One point to consider is that it would give China access to the Pacific that is not as, shall we say, contained by US allies and military bases. That could make it a very tempting target, akin to how the Russians regard Crimea and Kaliningrad for the warm water sea access they offer.
I'm sure the Chinese will appreciate that prep work being done for them, getting the people there speaking and reading the language before they even come in and take over
