California school goes woke and test scores drop

The first chart below are the results from 2022-23. The second chart is from 2021-22. It would be hard to imagine having very many schools with numbers like that and people not being outraged. So let's speculate on why the scores are so bad; is it the teachers, parents or what the school is focusing on in the classroom?

The third chart gives a breakdown on who is in the school and it seems like the people who are being hurt the most by this are the underrepresented and marginalized kids. Going woke did nothing to educate these kids.

So my take based on the two websites above is that the program is not performing as expected, even though this program was approved by parents. Teachers also seem concerned by some of the material. Chit happens, change the program. That's what would happen ordinarily, but noooo, we are living in MAGA crazy world. Finish setting your hairs on fire and move on.

The first paragraph in the story from your link says it all. This school has something like 3.4% of white kids. How do you think they feel being subjected to that garbage?

If the goal was to address white supremacy and racism in the classroom in order for kids to learn better, then how come the kids aren't learning better after the school went woke?

It seems like you are ignoring the kind of "crazy" that lead to this disastrous woke school policy that was so bad, it made kids dumber. Your attempt to sweep it under the rug AND to try and blame it on MAGA has been noted.

 

The left are not concerned with this. The most important education children can get to them is understanding that you can have two mommies or two daddies, that you can decide for yourself what sex you want to be, and it's ok for boys to use girl's bathrooms. After they learn all the wokeness they can start learning their ABC's.

 

Did you forget what grade level we are talking about here? It's kindergarten. Who honestly remembers anything from kindergarten? Maybe a couple of letters, a song or two, and in my case not to puke on my desk. So, if you insist on setting your hair on fire, do it, but this does not look like a big deal.

Fox News At Night did a story on this today. They pretty much exposed woke liberal failures to quite a large audience.

Actually, K-1 *IS* a big deal - in fact, those are the most important years in education. I've taught it a few times, but kinda prefer 6-8. I don't have time to go over this in detail, but the short version is - well, look: teaching math and reading is easy for a 7th-grade teacher because (presumably) the kid already knows how to read and write. Okay, maybe not at 7th grade levels but they have some basic familiarity with the subjects and I have something to build on so that I can improve their capabilities given time. But a K-1 student? They don't know how to read or write or do math AT ALL and you (supposedly) spend all your time building the foundations so that later teachers can build upon them. No solid language or math foundations? It's like building a house without one. Make no mistake: the K-1 years are THE MOST IMPORTANT years of your life as a student because that's when you learn something after starting with nothing and without that something you fall further and further behind the longer you are in school - and beyond.

The time these Woke teachers are spending on hatin' on Whitey or the Cops or Israel or - well, you name it - that's time that isn't being spent on educational fundamentals. You may not remember what you learned in Kindergarten, but what you DID learn was of most importance. You say you learned a couple of the letters? You were actually taught all of them even if you don't remember it. How else do you learn how to read later on if you didn't learn the alphabet then? Maybe learning the numbers wasn't important either? You can't do math without knowing them. And according to the State guidelines, there's a lot of stuff teachers must teach in every grade so that the student is proficient and able to move to the next - because if they don't learn what they're supposed to, the problem gets passed on to the next teacher and the next and so on. Next thing you know, I've got an 8th-grader who can't read in any meaningful way but at least they're woke.

Heck - you may not remember it but you learned pre-algebra in 1st grade. 3 + ___ = 5 is pretty much the same as 348 + x = 509, just with larger numbers. So let's say this school decided to ditch the pre-algebra math lessons for LGBTQ education because there's only so many minutes in an educational day. It's no wonder scores are dropping across the board.

 

I don't know what happened, but if true, a pity because that age is a real opportunity to change kids lives for the better.

Are we not talking about 5 and 6 year olds? Isn't kindergarten only 1 year? Yes, there are only so many minutes to teach a child, I get it. I have no clue why the school and parents settled on this course?

If that's your definition, then it means you are pro-ignorance. I don't deny some types fit stereotypically into whatever boogeyman your tribe subscribes to, but this is all a distraction from the real issues.
