Comedy gold. This MAGA BS about how the border is open.
When trump never shut down the border either. Because a president doesn't have that power. But under special circumstances.

And then this bill would allow some action and the MAGA members don't want it.

    Comedy gold I tell ya.

Not true (https://breakingdefense.com/2023/10...e-us-a-total-shutdown-would-be-irresponsible/), and it is hard to take serious a conservative talking debt when the last Administration set new records for debt and they didn’t say a word

European democracies are our traditional allies and you seem willing to flush them even as Putin threats, it is NATO forces that have, and currently are, supporting US forces in the Middle East, who support US diplomatic efforts worldwide, and they are supporting the Ukraine in their fight to halt Putin’s efforts
    (https://www.ifw-kiel.de/publication...us-with-total-commitments-now-twice-as-large/)

Rome fell for a variety of reasons, decay and splitting the Empire being the greatest, and the fifth and twenty first century aren’t particularly comparable

Quick question: If every immigrant coming into the US is illegal, as the right would have us believe, does that mean that Governor Abbott and Texas are shipping illegal immigrants, who if illegal would be criminals, across State lines? Wouldn’t transporting known criminals be against the law?

Politicians had the power to shut down the border all along. No "deal" is needed to enforce existing immigration laws.

“Existing immigration laws” are the problem

For example, anyone crossing the border can claim refugee status, and by law, after a quick screening, have to appear before a Judge to decide on their claim, and currently we lack the adequate Judicial infrastructure to address the situation. All the razor wire and walls in the world won’t alleviate the problem

What is needed is a reform of the existing immigration system, employing the current one developed in the 1980’s has led to what we are presented today.

Both sides want a reform, and for the first time in decades we have a bipartisan proposal, but on orders of MaraLago, the GOP House refuses to even read it

Biden already has the authority to shut down the border, Declare an emergency and shut it down using EO.

MaraLago had the opportunity to take care of this years ago, but didn't. Both sides are dangling this issue on a string so that voters will keep reaching. My prediction: If this "bipartisan" (Meaning expensive and wasteful) deal goes through, there will be a dog and pony show giving the appearance that people are being turned away. (While in frame) The end result will be no different than what we have now.

We need to go in the opposite direction. Remove incentives. No more free healthcare, drivers licenses, sanctuary, etc. I can't blame them for accepting an invitation.

There is a reason no President, even Trump, didn’t use an EO to shut down the border beyond two days, there is too much commercial trade traveling back and forth to not have a negative effect on the economy. Not as easy as AM Talk radio makes it seem

It's pretty rich for an Aussie to sit back and criticize US taxpayers for pushing back on the blank check to Ukraine. I wonder how much they've contributed to Ukraine? I'd imagine it's a tiny fraction of what the US has been giving. But American conservatives who have a problem with the gross amount being given are mentally retarded.

I’d disagree with much of that, but regardless, given it is the only bipartisan attempt taken in decades it is worth pursuing, neither side will get the other to agree on any thing even remotely similar for decades to come

And the shame of it is that the GOP screamed no aid for the Ukraine and Israel unless the border is included and now that they have what they wanted, demanded, they won’t even look at it

The barring the what you call “incentives” wouldn’t be legal, via the 14th Amendment, anyone in the US, citizen or not, is entitled to the same rights and privileges of anyone else

Biden has the ability LEGALLY to do everything that Texas is doing at their border. Yes. Absolutely. Biden does not need a new bill passed to put up barbed wire fencing or properly police the border and reject instantly all those who attempt to come across. The bill brings no new powers needed to do what Texas is already doing.

Your problem is that progressives are morally bound in NOT policing the border. The incentive is cheap labor and democratic voters. So you flood them in.

Well tough ****. Texas said no. Enough is enough. It's been 4 years of incompetence by the Biden administration and the cascading effects of his inability to police the border have proven disastrous.

Correct, the Republican Party has no leg to stand on when it comes to debt and that in no way changes what I said.

I expect Europe to shoulder the vast majority of the burden and we can offer support. That's not how it's working. It's the other way around. If we didn't have our bases all over the continent they'd be forced to properly fund their defense budgets and then they wouldn't be able to support their lavish social welfare states at our expense. We have our own issues that need taken care of within our borders.

You are aware that the US doesn’t send blank checks to anyone, the majority of the money the US gives to the Ukraine is spent within the US in American companies that manufactures the arms

Beyond photo ops, Texas is not doing anything at the border. Why would an immigrant claiming refugee status, which the majority of them do now coming from South and Central America, risk razor wire when they can enter thru an official port of entry

The only reason it's never been done is because it's never been this big a problem. When I say shut the border down, I mean shut down the fake asylum scam. The large caravans of mostly single men who felt their lives were in such danger that they fled and left their loved ones behind to fend for themselves. Agents should be allowed to turn them away without a hearing unless they are from a select few countries who might have legitimate claims. Because the fact they left their families behind tells me they are not fleeing an oppressive regime and don't qualify for asylum.

This is not worthy of a response. I'm pretty sure you understood that it is a figure of speech. Talking about taxpayer expense.

If it has never been “this big a problem” why was it the central focus of his 2016 campaign and endless bloviating during his Presidency? Trump didn’t do it cause he knew it was impractical and wasn’t a real solution

And you can not shut down what you call the “asylum scam” without violating the law, it would be illegal, the only way to do that is thru a reform of immigration law, which is what the bipartisan Senate proposal is doing

It is a fact, the majority of funds allocated to the Ukraine is spent in the US, did you think the Ukraine was going to buy their weapons from Mexico or such

That's precisely the point. You have to declare yourself through an official port of entry. Giving the United States a chance to process you appropriately.

Outside of progressives being upset at "racist Trump", the border wasn't a problem like it is now. And the numbers I posted prove that.

That's basically the problem behind most of the mess government is today- laws aren't enforced, because there are biased and incompetent people in positions they shouldn't be- because rules aren't enforced.
When rules aren't enforced, there are no rules. They exist as wall paper, not disciplinary tools to maintain order.
