In a lot of ways yes from yesteryear. Things are complicated because the world is complicated. Always has been.

Boehner, Ryan, and now McCarthy have all been vanquished by the Crazy. Sometimes we forget how long it has been around.

Congress doesn't "govern". It legislates, i.e. it makes laws.

Actually that’s not true any longer. We definitely used to. I remember when there were many small businesses and manufacturers, were the owner sat in an office above the sales or shop floor. He knew his employees and their families; people mattered to each other. Downtown’s had a variety of different businesses that knew and valued their customers and took pride in waiting on them. Their was ha huge variety of products to choose from. They deposit their receipts in local banks were the money was pumped back into the local economy.

Now it’s all multinational corporations with a few retailers that are stamped out copies every 10 miles. They all sell the same crap that’s poorly made overseas. And god help you if you need waited on. Profits go directly to some too large to fail bank never to be seen locally again.

That’s what deregulation and smaller government has bought us. Little choice, little local involvement and fewer jobs with good pay and benefits.

He says while addressing a small businessman who knows all kinds of other small businessmen. I can't help but wonder what deregulation you are talking about that affects small businesses because I certainly missed it. I wonder why you don't know that small businesses employ more people than large corporations do. Sorry but our economy and overall success still exist despite federal government, not because of it.

And why would they want that? They could have governed based on what was best for the Congress and the country. They choose not to while the Reps by overwhelming majority did.

What is best for the House, Congress, and the country right now is Jeffries as Speaker.

The Republicans can vote for him if there is ever a floor vote before the next election.

Your comment does not provide a counter argument to my comment.

I'm not on the fringe, sorry to disappoint.

There is such a thing as a unnecessary tax cut to the super rich.

    Are you super rich?

If so, what the hell are you doing here?

Take a look at the graph. Figure 1. The Tax Receipts from Capitol Gains went up significantly after 2018. They do not show the Income Tax Revenue which also went up.

The source was the White House. Not exactly a nonbiased source.

The problem was not revenue. The problem was spending.

Wrong. The following activities collectively contribute (in addition to the exec branch) to the governance of the nation:

    1. Legislation: The primary function of Congress is to pass laws. These laws can address a wide range of issues, from regulating interstate commerce to establishing federal crime penalties.

    2. Representation: Members of Congress represent the people of their districts or states. They advocate for their constituents’ interests and concerns.

    3. Oversight: Congress has the responsibility to oversee the executive branch and its agencies to ensure they are carrying out the laws as intended.

    4. Budgeting and Appropriations: Congress has the power of the purse. It creates the federal budget and decides how federal funds should be spent.

    5. Advise and Consent: The Senate has the power to advise and consent on treaties and on nominations made by the President, including judicial appointments.

    6. Impeachment: Congress has the power to impeach and remove federal officials, including the President, for “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors”.

    7. Investigation: Congress can conduct investigations on matters of public concern, which can lead to new legislation or provide a basis for impeachment.

Not entirely true. They are supposed to create the federal budget and decide how federal funds should be spent based on approval of the senate and executive branch.

Congress is the legislative branch of the US government. Legislative means making laws.

Since you no that he is NOT going to get it since his party is not in the majority why do you keep throwing him out and not addressing what I asked.

Why didn't the Dems do what was best for the country and not vote to remove a SOTH and remarkable act by the House especially when the minority party votes are what drove as they align with the radicals in the other party.

The “small businessman” ignores every point I made, because they’re true. You could have been born post Reagan and still be a “small businessman”. Which would mean you have no idea of the cornucopia of products that used to be on the shelves of an exponentially greater number of locally owned stores that actually provided service to their customers. You would have no idea of what locally owned banking was like, when the president of the bank might greet you and deal with your business personally. Before banks we too big to fail.

Small unresponsive government isn’t and will never be a substitute for the service oriented government I grew up with.

What MAGrateAs don’t realize and no experience to understand is what they are “againing” about is the days before Reagan/Freedman gutted the government Of and For The People and made it a government BY and For the privileged few.

I was born 2 weeks after D day. I do agree that society and culture were better in the 50's and 60's but that had nothing to do with government either. The problem with small businesses today is the internet. It is replacing many brick and mortar operations. My business operates on the internet. It is still a small business. I once owned a brick and mortar retail store. I wouldn't do that today. You seem to have forgotten that government was much smaller in the bygone days you miss. I don't understand your position at all. Sorry.

If you were white. The 50’s and 60’s road the wave of prosperity and patriotism War 2 created. The U.S. was the world’s manufacturer backed by the greatest military the world has ever known to ensure peaceful trading. And the social safety net created by the New Deal was firmly in place. So, yes our government that was respected and depended on had a LOT to do with the peace and prosperity of the era you’re “AGAINING” about.
The diverse and abundant small business that greatly contributed to American prosperity was killed, by globalization, when the internet was in its infancy and before online commerce was even a thing.
I’m fully aware of the growth of government, but “I” factor in the growth of our population. It’s not reasonable to think the same size government can serve a population that has nearly doubled in size. And, if you want to go by budget, the dollar was worth 10.5 times what it is today. We have much smaller government to day serving a select few instead of ALL Americans.
. No, I don’t suppose you do; because you keep tweaking it to something different than what I’ve said or changing to something else entirely.
I don’t think you really are, but you should be.

I did answer your question. And by your own logic, the Republicans are NOT going to do what is best for the country by voting Jeffries in. Instead, they have caved to the radicals in their own party. And now we’re back to the original premise of this thread: Republicans don’t know how to govern.

That's not quite accurate, at least not in a strict reading of how you wrote it. Perhaps you are being sloppy, and we actually agree, but in case you meant precisely what you wrote, then the following qualifies your statement, and, indeed, is the accurate state of affairs regarding the budget process:

While it’s true that the Senate and Executive branch play roles in the budgeting process, it’s not accurate to say that Congress is “supposed” to create the budget based on their approval. Rather, the budgeting process is a collaborative effort between all three branches of government, with Congress holding the primary responsibility for drafting and passing budget legislation. The President proposes a budget, but it’s up to Congress to pass appropriations bills to fund the government. The Senate reviews and amends these bills, but does not have final say over them. Once both houses of Congress agree on a budget, it’s sent to the President for approval. So while there are checks and balances in place, the power of the purse primarily resides with Congress (hence the aphorism 'Congress has the power of the purse' which wasn't made up for nothing).
