An American attorney, a former U.S. Army prosecutor, a former assistant U.S. Attorney in the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Glenn Kirschner exposes a common problem with our American judicial system reporting on former Trump advisor Steven Bannon that a corrupt judge is letting two of Trumps close advisors - Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon - who committed the same crimes (two counts of contempt of Congress) and received the same sentence (four months in prison). Yet, Navarro's judge ordered Navarro to begin serving his sentence, while Bannon's judge allowed Bannon to avoid prison while his case winds its way through the appellate process. The difference? Bannon's judge - Carl Nichols - was appointed by Donald Trump.

And currently, Steven Bannon is threatening the American people in mass--he is PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER 2. Trump, Public Enemy Number 1 is making the same fascist threats to be a dictator and has been indicted over 90 times! Both Fascists are still making threats. The American high courts are completely confused on what to do.

There are at least three inherent flaws of the Kantian ethical and legal theory. 1.) It is unable to realize its own judicial project because society is organized in a way that makes criminal behavior intrinsic to its political economy, so judicial harmony is never universally achieved and isn't even expected. 2.) It is unable to resolve the conflicts and priorities between one duty and another so to address the particular duties of conscience required for human ethical life in an authoritarian repressive state that is more preoccupied by ideal duty. Legal bureaucracies do not recognize duties of conscience, but simply acts on the one duty that calls out for a conviction. 3.) The judicial project degrades to act only on "what seems right." Legalism replaces moral conscience, "It is now the law that exists for the sake of the self, not the self that exists for the sake of the law (Hegel, Phenomenology of Spirit, para., 639)." This is a form of idolatry. Some radical once said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27).”

The lawgiver over time becomes a "whore." The ancient Greek word πόρνη (por-nay)(meaning “harlot,” or “prostitute”) is used 32 times in the Old and New Testament Bible in five English translations of the Christian texts. In the New Testament, por-nay is used as a metaphor for a female idol worshiper who fails to worship the true Goddess of Democracy and Freedom, and instead, worships the false god of the state. Further analysis of Kant's deontological ethical critique can be found in the video, "Hegel's Conscience and Arjuna's Dilemma "by Ravi Joseph.

You raise a number of interesting points (perhaps better reserved for a new thread of their own). And, although it has little to do with 'robot dogs', this may be a good time to take a closer look at my favorite German philosopher, Immanuel Kant (whom you referred to above): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_Kant

The great unanswered question remains: does the "end" justify the "means"?

"If our civilization is destroyed, it will not be by barbarians from below. Our barbarians come from above."
    – Henry Demarest Lloyd, American journalist (1847-1903)

Chille is a good man! I am attracted to his work because of his passion and commitment to his project. I view him a kindred spirit, and donate to his noble struggle even though I was at one time a commissioned police officer. I still have friends that were in law enforcement, although they would be retired from service by this time. I still consider them as friends who later worked in two State investigative law enforcement agencies and was even asked to consider working for a drug enforcement agency years ago. One former co-worker and friend teaches law and drug enforcement at a State University. In my community, I know and have friends in my local police department (attend academy with them, in fact) and in two other adjacent city police departments. One lieutenant said in public that he would be proud to work with me in the field. So, I am not a cop hater because some police officers, believe it or not, are better than how they are trained.

“Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage.
Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are.”

    ― St. Augustine of Hippo

Chille is a good citizen! There are utopian idealists still around! Here is the advice I would give Chille. He has a massive database of videos of how police officers deal with citizens. Chille has made his point over and over again with his interactions with law enforcement--taking further risk is unnecessary, and ultimately unproductive for the long-term goals. I would go back and critique those videos again on police/public interactions, give written legal commentary and analysis of each interaction. Engage in less field operations and more in historical research. The common citizen has more influence on police policies than they realize-- well-reasoned citizen complaints can go a long way. Explain key court cases that reinforce citizen rights, and spotlight errors committed by the officer. None of this requires further in person interactions by the author. We all must decide for ourselves what level of risk to take seeking political reforms. For example, in many of his videos the police show up wearing a utility belt with thousands of dollars of police equipment including a firearm, mace, stun-gun, special ammo, vest, clubs, cuffs, radios, flashlights---all this stuff is after-market police paraphernalia and is a multi-million-dollar industry. And these military instruments are migrating into the civilian population. Brass knuckles are illegal in most municipalities, but military gloves with ceramic disks embedded inside covering the knuckles is acceptable--they should be outlawed. The more fear generated in civil society about crime and terrorism by law enforcement and the mainstream media, the more para-military paraphernalia can be sold under the meme of "officer safety," and "home defense." The driving forces is sometimes a police officer who will act as a lobbyist and salesman to bring these weapons into the department and get paid a sales commission. Police work is inherently dangerous...and then there are the street criminals who a danger also.

