Maybe this shows that people (including Republicans) are done kowtowing to the high-school thugocrasy wing of the GOP and their influence is on the wane? If I was their principal, I'd put all of those (er) gentleman on permanent detention.

It's telling that Gymbo got far less votes when put up in a private session. Shows you what a lot of Repubs were really thinking all along. I'm glad they stood their ground on this one.

Now perhaps we can start to get back to some kind of consensus government?

    Death threats?

Cranky phone calls from (so called) news anchors?

Who wants to be dealing with that?

Not me, for one. It's just exhausting for exhaustion's sake.

I think thats a good take. I think the MAGA wing of the party is in their last days in Congress. Gym Jordan 100% represents that. And when the vote is taken in private more of them voted against the MAGA crowd, and thats just everything you need to know.

The real conservatives are speaking up now, and not being politicians to get votes when they do this in private. The MAGA faction wont be gone tomorrow, but they will be gone soon. Not only is Trumpsim waining on the country, its is very much waining on the party itself. The radical arm of the Republican Party (MAGA) is seeing that the voters are getting tired of Trump also. There are still MAGAs in the Republican Party, but their support is slowing as they see public support for Trump dropping. And now that the trials are starting, and the real facts come out, its going to be hard for real conservatives to continue to support MAGA as MAGA becomes more about the man, and not the people.

Now that they have DROPPED Jordan as the Nominee...
    The question becomes Who's Next?
Minority Whip Tom Emmer has been mentioned, and received McCarthy's endorsement...
McCarthy had failed to endorse previously...

Jordan out as speaker candidate in secret ballot after top ally warned death threats "will continue"
    Tatyana Tandanpolie
Fri, October 20, 2023 at 1:36 PM CDT

    ...

Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., became the latest member of Congress to report he got death threats in connection with his refusal to support Jordan's effort, The Hill reports. Buck, who voted for Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn. in all three ballots this week, told NBC Thursday that his office received four death threats out of the 20,000 phone calls his team had fielded. He also noted that he lost office space over his stance.

“I’ve been evicted from my office in Colorado. I have notice of an eviction because the landlord is mad with my voting record on the Speaker issue,” Buck told the outlet. “And everybody in the conference is getting this. Family members have been approached and threatened. All kinds of things are going on. There’s going to be some tension.”

Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa; Drew Ferguson, R-Ga.; and Don Bacon, R-Neb. also reported being threatened for not backing the Ohio Republican.

    ... https://news.yahoo.com/jordan-speaker-candidate-secret-ballot-183630596.html

Why are these trumpist conservatives so violent? Is it because Trump keeps signalling to them that they should be?

It has always been amusing that an invasive species that has only infested the GOP since 2016, the RINOs of Trumpery, try to label traditional, conservative Republicans as the Party's interlopers.

Their marathon exhibition of impotence continues:

The Republicans in their House of Ill Repute will hold a candidate forum Monday at 6:30 p.m., and a secret ballot election for a new Speaker nominee on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The deadline to declare a candidacy for Speaker is noon Sunday.

Kevin Hern (R-Okla), Tom Emmer (R-Minn), and Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) are among their prospective lambs for slaughter, as George Santos (aka Anthony Devolder, Kitara Ravache, etc.) continues to move up the list.

And there you have it in a nutshell. Buck, a reliable conservative legislator, is kicked out of his office over a vote disagreement.

It's the thug mentality that has taken over MAGA at every level. Why not just have an animated disagreement and keep the man's business?

This is just a highway to hell.

MAGA is in the middle of a high-school food fight; chucking pudding at each other.

Ron DeSantis rues the day he ever left congress because, if he was still there, at least he'd stand a chance of catching some.

They've been turning reality on its head as completely and easily as Russia's propagandists, and we know for a fact that the Russians invest heavily in influencing and radicalizing westerners in order to create just this kind of social and political dysfunction. I saw the first signs of this crop up in the Obama years, though did not realize what it was (i.e. where it was originating) at the time. That radicalization process led us to Trump, who otherwise would not have had an outspoken honest man's chance in the Kremlin of winning the nomination, let alone the general election.

House Republicans are making Little Vlady giddy.

His promoting Trump in 2020 certainly paid off for him, undermining American democracy, and now rendering one branch of the federal government impotent.

I believe it starts even earlier, especially when Obama ran for office. The birth certificate, gun confiscation, 401k confiscation, conservative concentration camps, would declare martial law and stay on as POTUS, giving legal control of the US to the UN, was just of the 1000s of stupid conspiracies from idiots like Alex Jones and even Rush Limbaugh.

Culminated into the stolen election stupidity. Those RW news outlets know they are lies, but anything for viewers and ad dollars. Facebook was the same for the 2016 election.

Why? Do you think that when Dems send out Hakeem that he's remotely acceptable to anyone in the republican party?

Rightwing MISOGYNY will ensure that she is nothing more than a puppet.

In order to be Speaker qualities like Leadership, Compromise and Intelligence are essential prerequisites.

NONE of the next batch of gormless twatwaffles vying for the job meet those criteria.

At this stage there is the Goon Squad and the Rest of the Rabble.

NONE of them are WILLING or ABLE to lead, compromise or think of a solution to their SELF INFLICTED chaos.

The SCARY part is this is a RERUN of what happened in Congress immediately PRIOR to the Civil War.

The RACIST Southerners were INCAPABLE of compromising or finding a PEACEFUL solution to their self inflicted dilemma so they threw a HISSYFIT and attempted to ILLEGALLY secede from the Union.

We all know how BADLY that worked out for the racist Southerners.

They are priming themselves for a DO-OVER and given their INABILITY to reach consensus on whether to order muffins or donuts for the next meeting it will be a similar CHAOTIC FIASCO.

My concern is for those who will be caught in the crossfire, LITERALLY.

Interesting that the Civil War was all ABOUT someone like Hakeem Jeffries having the OPPORTUNITY to become Speaker.

Seems like the Goon Squad is stuck on the same RACIST stupidity that CAUSED the Civil War because the CONCEPT of a POC becoming Speaker is BEYOND their comprehension.

    Just what the GOP needs.
Another right-wing extremest who's a Trump and George Santos devotee.

Though it wouldn't be surprising if Trump chose her as his VP.

I don't get why voters are getting involved in the speaker race. It us about as "inside baseball" as you can get. I'll bet ten percent of you have any idea what the SOTH does:
    Warning: Boring as bleep.

With no speaker, no bills are moving. For the moment America and its taxpayers are safe!

Dems are not whining that pubs did not 'save' Jeffries and instead worked to shut down the House. And posters like you are not making absurd statements about the duty of Republican Congressmen to vote for Jeffries to pass spending bills. If Republicans want Dem help voting in a new Speaker over the objections of the lawless 8, then they have to come up with a Speaker Dems can stomach.

This is 100% a Republican responsibility, and it is 100% a responsibility they have butchered.

For those who think the GOP has moved past same sex marriage

Republican Rep. Rick Allen told CNN's Manu Raju he would not vote for Rep. Tom Emmer on the House floor, saying he’s “very concerned” about Emmer’s vote to codify same-sex marriage in the last Congress.

“No,” he said when asked if there was any way he would vote for him.
