggers criticized the Russian MoD for falsely claiming that Russian troops destroyed a Leopard tank in Ukraine. The Russian MoD posted footage June 6 that claims to show a Russian strike destroying a Leopard tank.[68] Russian milbloggers were quick to notice, however, that closer examination of the footage shows that the object resembles a piece of agricultural equipment and suggested that Russian forces actually destroyed a John Deere tractor.[69] Several Russian milbloggers criticized the MoD for posting the footage and urged Russian military authorities to vet their public posts more carefully.[70] Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin sardonically congratulated the Russian MoD for a “job well done” in reference to the tractor.[71] . . . .

There are reports that the first Leo II seems to have been destroyed/damaged (not sure yet) near Novoprokopivka as a result of artillery fire....which seems to suggest an axis of attack

    upload_2023-6-8_21-11-33.png

which is roughly 7Km into "Russian" controlled land...

And this apparently is a column of Leo II and Bradley's...taken in the area

    upload_2023-6-8_21-14-46.png

......which if true...and I stress IF.....then this is just so fuking stupid having them bunched up like this on an open road....I mean it's beyond madness if the Uke's are operating their new kit like this.

So the sources these come from are regarded as pretty reliable but not corroborated as yet.
    Let's see.

...so the short video shows lot of static armour bunched together with no cover.....dammmmn.....have these idiots learned nothing......!!!!! But as someone said this was always going to happen, which doesn't make it any less tragic.
Although the chatter is that the vehicle isn't lost. The bustle ammopod has ruptured as designed apparently.

Also, there are several Russian sources reporting a dramatic increase in fire and assault on their positions tonight in Zaporizhzhia direction. They say tanks are attacking their positions and shelling is non-stop:

    Oryx has it as destroyed.......:(

    upload_2023-6-8_21-58-2.png

This is, when all is said and done, amateur hour warfare. Two armies of under-trained civvies with an eager but patchy officer class and short on people who really grasp NATO-like tactics or have the authority to have them applied at battalion level....and with training measured in weeks.....they'll get the hang of it!

They are brave....they've been given NATO kit but they're not NATO troops so I'm going to stop bitching.........I'm just relieved their enemy is even more cack-handed.

This supposetly a Russian drone video, it has been cut and stitched together many times. I give a fake. The tank hit could be anything, the video is to fuzzy. Considering that it comes from a Russian Telegram channel, I do not give it much credit.

There will be loses on the part of Ukrainians that is a fact of war. What is odd is that Ukrainians have laughed at Russian commanders who did what it alleged the Ukrainians did in this video.

I looked at the video a few times after my last post last night. Could go righter way.
Still as I said Ukrainians will take some loses and they said they have encountered stiff resistance.

    Ukraine Conflict Updates
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, June 8, 2023

Click here to read the full report
    Key Takeaways

    • Ukraine has conducted counteroffensive operations with differential outcomes in at least three sectors of the front as part of wider counteroffensive efforts that have been unfolding since Sunday, June 4.
    • Ukrainian forces conducted a limited but still significant attack in western Zaporizhia Oblast on the night of June 7 to 8. Russian forces apparently defended against this attack in a doctrinally sound manner and had reportedly regained their initial positions as of June 8.
    • The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) responded to the Ukrainian attack with an uncharacteristic degree of coherency and praised Southern Military District elements for repelling the attack and regaining lost positions.
    • Russian sources provided explanations for claimed Russian successes during the June 8 attacks, praising Russian forces’ effective use of electronic warfare (EW) systems, air support, and landmines against Ukrainian forces.
    • Russian forces appear to have executed their formal tactical defensive doctrine in response to the Ukrainian attacks southwest of Orikhiv.
    • Ukrainian attacks in western Zaporizhia on June 8 do not represent the full extent of Ukrainian capabilities in the current counteroffensive.
    • It is additionally noteworthy that the Russian Southern Military District Forces deployed in this particular area are likely to be a higher quality force grouping than Russia has elsewhere in theater, and their defensive performance is unlikely to be reflective of defensive capabilities of Russian groupings elsewhere on the front.
    • Russian forces and occupation authorities continue to exacerbate the humanitarian ramifications of the flooding resulting from the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) dam break.
    • Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly postponed his annual press conference from June 2023 until November or December 2023.
    • Russian forces continued to conduct limited ground attacks on the Kupyansk-Svatove line and around Kreminna.
    • Ukrainian forces made limited gains around Bakhmut, and Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line.
    • Ukrainian forces continued to conduct limited ground attacks on the administrative border between Donetsk and Zaporizhia oblasts.
    • The Russian MoD continues to posture itself as a firm authority over the defense industrial base (DIB) through emphasizing its ability to transport new equipment to the front.
    • Russian occupation authorities are reportedly resorting to punitive measures against civilian populations in occupied Ukraine due to Russian occupation authorities’ decreasing influence over civilians. . . . .
Ukrainian forces continue to strike rear areas in occupied Luhansk Oblast. Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR) Head Leonid Pasechnik claimed on June 8 that Ukrainian forces struck Luhansk City, and geolocated footage shows a large smoke plume rising from the city.[32] . . . .

