I didnt get the impression from anyone calling for Sotomayer to step down that experience is the concern. The cited reason is to keep a lefty SCJ from being replaced with a righty SCJ. Apparently folks on neither side of the aisle have any faith that SCJs will just rule on whats intended in the Constitution...

That's pretty stupid since hamstringing the government is exactly what the 1st Amendment is supposed to do.

Obviously, education and intelligence aren't synonymous.

 

Sotomayor isn't yet 70, much less in her 80s. She should have at least another 12 years on the bench, and who knows who will be president then? Forcing her out must be a right wing fantasy.

1) It is not even remotely a chance
2) it is not a plan that ANY democrat would stand by
3) It is uniquely designed to "talk about it" by republicans who will then express outrage about this invented hypothetical as if it were a real thing.

Indeed that is what the Opinion piece sited was saying, and politically one can see the sense in replacing older justices with younger justices to prolongs one sides power base. But boy is the cynicism distatestful. but very real.
The issue that many people have is the OP's fantasy scenario having Kamala installed on the SC to make room for a new VP. Which would be Newsom. Which would allow Biden to step daon and Newsom take his place on the ballot.; Which is so cuckoo for coco puffs that I don't know how this is stil being talked about.

Sotomayor has had Type-1 diabetes for years, and is in such bad today that she must travel with a medic with her. Many stories about this have appeared during the last two months in the news. So, its really not surprising that people in the liberal Democrat camp will start encouraging her to retire. And although it is far fetched I have to agree that it would give Democrats a convenient place to put Kamala Harris and get her off of any future ticket of political candidates.

 

That Dobb's decision was the biggest gift that witless Republicans have ever given to radical Democrats. They took that decision and painted all Republicans as monsters who tried to make abortion illegal throughout the United States, but it didn't do any such thing at all. Republicans are by far their own worst enemies.

Partially true. Dobbs simply restored the pre-insane status quo to the constitution. It was a good decision. The political problem is that Pro-life Republicans decided to take that as a signal to go all the way on a position that wasn't particularly popular. This has galvanized the Democrats politically as a result of Pro-life overreach. In my own state of Florida The GOP dominated legislators enacted a 6 week abortion ban which has, predictably, enacted a back lash which has lead to an abortion rights referendum that will be on the fall ballot. So this will mobilize the pink hairs to show up in a way that no issue on the GOP side will.

That's why the GOP is the stupid party.

Indeed. All it would take is for Biden to go to the hospital with (insert random old age problem here and it fits) and he steps down because of that. Then Harris is replaced for (insert literally any reason here, NO ONE will bother to question it) and Newsom is put on the ballot as an 'emergency' candidate.

So that you can run all over the place pretending that Newsom is going to turn the rest of the country into san Fransisco. And that you had better register and vote, otherwise there will be needles and poop all over America. And everyone will turn trans.

So, there ARE many democrats who hoped to have another candidate in 2024 . None of them are hoping it will be Newsom.

May be you can write in Harvard Law Review your scholarly view on 1st Amendment. Until then, I will ignore your opinion about 1st amendment.
