So President Biden proposed the US citizenship act, part of which proposes a pathway to citizenship for millions of people illegally in this country.

There is no way that anyone who came here violating our laws should be rewarded with citizenship. Not only is it wrong for those who actually immigrated legally, it is also sending a clear message to any people considering coming here illegally in the future. People who break our laws should not be rewarded for doing so.

Their pathway to citizenship should be right back to the country they came from. Democrats are absolutely the open border party.

And let's not try to fool anyone, Democrats desire to Grant citizenship is not born from any sense of altruism..... They are having a wet dream at the prospect of millions of new democrat voters so they can lock up one party control forever.

Clearly sending the message that America is the place to immigrate illegally to. You'll be rewarded for breaking our laws.

Americans Want the Immigration Bill Congress Won’t Pass, WSJ Poll Shows

March 7, 2024 An even larger share, some 74%, support creating a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have been in the country for many years and pass a background check. That makes a path to citizenship the single most popular of eight immigration policies the Journal asked about.
    https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy...ll-congress-wont-pass-wsj-poll-shows-227b9bb8

Most Americans are wise and compassionate enough to want undocumented immigrants to have a path to citizenship. Count the views on this issue among the many others held by congressional Repubs that do not reflect the will of the people.

Not sure what act you are referring to, but I would assume it all depends on what the pathway is and who it is for (is it about asylum seekers?)

How do you know who they would vote for? We imported 2 million Cubans, and they vote Republican and no one whines about that.

Right. Most people support it if the conditions make sense. The OP is pre-occupied with "democrats this and democrats that" and does not provide any information about that proposal, so we don't know who it would cover and under what conditions.

Of course Democrats want millions of new registered Democrat voters.

It is absolutely the wrong thing to do because it is rewarding lawbreakers and I don't care how many people think it's a good idea. It's a stupid idea they will only get us more illegal immigration in the future.

You don't fix a problem by creating more of the same.

The pathway to citizenship includes those undocumented immigrants who are already in the country.

Anyone who comes here illegally should automatically be denied asylum - forever. If you want to claim asylum then you come here through the front door, not the back door.

How is it wise to reward breaking our laws while those going through the legal process are left behind?

Except the front door just doesn't exist for most of these people. I personally would like to go back to how it was when our country was founded, with a few more restrictions, but not many.

Again, for many of these people, there is no legal process available.

I'm well aware of the fact that it applies to illegal aliens. Of course they're already in the country.

And then the ones who haven't made the trip yet assume they'll get amnesty too because after all the ones who are in the country illegally now we're not here at one point

How are they being left behind?

An earned pathway to citizenship, with restitution, allows the undocumented to fully assimilate and integrate into the United States without being unfair to those who have waited years for their green card applications to be approved. The solution must be in the rational middle ground between mass deportation and amnesty.
    https://www.bushcenter.org/publications/solutions-for-undocumented-immigrants

Qualified applicants for citizenship have to go thru an eight year waiting period, pay any back taxes they owe, and pass a background check. The process is similar to the one included in the 2013 immigration reform bill passed by a solid bipartisan majority in the Senate but blocked by Boehner.

These undocumented immigrants and their families are already engrained in our country. According to a 2021 George W. Bush Presidential Center white paper, approximately two-thirds of them have been in the US for over a decade. 1.6 million were married to US citizens in 2018 and 675,000 were married to lawful permanent residents. 4.4 million American children citizens and another 100,000 lawful permanent resident or nonimmigrant children had at least one undocumented parent. [35] [36]

95.8% of undocumented immigrants were employed in 2018, contributing a total of $20.1 billion in federal income taxes and $11.8 billion in state and local taxes. In doing so, they created a $100 billion surplus in the Social Security program between 2004 and 2014 and a $35.1 billion surplus in the Medicare Trust Fund between 2000 and 2011. In other words, though they created these surpluses for the country through the automatic payroll taxes they pay they still were denied the benefits that other taxpayers receive.

The country will be better off if we create a path to citizenship.

And like that time, let’s really go back. NO welfare or handouts. You work or you die? You steal from your neighbor you get shot. Fair?

You have to wonder why all these amazing people who are failures in their own country somehow can come here and make things better:) NOPE. They come and just bring us down to their level.

If you can’t afford to fly in through customs, with full documentation a job and bank account, we don’t need you. And that’s the whole point. OUR country needing THEM, not the other way around.

If they are not willing to do the hard work it takes to stay and make their country a better place, why would anyone think that they would have any particular allegiance to this country?

I don't really know of any welfare that most of these people would qualify for, and every bit of evidence I've seen says they pay more in than they take out, but sure, I'm for removing welfare for them if it exists.

And the barriers I'm talking about have nothing to do with not being able to "afford to fly in through customs," etc. You are miles away from the point.

'Open borders' may prove to have been the worst political miscalculation by the DP since its attack on Fort Sumter.

CNN — Democrats have been growing increasingly anxious about public polls showing former President Donald Trump making unprecedented inroads among Black and Hispanic voters."

"Surveys now consistently show Trump leading President Joe Biden nationally and in almost all of the key swing states. But those same surveys generally show Biden matching or even exceeding his winning 2020 share of the vote among White voters. Trump’s lead in polls is often based solely on him significantly improving on his 2020 showing among voters of color – and in fact, running better among Blacks and Hispanics than any Republican presidential candidate in decades.”

I can't believe he actually thought he was making some sort of point.

    Immigrating legally takes years.