Ukrainian forces made limited gains around Bakhmut on June 8. Geolocated footage published on June 7 indicates that Ukrainian forces made limited advances near Berkhivka (6km northwest of Bakhmut).[33] Ukrainian and Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces made advances 1.8km wide and 1.2km deep along the western bank of the Siverskyi Donetsk Canal west of Andriivka (10km southwest of Bakhmut) and forced elements of the Russian 57th Motorized Infantry Brigade (5th Combined Arms Army, Eastern Military District) and convict servicemen of the “Storm-Z” unit out of their positions.[34] The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Orikhovo-Vasylivka (11km northwest of Bakhmut), Ivanivske (6km west of Bakhmut), and Pivnichne (20km southwest of Bakhmut).[35] Ukrainian Ground Forces Commander Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian forces are advancing in the Bakhmut direction.[36] Ukrainian Eastern Group of Forces Spokesperson Colonel Serhiy Cherevaty also stated at least 81,000 Wagner servicemen have been killed or wounded in the fighting around Bakhmut since July 2022.[37] . . . .

Ukrainian forces continued to conduct limited ground attacks on the administrative border between Donetsk and Zaporizhia oblasts on June 8. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar stated that fighting in the Velyka Novosilka direction continues.[42] Ukrainian Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi stated that Ukrainian offensive operations in southern Ukraine are successful and that Russian forces are on the defensive.[43] The Russian Eastern Group of Forces (Eastern Military District) Spokesperson Oleg Chekhov claimed that Russian forces conducted air and artillery strikes against attacking Ukrainian forces in western Donetsk Oblast and against rear positions near Vremivka (immediately west of Velyka Novosilka) and Novodonetske (11km southeast of Velyka Novosilka).[44] Geolocated footage shows that Ukrainian forces struck Russian howitzer positions east of Staromlynivka (14km south of Velyka Novosilka) and destroyed a TOS-1A thermobaric artillery system just north of Zavitne Bazhannia (12km south of Velyka Novosilka).[45]

Ukrainian forces continue to strike rear areas of occupied southern Zaporizhia Oblast. Russian and Ukrainian officials reported that Ukrainian forces struck Tokmak on June 7 and 8.[46] Russian and Ukrainian sources also reported explosions in Berdyansk on June 8, and geolocated footage shows a large smoke plume rising in the city.[47]

Flooding from the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) dam has reportedly forced Russian forces to withdraw further to rear areas in eastern Kherson Oblast and inflicted some manpower and equipment losses. . . . .

Decreasing water levels in the Kakhovka Reservoir do not currently threaten the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP)’s cooling operations as of June 8.[53] . . . .

Every dog gets one free bite.
What I have read is that the tank was destroyed by indirect artillery fire. That is rare, and only happens with a lucky direct hit. If the tanks were moving in coordination with infantry scouts/flankers and drone coverage then I'm not sure there's really a problem. Time will tell.

the destruction of the tank is not my beef its the way the force was commanded and the lack of thought in the way it was moved.

I am not defending that tactic. As I said in an earlier post the Ukes laughed at Russian commanders who have done the same thing with bad results for them( Russians). If that Uke commander blames it on bad Intel then he is at fault for not getting his Intel verified. These mistakes need to be corrected and fast. I also have been saying all along that the Ukrainians better not underestimate their enemy.
