A border agent encounters 15 people crossing the border illegally. He cannot catch them all. Should he be allowed to shoot without provocation those entering illegally / running away?

Use of automated lethal defense in areas where the border patrol cannot reach easily. Remote control turrets, explosive devices, etc etc.

These are just off the cuff examples. But whatever lethal mechanisms insert here.

 

It might eventually if the current invasion becomes an open door for continuous terrorist attacks. Of course by then, the country might be beyond saving.

I guess they could always pretend they were Black and that they were scared.

 

They already have authority to shoot armed intruders, or people who assault US officials, local or federal.

Shooting unarmed illegals / migrants just because they crossed over? That depends on how much you value human life.

I saw a video just this week of hundreds of illegals streaming across the border through a hole in the fence. A single border security guard sat there and just waived them through because there was nothing he could do about it.

 

Of course there was something he could have done other than waving them through.

 

What would you have suggested?

 

How about "No hay entrada" and use the car to block the hole in the wall. Why would you wave them through?

 

I'm assuming they are already allowed to use force if necessary. Giving them a license to indiscriminately blast away serves no one but those with an alarming thirst for blood.

 

I don't know why rubber bullets were not employed on the latest violent invasion. Taser charges in mass would be convincing. Also the appearance of National guard armed with fixed bayonets could be a deterrent. They need to be shown most American mean business about our sovereignty!

 

Outside of using force, there was nothing this one single patrolman could have done.

 

No, there is nothing YOU can think of, but obviously there are always options other than waving them through or killing them. I don't even believe the CBP officer waved then through.

 

There is very little that 1 person can do against hundreds without resorting to overwhelming force of some kind.

 

I'm not somebody who is actually concerned about illegal immigration, but I do think it would deter immigration. If potential migrants believed their odds of death crossing the border were high, it would certainly deter more of them. Deterrence operates mostly on perceived likelihood of a significant consequence. The usual tipping point is about a perceived 33% chance of a highly unfavorable outcome. So if over a period of time a large proportion of people trying to cross were killed, and it was known in the source countries this was happening, it would have an effect. Would it really be worth it to stoop to that level though? No.

Waving them through suggests it's okay. Telling them no may not stop them, but it's still a better thing to do if you're supposed to be guarding the border.

 

No. We should not murder people for misdemeanors, especially without a trial. Unfortunately, I've seen many, many on the right support such murder, and we've even had at least one attempted terrorist attack by a Trump supporter to act on it. Hell, my own state's governor lamented that we aren't allowed to murder them because then Biden might . . . arrest them . . . for murder.

 

Border crashers won't pay any attention to anything but the threat of lethal force. That is what we are faced with.

 

Seems unconstitutional, if not then at least unethical by my measure anyway.

Why only for border protection, why not all law enforcement? Give the police free reign to shoot you down if they believe you're breaking the law?

 

The best thing to do would be to get this idiot out of the White House and put someone in there that actually acts like our border means something.

It's a military system. There are many "less than lethal" systems. Dread has been around for years. It was deployed during the Ferguson riots and other civil disturbances.

 

Some people do believe that should be an option (I am not one of them )
