No shet - I’m experiencing some dejavu. But, Trump did as president, and still does, have our Nations best interests in mind concerning the matter with keeping our options open rather than be dictated by any group or organization.

It is a silly notion that the US spends more on "defense" compared to the next 10 biggest nations combined because of the goodness of our heart and our desire to protect our allies.

No, the reason the US spends so much on "defense" is to project power across the globe (to support the petro sollar) and to be a superpower. None of our allies are forcing us to spend that much on the military, it is entirely voluntary. Forcing other NATO members to match our spending will do nothing about US overspending on the military. The first step would be to take the profit motive out if it....

He has said that before, but no one takes him seriously anymore. In 2014 NATO members pledged to hit the 2% target by EOY 2024 and many are already spending more than that, especially now that Russo-Ukraine war rages on next door.

That's pretty much the whole idea behind the alliance. With Finland ans Sweden joining, NATO is stronger than ever, and it seems to upset him.

He might not even understand his value to them, but yes, he is their asset whether or not he realizes it. Russia will do everything in their power to get him elected

You mean this: ""From now on, we will invest more than 2% of the GDP into our defence year after year,""

We don't pay for NATO. If you think we need to curt military spending, just say so. We spend over 3% because we want to, not because of NATO. Without NATO, we would have to increase spending, not decrease it (unless we want to decrease capabilities)

You do not understand how NATO works.

    True
Trump leaves office and Russia invades, and now Hamas attacks but hey, it's gotta be the guy's fault who isn't even in government now.

Actually they are more like our welfare culture, only far more expensive when the get picked on.

If the club was worth a crap we wouldn't be seeing a Russian invasion or an attack on Isreal.. even then, the conflict(s) wouldn’t last as long as it has, ie Russia..

What is your opinion? Should we leave NATO if other countries dont hit their spend targets?

Amazing that those who belong to what was once Ronald Reagan's Party are the least informed about what NATO is and what it's for.

If Reagan were alive, he'd be out campaigning for Biden right now... And you guys would be attacking him for being a RINO.

Do you understand that (further) destabilizing the globe in NOT in our nations interest? It's hilarious (in a sad way) that people believe trump thinks more than 2 steps ahead.

America doesn't threaten her allies, America threatens her enemy. NATO members are America’s allies.

Unfortunately Trump and his supporter don’t even understand who are US allies and who are US enemy.

This is where Trump is genius. He convinced his supporter to believe anything he says regardless of whether it is true or not.

USA spend 3.5% of her GDP on defense. That spending will not reduce if USA leaves NATO. As a matter of fact, USA will have to spend more money in USA defense as soon as US leaves NATO. Why ? because today those NATO members (28 of them ) are US allies, the moment we leave NATO, those members may not be US enemy but they certainly will not be our allies. Keep in mind 2 of the NATO member is Nuclear Power who will no longer be US allies.

But you can’t put this “Basic diplomacy ” to MAGA head.
