does florida consider divorced women to be "woke?" defunding this demographic should do wonders for their divorce rate and numbers of those precious 2 parent families. is this the kind of law hat is good for florida, or only the class of "elite" men who serve in florida legislature and who must be seen with successively younger women? ‘This is a death sentence for me’: Florida Republican women say they will switch parties after DeSantis approves alimony law | Florida News | Orlando | Orlando Weekly
Children of divorced mothers tend to suffer more abuse. So promoting divorce is promoting child abuse.
There is something wrong with DeSanctimonious....Crooked Donnie's base will vanquish his fascist wannabee arse and then Trump will get pardoned during Bidenomics' second term. The radical RW can posture all they want, they will lose again with Trump.
i am not so sure. their propaganda network seems highly effective on the kind of mind that considers "serial monogamy" to be god's plan.
The Trump Party has shrunk to just the extremists....fear not the dying gasps of those on the way out. Gen Z will put them out of their misery and SCOTUS will have to go full obvious partisan to stop that. ETTD, don't doubt it but be prepared to strangle it regardless. The economy is the lynch pin and Joe's smoking it. The media are just creating drama.
I forget that alimony still exists. Its supposed to be transitional. I don't know anyone who gets alimony. People are expected to earn their own living, not sponge off an 20 year old divorce decree. Society cannot afford to have divorcees sitting around their apartments while their other(ex) half works until their 80.
I'm sure if the op was someone paying permanent alimony he would probably think that it was a good law. But since bad Florida man...
A law that stops your ex-wife (or husband) from taking you to the cleaners, causing you to have work two shifts and eating baloney sammiches? I'm all for it!
Considering that Florida was one of only seven states that have permanent alimony, making a big deal about ending the practice is much ado about nothing.
Once the core Trump "supporter" can get beyond the butthurt and acknowledge economic reality in full context, yes. Good luck to all core Trump support.
Why has it taken Florida so long to get its head out of its ass regarding alimony? There should never be permanent alimony. Of course there should be a limit. I just assumed ever state was already doing this.
It's just part of DeSantis' weird strategy to become President by getting more and more people to hate him. And... you know... .they voted for Trump. So in the Republican Party, ANYTHING could work. You never know... maybe there are still enough fascist bikers and religious zealots in this country to push him to the presidency.
I do not agree with alimony laws, a woman becomes accustomed to a mans money in the same way a man becomes accustomed to having sex with a woman, neither should be guaranteed after divorce
The point of alimony is that if a woman gave up her career to be a housewife/homemaker (which is a job) then they get some financial assistance while getting back into the workforce until they get some stability. This should never last more than one year TOPS! I can't believe permanent alimony is even a thing. Screwed for life because of a "break up"? NOT COOL. GOOD RIDDANCE. Women are equal right? STOP MOOCHING!
By the way, just a little plug for that video above. If you do not know the Stephen Sondheim song, satirizing the empty vapid lives of the wealthy wife or divorcee in urban America, its time to give it a listen and this is the woman to perform it . I hesitate to employ any verb form of 'to sing' in relation to Elaine, but a more impeccable and nuanced interpreter of Sondheim's work does not exist
Alimony should be temporary and ONLY if a woman has truly sacrificed a career. If the woman never pursued a career and can’t prove she wanted to, then the man shouldn’t owe anything!! The only thing discussed during a divorce should be splitting of assets IF both parties actually contributed equally and child support. If a woman barely contributes financially to the marriage and if there are no children, she should leave with whatever proportion she brought in. If that was very little than that’s all she should leave with.
I think you are too harsh here. First we get rid of the idea that women are the only people entitled to alimony. Spousal support recognises that that there has been financial contribution and benefits to one partner staying home, even if there is not a paycheck. Decades of child care, maid service, cooking are in fact services and skill sets that have value and they do not cease to have value, if performed as marital duties. It will lead to an economic dependency and that leads to inequality if one partner has stayed out of the job market to ensure the other gets to concentrate on education and career. but it does have to be transitional. the idea is for the receiver of spousal support to get skills, education and a job.
