    For starters, her "reason" is irrelevant (even if true), so I am not sure why you are implying they should have investigated it. On top of that, it sounds like unmitigated BS, aimed at just trying to garner sympathy because her mother died.

    I am all for changing the rules in the future. You will not get an argument from me on that.

    If it was an eating contest, maybe. Perhaps they can change the rules in the middle of the game so she can still win!

    Not many folks I've spoken to about this have her back here. Does it really matter in the scheme of things though? I don't think I'll feel slighted if the US doesn't get a sweep.

    For the same reason I can head to the store and load up my truck with 4 kegs of beer and a case of whiskey and go drive circles around the sheriffs department waving at them. But if there's a half pound of weed on me then I get arrested because somehow I now have the intent to distribute a controlled substance that the government has arbitrarily deemed illegal because they said so.

    650+lbs of booze = No problem!
    1/2 pound of weed = step out of the car please you're going to jail

    We live in a stupid society that's why. Society is created by humans, humans are creatures of emotion, we often make our laws based on emotion and not logic. Organizations tend to mirror their policies after society's irrational logic.

    They are far more than JUST games and the Olympic committee sets the rules and standards that apply to ALL athletes who compete. She has no excuse and hopefully will accept the consequences and not try to go to court somewhere claiming she should be treated special and above the rules she knew existed.

    And everyone can get to together and file a petition voicing that opinion but as for now pot is one of many drugs still considered illegal in most places and every athlete knew it was on the list and they would be tested. I used to have to get test to get entry badges at some plants I called on. I knew the consequences it I tested positive on such a test, no entry and could cost me my job.

    Times are changing and everyone is free to submit a request for a rule change for the future, I will note an article I read recently about in states where employers are having to adjust their policies.
    Same reason I can't where I live?