"It is time for the American people to demonstrate the courage to demand an end
to fake news, fake history, fake law, fake diplomacy and fake democracy."

and served as a UN Independent Expert on International Order 2012-18.

Voltaire is the man for our times. He wrote from experience and learned tyranny's tricks:

"So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious or otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men."-- Voltaire (1694-1778)

During July 2003 while exploring with my wife Highway 1 along the coast in Marin County, we stopped at the Vedanta Society Retreat near Olema to walk the trails. During WWII, the Vedanta church allowed military conscientious objectors (draft resisters of the Nazi army) to stay at the retreat. Author Christopher Isherwood was among these refugees after escaping Germany. His novels inspired the movie Cabaret and he translated into English the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, and into the best prose you ever read. Along the trail we met another couple. The man's name was Chris Highland, and he gave me an autograph copy of his book "Meditations of Henry David Thoreau: A Light in the Woods" (2002). Thoreau is too often neglected in our thoughts.

"Under a government which imprisons any unjustly,
the true place for a just man is also a prison."

Henry David Thoreau was jailed by the United States government for not paying a poll-tax and was imprisoned for one day before his friend paid the tax. Thoreau wrote about his experience in jail (Public Domain in the US):

"As they could not reach me, they had resolved to punish my body; just as boys, if they cannot come at some person against whom they have a spite, will abuse his dog. I saw that the State was half-witted, that it was timid as a lone woman with her silver spoons, and that it did not know its friends
from its foes, and I lost all my remaining respect for it, and pitied it. Thus the State never intentionally confronts a man’s sense,
intellectual or moral, but only his body, his senses."

"Fascist serial rapist"??? LOLOL.... Trump has never been CONVICTED of any crime in any CRIMINAL COURT in the nation. Wait... he must have been CONVICTED in the court of your mind. OK. But we all know that doesn't count. Fascist? How so? What specific things did he do to lead you to say THAT?

Arming this robot? Not a bad idea if it can save police and civilian lives and enhance apprehension of criminals.

Robots committing rape? Have another toke.

Chille Castro Reports on the Method of State Torture Known as Sensory Deprivation.

"This is Chille Castro's report from the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas on April 4th, 2024. As an innocent man unjustly incarcerated, he gives his thoughts and perspective on being in jail with no victim or damages. He passionately argues that state constitutions should be amended to prohibit jailing people for misdemeanors with no victim.

Chille describes the dehumanizing conditions, including being locked in the "hole" for 23 hours a day in isolation. He questions why misdemeanor offenders are treated like hardened criminals, stripped of basic dignity. He advocates for more humane alternatives like monitored apartment complexes where non-violent offenders can continue working and maintaining family ties.

He criticizes the for-profit prison industrial complex that incentivizes incarcerating people to make money for the state. Chille's goal is to raise awareness of civil liberties violations and spark reforms to end unjust incarceration when there is no victim. Despite his circumstances, his defiant spirit shines through in this must-watch video report."

"A common and natural result of an undue respect for law is, that you may see a file of soldiers, colonel,
captain, corporal, privates, powder-monkeys and all, marching in admirable order over hill and dale to the wars, against their wills,
aye, against their common sense and consciences, which makes it very steep marching indeed, and produces a palpitation of the
heart. They have no doubt that it is a damnable business in which they are concerned; they are all peaceably inclined.
    Now, what are
they? Men at all? or small moveable forts and magazines, at the service of some unscrupulous man in power? Visit the Navy Yard, and behold a marine, such a man as an American government can make, or such as it can make a man with its black arts,—a mere shadow and reminiscence of humanity, a man laid out alive and standing, and already, as one may say, buried under arms with funeral accompaniments...."

