Accused Florida pedophile could be first in state to be put to death due to ‘severity’ of child sex

So what do you folks think about the death penalty for child rapists? Florida has some pretty serious thoughts about it and the consequences of child rape in that state are very severe.

I know there are some people here who are anti death penalty no matter what the crime was, and I know there are some people here who think the death penalty is appropriate for certain crimes which usually involve the taking of a human life. So what about this case? Thumbs up or thumbs down? Right now I'm kinda in the middle and undecided, so here's your chance to convince me one way or another.

 

As far as I am concerned, harming a child in this way deserves the death penalty.
Pedophiles are the worse predators of humanity of which there is no cure.

 

My heart says yes, but I’m against govt executions on my dime. So I say just put them in gen pop….let the inmates earn their keep.

MG, it can be argued that the government isn't executing anyone, the people doing it are the 12 jurors. If you read the story the guy filmed himself raping a kid, so it's not like this one of those cases where maybe he didn't do it.

The judges are all over the map with sentencing for child molesters and that's a serious problem, like it depends on who did the molesting.
The laws need to also change to hold the pedo's enablers criminally accountable too.

I'm all for stiffer mandatory sentencing but nope to the death penalty.

all you have to do is read the book The Onion Field to understand why most law enforcement agents and prosecutors oppose the death penalty for cases where the victims are not killed.

It is based on a true story where two cops were taken hostage by a couple mopes. The mopes wrongly assumed they would get the death penalty based on the Lindberg baby law so they killed one of the cops. The other escaped.

I don't support the death penalty for most cases and I certainly oppose it for cases where the victim is not killed. And almost every federal prosecutor I know is on the same page-even those who fully support the DP for murder

Could be, depends on the case. I think in every case in which perpetrators use sadistic torture on innocent victims (in the context of this particular crime), the death penalty would be justice. Child rape - depending on the case - could fit to that because the rape of a child can induce extreme physical and psychological suffering on an innocent child.

However for the possibility of either power abuse or accidentally putting someone wrongly accused to death, I am against it. Asked if I find it justified, I would say yes, given a theoretical case of a barbaric child rape.

 

Yeah, I get it, I just don't agree with it.
Those committing these crimes aren't stopped by any laws.
Obviously different crimes need different punishments.
And it depends on the degree of the crime.
But for this OP, he should be put to death.
