Biden has canceled the student loan debt for 78,000 government workers which amounts to $5.8 billion. I don't understand why someone with a secure and well-paying government job need help to pay off a legal debt they signed up for. But then Bidden can't think past an ice cream cone so it has to be Dr. Jill's idea.

You said it clearly. You don't understand. Try to be kinder to the President and his wife and discuss the issue. Why do you disapprove?

The direct implication here is that you DO understand.

Tell us, why SHOULD a government worker be allowed to use taxpayer money to pay back a debt they incurred, based on the money they accepted and spent as part of the loan agreement that they legally signed?

Because accepting a loan accepts the responsibility for repaying it?

Thank you President Biden for assisting American Public servant who could go to the public sector and make 3 times more, but they chose to work for government and serve America.

Very simple. We the taxpayer want to pay up these student loan, that’s why we voted for Biden. Joe Biden was very clear during DNC primary that student needs debt relief and we the taxpayer agreed and voted.

I know you don’t agree, and you voted for the other guy. But you lost.

Next election vote see if your guy wins or not.

Welcome to democracy. Sometimes your guy wins, and other time your guy don’t.

    "We" do?

I am all for results at the ballot box leading to enabling the passage of legislation that the folks voted for. Fortunately, our system is designed to avoid the tyranny of the majority by making legislation difficult to pass, so there is a requirement to pass both houses and overcome the 60 vote threshold in the Senate, to make sure that this tyranny does not occur. Being able to pass legislation by virtue of whom is voted in office is the entire crux of our voting system

Since according to you the people supposedly "voted for this", what piece of legislation allowed for this action?

First, the “60 vote threshold” is not a constitutional requirement.

Biden is using EO to do this. you don’t like it or think it is unconstitutional , take him to SCOTUS. See if you can win.

This is how US law works. See if GOP/ those who are against student debt relief take Biden to SCOTUS and stop him. , if not then no one cares. I am happy what he is doing. If you are not, you can vote for Trump in November.

That is how democracy works in America.

He has already lost once before on this issue by SCOTUS, I would not be surprised if it were to happen again. If you think that executive orders are "how democracy works" I would say that you and I have differing views of what constitutes democracy.

At any rate back to the actual question I posed. You have avoided the question that you responded to. The question was not HOW Biden is in place to issue executive orders, or even whether or not this issue is a proper use of the limited executive order powers. Rather the question is about WHY do you want this? You have instead focused on the how he did it, which lets face it, is a strawman relative to the question asked.

Let me be clear as to what I am asking...Why do YOU want taxpayers to pay off the loan of government workers that spent the proceeds of that loan on themselves and signed a legally binding contract that they will pay back that loan?

Being a person that highly values personal responsibility myself. I have a difficult time understanding the mindset that you are putting forth. Please enlighten us.

It's just buying votes. The left isn't happy with Biden, and he needs all the turnout he can get.

Biden has repeatedly said that forgiving student loans will give people more money to spend which will boost the economy. I say wouldn't a decrease in taxes for all of us do the same thing?

They took out the loans. Why do taxpayers have to pay it for them?

And this is where Conservatism and liberals go completely different way.

As a conservative you believe in “personal responsibility” , as a progressive we believe in “Collective responsibility” . one of the collective responsibilities of a society / nation is to educate her citizen. In an ideal world education funded by government is the best policy. But in America I don’t think we will ever have “ universal education”. So , student debt relief is as close it gets.

    I 100% support this programs.

You don’t like what Biden is doing , go vote for the other guy or take him to SCOTUS again.

How about those in debt to the IRS?

I strongly disapprove of theft. If I make a mistake, I pay for it. If you want to take piano classes, then discover it is not a profitable profession, its on you. This is nothing more than vote buying. The next step is combining voting and ATM machines so they they get the cash right away!

    You got to be kidding!!!

LOL -- They chose government jobs because they can hide in the red tape maze, do little work, can't be fired, have great benefits of paid sick days and paid holidays off, and will have a nice pension when they retire from not working. It's a feather-bedding dream job -- wake up.

It increased government spending by $5.8 million according to the AP story. While the USA borrows money to pay it's bills.

You don't help people by assuming their responsibilities. It makes them dependent on you -- which is what the lefty socialist like.
