    Democrats fume after Biden orders Yemen airstrikes without congressional approval: ‘Unacceptable violation of the Constitution’

    Several Democrats on Capitol Hill scolded President Biden on Thursday for launching airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen without congressional approval, arguing that the action was unconstitutional.

    “The President needs to come to Congress before launching a strike against the Houthis in Yemen and involving us in another middle east [sic] conflict,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) tweeted. “That is Article I of the Constitution. I will stand up for that regardless of whether a Democrat or Republican is in the White House.”

    Biden condemns trump for same thing he later decides to do. Not too surprising. Just another flip / flop from Crooked Joe.

    I agree with the Democrats. We have a balance of power and 3 branches of government for a reason.

    Aside from the Biden flip flop, I think I will have to agree with Biden here on the decision. I can give a Good job, Biden! for this one.

    No POTUS wants to go to this dysfunctional branch of government for a one-and-done attack required in a timely manner.

    If you go to Congress with this request, Yemen could be more prepared to defend the attack

    This isn't a war declaration and Joe supported the repeal of the previous war authorizations

    Ro needs to take a chill pill here... he's probably a little frustrated with nothing to do in the House these days..

    Besides the Biden flip flop, I agree with your statement. I think Biden made the right choice.

    Blinken said some of the 2024 "magic words"

    SNIP
    Speaking to reporters in Bahrain on Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that continued Houthi attacks in the Red Sea could disrupt supply chains and in turn increase costs for everyday goods. The Houthis’ attacks have affected ships tied to more than 40 countries, he said.

    And we know who's ultimately behind this....Russia, China, Iran all want their "transactional boy" back in the WH and the Biden Admin gone along with NATO, with continued chaos in America.

    For once I think Biden did what needed to be done, what I blame him for is letting this thing this far.

    Regarding congressional approval, I’ll bet if he did go to them that witch Tlaib would have notified Yemen so they could prepare.

    I'm not sure if scotus ever weighed in, but Biden's actions are completely normal for how presidents handle this kind of thing. On the fly urgent actions need to be handled by the executive - that's the main purpose of having one person in charge. For more drawn out engagements, Congress can say you have to pull back, but this does not negate the need for being able to take decisive action before congress can act.

    This requirement is for declaring war on an enemy. Biden acted as CinC to take action to protect US citizens and property (amongst others). Seems like requiring Congressional approval before firing to protect US property and people would be the most idiotic idea imaginable; not surprising it came from a Democrat.
    z
    Oh, BTW, the War Powers act only requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours after he has initiated battle.

    A strange time to get mad about something that has been done since WWII by Presidents of both parties. Even now we’ve been bombing in Syria, but it’s acting in defense of the worlds greatest shipping choke point against know-nothing worthless pirates that has them bent out of shape?

    very strange indeed

    Al the anti-American members of Congress - especially the non-white ones - specialize in being content when the US is attacked.

    Yes, and Biden couldn't claim he had to keep the mission hush hush. He telegraphed the heck out of it. I think they should be asking Congress to O.K. a mission directly at Iran and notify that country we are all in. These proxies are just symptoms of Iran. We have heard in the past "Iran will never be permitted to have nuclear weapons". Well now is the time to do something about it.

    "Thomas Massie on X: "The United States has been involved in hostilities in Yemen, in one form or another, for over 5 years now. The sad reality is Congress frequently refuses to assert its authority. Twice under Paul Ryan, the War Powers Act w.r.t. Yemen was subverted through parliamentary tricks." / X (twitter.com)

    The mess in #Yemen started when #PresidentObama joined with #SaudiArabia to ethnically cleanse Yemen of the #Houthi.
    @realDonaldTrump
    continued with Obama Yemen policies and ditto for the #BidenAdministration. Nearly 400,000 in Yemen have been killed in this horror of a US funded genocide.

    Only Congress has the power to declare war. I have to give credit to
    @RepRoKhanna
    here for sticking to his principles, as very few are willing to make this statement while their party is in the White House.

    I'm glad there some members of congress who stand up to AIPAC. Most of them are chickenhawks .If Biden wasn't such a coward he would cut off EVERY dollar to Israel which we should never have given to them in the first place.

    I think these are one of those things that have to be done, and it's not unconstitutional. However I'm not giving Biden that much credit. Basically Blinken woke him up from nappy time to sign something, and then he got ice cream.

    A president has to have a certain amount of autonomy when it comes to reacting militarily to events around the world.

    Biden is right to launch strikes against the Hooties. He should have done it a month ago and I hope he uses maximum violence to destroy them in a minimum amount of time.
