“Taiwan is already worried about the durability of U.S. support to fortify the self-governing island from Chinese aggression. And the congressional retreat from funding Kyiv is a boon for Beijing’s efforts to sow doubt among Taiwan’s electorate about U.S. reliability ahead of the January presidential election”

“China is stoking those insecurities with a disinformation campaign aimed to undermine Taiwan’s public trust in both the U.S. and Taiwanese political parties seeking closer U.S. ties in the face of Chinese intimidation.”

“Beijing wants to convince Taiwanese voters “that the United States is not trustworthy, that the United States is not genuine in helping Taiwan, … that at the end, it’ll be Taiwan who suffers just like the Ukrainians who suffer from the Russian invasion”

“Defunding Ukraine’s defense “is a death sentence for Taiwan. … If Ukraine can beat Russia, China’s less likely to invade Taiwan,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)”

    https://www.politico.eu/newsletter/china-watcher/taiwan-shivers-over-ukraine-funding-freeze/

de Tocqueville authored centuries ago that the means to defeat America was to just wait them out, that eventually petty politics will end any commitment or guarantee they make to others

Is the current GOP House fulfilling de Tocqueville’s prediction? Is China watching and judging our real allegiance to Taiwan when they see us refusing to aid other allies due to politicians political ends? Does it send a signal that aggression is allowable?

    Facepalm.

As if Taiwan's voters will vote to rejoin China. Dream on! Why would they vote in favor of Chinese oppression and give up their freedom?

Not on topic, but anyways, it is generational, younger people don’t necessarily see the mainland as the evil oppressor their elders have in the past. Upcoming Presidential election has a strong anti China candidate and a more moderate choice

Returning to the point, you don’t think China is judging America’s real commitment to Taiwan when they see petty politicians using aid to another ally to score cheap media talking points? That Graham is correct, “defunding Ukraine’s defense “is a death sentence for Taiwan?”

Sadly, Taiwan has no choice. We are all they have, as unreliable as we are.

The issue is where is all of this Ukrainian defense spending money going? How much of it is going to crooks?

I am sick of these spending bills that combine Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine. They are different situations and deserve different examinations.

I don’t like Trump, but these claims that he is a Putin puppet is tied old bullshit. It’s been disproven repeatedly. Voters, other that diehard Democrats, should be done with this nonsense.

Building a wall on our border was "too expensive" even though it was just a mere pittance of the 100 billion we've given you Crane or more.

I guess now we're supposed to give a hundred billion to Taiwan as well?

Question: Congress can stop the funding, but they can’t stop Biden allocating assets that are already bought, correct?

In other words, Biden can’t send Ukraine cash but he can send them military hardware no problem.

    Is this correct?

The do, probably more, proven by the fact that they aren’t playing brinkmanship with promised aid to hold off aggression

Yea, I think somebody is getting blank checks, but it isn't the Ukrainians. Biden has put so many restrictions on the arms that the Ukrainians get, that they have not been able to fight the war to win. That's one reason why it has continued. Nobody talks about "bought out Joe" being in the tank with the Russians, but when your family takes a few million from the Mayor of Moscow, you know they want something in return.

Not true, overwhelming majority of the funds is spent in the US building armaments, and the US has limited some of the weapons the Ukraine requests because the last thing we want is the Ukraine to start shelling Moscow or Russian population centers.

Called a proxy war for a reason

And it called an endless and ultimately lost war for a reason. Biden has be consistently behind the curve from the beginning. Is it to prevent a wider war or to buy a debt to those who paid his family millions?

    NO, that's horseshit.

US taxpayers are paying for EVERY ukrainian government employee's salary, as well as their pensions. Every troops salary. Every parliament member's salary and pension. Basically all public employee's salaries. Without US money, their government doesn't function at all, aside from all the military hardware and software they are given.

It's long past time to cut that cancer off.

Yup we front them 50+ billion and they in turn buy weapons from us, then turn around sell them on the black market, while the U.S. claims Ukraine BOUGHT weapons and again front them billions.......... Rinse, repeat and the Americans are oblivios to reality ;)

It's obvious they care about the security of Ukraine far more than they care about our own damn borders

Oh, so American arms producers are making all those weapons for free?

You got to turn off the radio and get out more, a lot more
