Btw--According to the link the "series of demands" was issued in early January.
It links to an article published on January 8th:
Mexican president demands $20B, work permits for 10M Hispanics in exchange for immigration help
    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/me...0-million-hispanics-exchange-immigration-help
^Thus, since these demands are so outrageous, then why wasn't a bigger deal made about these unconscionable demands in early January?

The US does ~ 3/4 trillion with Mexico of their ~ 1.8 trillion GDP.
This sounds like a cartel bribe. Chutzpah much?

So what. Half of the world's 5 billion people want to come here for a free slice of our country.
Can you blame them? Obviously, we don't want our country! I feel like the Indians did when the palefaces took their land.

They would never do this to Trump, never.

Biden bragged about how he would stand up to Putin, let's see if he stands up to Mexico's extortion.

So who wants to defend our administration now? Mexico treating us like lapdogs. That’s called WEAKNESS folks!! It’s why we needed a wall 6 years ago but maybe this was the Democrat plan all along? Can we call this an invasion yet or will Democrats keep pushing us towards total destruction? They’re already emptying their prisons out sending all the “good ones” over here.

Freaking treason what we’re seeing from Biden.

Looks like annexation is getting to be a better option all the time :) Shouldn't be to hard, the people for the most part are clearly willing to risk EVERYTHING for the chance to become Americans..

Not really. Failing to stop people from exiting/pass through your country vs offering to do more to prevent it is a bargaining chip, not an act of war. It makes perfect sense that he's asking for quid quo pro. Whether it's worth it to us... probably not.

    Two things:
One - It just occurred to me that he probably has Chinese auto factory offers in his in box.
Two - Maybe we should make that contingent with wiping out the cartels to the last man.

Only way he’d agree to wiping out the cartels if we make up the difference:) He has to get paid off by someone. That’s how central and South America roll.

Not when you're facilitating their passage by providing them supplies, food, water and transportation.

That makes the Mexican government complicit. Moreover at BEST it's extortion and at worst it's an act of war

Your article doesn't state he's doing those things. The transportation part is the only part that would be unacceptable. I do not know to what extent he is doing that, and it's possible you've been misled by a source. In the Fox article, he says these demands are necessary to address the root causes of the immigration crisis. Many of the demands do make sense in that context.

No it's not in that article. But it is in this one

So how does making the tens of millions of illegals here become legals help to address the root cause? It doesn't. It INCENTIVIZES them to come even more. Which is exactly his goal. These SA countries are emptying their prisons and sending their trash here

That's why I said "many" not "all." My interpretation of that demand was more that he wanted to make life better for those people because he cares about those people. Aid and lifting of sanctions to make life better in source countries would decrease desperation required to try to illegally go to the US.

I was about to agree with everything you said until I got to @truth and justice post. You and Fox News took that entire interview out of context to rile up Republicans.

He didn’t make a threat, he simply acknowledged that there are structural reasons while this is happening and ignoring those issues will cause it to continue.

I am a huge proponent of border security but an even bigger proponent of honesty and truth. This article has neither

Here is the transcript, if anyone is interested in the truth, rather than the Fox News spin.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mexica...artels-fentanyl-crisis-60-minutes-transcript/

The point is: Only about 30% of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border are Mexican. The rest are from other countries, most from Venezuela, Guatemala etc. Therefore, Mexico is as much a victim in this as the US, with all those migrants trekking through Mexcio. What Obrador is saying that if one wants to reduce illegal immigration, one has to attack the root causes as to why people want to come to the US. In other words, adress the driving force, rather than wall, depotations etc. That's what the $20 billion he talks about is for (and it seems like it is not for Mexico, but other South American countries).

Of course, unsurprisingly, the RW media use this to create more outrage, feeding more immigrant hate. Also not surprisingly, the Trumpers interpret this as an act of war. Seems like they can't wait for the shooting to begin.
