    Full title:
Larry D. Parker On Veterans Day, a Vietnam vet regrets fighting for an America that's become an intolerant bully

    ...

I have to live with the memories of my experience in the U.S. Army, and I am filled with regret about what I did and saw in Southeast Asia just so this country could morph into one that I can’t support as I once did. I never fly my flag anymore, except on Memorial Day in memory of buddies I watched give their all. I don’t believe the troops who served with me had any idea the U.S. would now be led by an individual who seems to meet the diagnostic criteria of multiple mental disorders and is supported to the extreme by what resemble blind sheep stuck in the 20th century.

I did not serve — and would not do it again — just so my country could turn away from its earned position as a world leader or become one that would rather build walls than bridges. Veterans Day for me is about honoring those who took an oath, wore a uniform and manned a post; those who put their own self-interest aside for a period of time to preserve all the good things that America has to offer.

It really is sad what Fox News conservatives and the egomaniac in the White House are collectively doing to this once-great country. But, as long as they're doing it collectively, they won't stop and think..

I agree with him and do not push my kids or anyone else's into military service while we are busy fighting wars for corporate profits and our troops are used as cannon fodder to bolster capitalistic endeavours bottom line.

So basically this vet doesn't like trump. Is there enough bandwidth on this forum to fit all tje positive things vets have said about him? And what does fox news have to do with a person that doesn't like trump?

Are you ready to send your kids to Ukraine?
So, this dude is only loyal to The United States when things go his way. Trump was the legitimately elected president, but since this dude doesn't like him, he no longer loves The United States? He's a moron. Fair weather patriots are the worst.

If Biden and Congress hadn't sent a big load of weapons
over to Kyiv, reaching the front line in quantity on Feb 19
2022, the war wouldn't have started on Feb 24 2022,

just remember that next time you think about not sending
weapons to a country that needs them.

I guess this veteran is an open borders advocate who believes that there should be no boundaries between nations. He thinks the socialist system will produce prosperity like magic and that the outcomes for all will be equal. In other words he supports equity for all supported by the efforts of comparative few who choose to be productive.

It sounds like he listened to the Weather Underground when he got home. He accuses us of being stuck in the 20th century while he lives in the Marxian utopia of the 19th century. Russia, China and all the rest have proven that Marx and Lenin were false prophets.

You can't blame Marx, he died in 1883, he was mostly
contemporary with Charles Dickens and in the same
country. Marx never saw the second stage of the Industrial
Revolution, and was living in a country with a largely
    feudal economy.

He did a good job with what he had.
Here in the US the situation is entirely different.
We have more than we need, and only Joe Biden and Co.
can possibly screw it all up.

So you are one of them who still believe that the USA is the best country in the world, and that not supporting them wars is communist?

The poorest country in the world defeated the richest country in the world.
I suppose it happened because with the war in Vietnam America was sticking it’s nose in where it didn’t belong, and the Vietnamese had their backs to the wall with nothing to lose.

Did he happen to mention how many immigrants he thinks we can support?

It's a good point. I can't think of a US war or military action that was actually for protecting America since world war 2. People enlisting should realize this.

Here's some alternative info on the war in Vietnam.
    https://monthlyreview.org/geography/asia/vietnam/

According the revisionist historians the Vietnamese were tired of having their resources stolen by France and the US. They were fighting for their independence. The US spent much more money on the war than it would have gotten from its stolen resources but the main aim was to send a message to its other de facto colonies* who were also thinking about getting their independence—if you try to get free, you won't succeed.

Your dates are a bit off. Marx did die in 1883. By then the industrial revolution was well under way, by the 1840s and '50s. It got started in the late 1780s when James Watt got his steam engine going. Marx was born in 1818, so his entire life was spent during the start and growth of the industrial revolution. Feudalism was pretty much gone by the late 1700s.

If he is okay with illegal immigrants getting free healthcare without contributing like he did, I respect his opinion.