Here is a particularly relevant passage from Thoreau:

The mass of men serve the State thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. They are the standing army, and the militia, jailers, constables, posse comitatus, &c. In most cases there is no free exercise whatever of the judgment or of the moral sense; but they put themselves on a level with wood and earth and stones; and wooden men can perhaps be manufactured that will serve the purpose as well. Such command no more respect than men of straw, or a lump of dirt. They have the same sort of worth only as horses and dogs. Yet such as these even are commonly esteemed good citizens...they are as likely to serve the devil, without intending it, as God."

One consequent of having endless voluntary imperialistic wars is that civil society becomes uncivil, cold-blooded, pitiless, and hyper-militaristic. This general state of consciousness is sufferable (maybe even desirable) for capitalism since it justifies even harsher anti-crime laws creating a spiral of actus reus [misconduct] and self-justifying excuses for greater authoritarianism.

"Thus, under the name of order and civil government, we are all made at last to pay homage to and support our own meanness. After the first blush of sin, comes its indifference; and from immoral it becomes, as it were, unmoral, and not quite unnecessary to that life which we have made."

The Penal Colony: The Immorality of Morality

“... the commandant's essential guiding principle is that guilt is never to be doubted.”
    --Kafka

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) is considered an existentialist philosopher and Jewish writer who explores the absurdities and contradictions of human existence such as in his famous short story “In the Penal Colony,” (1941) (PC) that examines the immorality of morality.

In this fictional thirty-eight-page story is about a traveler visiting an island colony under the absolute control of the “Commandant” who tortures and executes prisoners living in the colony with a machine (a metaphor for legalistic judicial systems) that tattoos the condemned prisoners without ink over a twelve-hour period while strapped down on a bed, equipped with an inscriber, and the harrow that is a rake-like tool with spikes. “'The condemned man has the commandment that he has transgressed inscribed on his body with the harrow. This condemned man...will have inscribed on his body: Honour thy superiors!’ (PC, p. 23).” The rest of the prisoner's body will have written on it the entire island legal code, with multiple passes with longer needles. The prisoner will not know what specific law he violated and at the moment the prisoner realizes his crime and accepts his punishment a look of resignation appears, at which point an iron spike pierces through his forehand. Justice achieved.

The commandant tells the traveler one morning that a captain reported a prisoner who had been assigned to him as a servant was found asleep on duty. The prisoner had been ordered to get up every hour and salute the captain's door--a meaningless and dehumanizing assignment. The captain wanted to see if the man was doing his duty as told. Instead, the man was found asleep. The captain took his riding crop and whipped him across the face while still asleep. The man caught hold of the captain's legs, threw his whip away and said, “I'll eat you alive.” The captain was able to catch the prisoner asleep, and his reaction to being beaten in the face with a whip is now a capital crime to be executed by the Great Machine.

The Terrifying Ideology in George Orwell's Novel Nineteen Eighty-Four

“The denial of reason in the classical sense is antihuman because it is antidivine.”
--Paul Tillich. Systematic Theology Vol. I. Chicago:
    The University of Chicago Press, 1951, 1957 & 1963, p. 72.

“To continue the metaphor, the center is a point, and a point cannot be divided. A centered being can develop another being out of itself, or it can be deprived of some parts which belong to the whole [Gestalt]: but the center as such cannot be divided—it can only be destroyed.”
-- Paul Tillich. Systematic Theology Vol. III. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1951, 1957 & 1963, p. 32.

I believe socialist George Orwell's critique of fascism in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1948) is much more truthful and relevant than the neo-liberalism of Friedrich Hayek and his mentor Ludwig von Mises' political economy. I have written an economic critique of neoliberalism at my thread Free Market Fundamentalist Ideology is based on a Logical Fallacy and see my debate with Appleo on egoism and Kantian deontology (study of duty) in his thread, "I'm an Objectivist. Debate me."
