Party Of Science Update: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee tells school kids that moon is a ‘planet’ and ‘made up mostly of gases.’

'Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) stunned attendees at a high school solar eclipse event Monday by claiming the rock-solid moon is a “planet” that is “made up mostly of gases” — before adding she still wants to be “first in line” to learn how to live there.'

Apparently she hasn't given much thought to exactly how one would live on a gaseous planet.

How embarrassing is it for Dems that she was once the top Democrat on the House Science Committees space subcommittee? What criteria was used to select her?

'The former top Democrat on the House Science Committee’s space subcommittee badly botched elementary lunar facts while speaking during the gathering at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston.'

Booker T Washington would be appalled.

Booker T. Washington, freed from slavery by advancing Republican Troops. Years later after making phenomenal advances for the education of Black Folks, he dined with Republican President, Teddy Roosevelt.

Shelia Jackson Lee tries to sound intelligent:

'“You’ve heard the word ‘full moon.’ Sometimes you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon is that complete rounded circle, which is made up mostly of gases,” Jackson Lee, 74, told teenage pupils who gathered on a sports field ahead of the rare celestial event.'

Hopefully these students are well enough educated to know that they were listening to the rantings of an idiot.

She later complained about Republicans who pointed out that not only is the moon rocky rather than gaseous, it essentially doesn't really even have an atmosphere other than in the most negligible sense.

This isn’t the first time that the final frontier has vexed Jackson Lee:

'During a 1997 visit to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, Jackson Lee, who was then serving on the House Science Committee and on the Subcommittee that oversees U.S. space policy, asked a guide whether the Mars Pathfinder would be able to show an image of “the flag the astronauts planted there before.” When it was subsequently pointed out that the flag to which she was referring was in fact the one that Neil Armstrong had planted on the Moon—not Mars—in 1969, Jackson Lee complained that she was being mocked by bigots. “You thought you could have fun with a black woman member of the Science Committee.”'

Actually it was mainly embarrassed uncomfortableness that someone clearly this incredibly ignorant of basic science was on the science committee.

And this does not even begin to plumb the depths of Shelia Jackson Lee's stupidity: The Constitution Is 400 Years Old and More Pearls From Sheila Jackson Lee.

American Transition To Idiocracy Running Ahead Of Schedule.

"We've become morons much more quickly than we anticipated," said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. "Though it initially seemed like an impossible feat, our hard work to turn the United States into a nation governed by total imbeciles is nearly complete. We've succeeded in weeding out the country's best and brightest and replaced them with drooling dolts. There's now light at the end of the tunnel. The dream of a nation run entirely by idiots is within reach."

Read the whole thing and discuss.

    It's not her fault.

Might not be the college. It is probably the person, who attended, managed to pass the exams but still LEARNED NOTHING.

I used to think that stupidity was not contagious. Now I am not so sure ;-)

She lied in her statement claiming she was talking about living on the sun (lol), but if you listen to her speech she was very clearly talking about a "full moon" when discussing the moon being made of gas. She didn't misspeak. She's an idiot. And she lied thinking there would be plenty of people who would just believe her without actually researching her statement. Lots of people take stupid Democrats at their word when they're very obviously lying because it's what they want to hear, unfortunately. You can usually identify them because they say things like "Orange Creep," "Orange Leader," "MAGAs," "Orange Deity," etc.

Some even have signatures falsely claiming to research their posts extensively before getting duped and believing fake news.

Yes on both accounts. I heard them say that stuff. Don't know how anyone missed it as those comments were used by comedians for sometime following their utterances.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is a good example of how DEI works. And just think, she votes.

Should people study and know about History?
    Does anybody disapprove of that?
Some people on here get their knickers in a twist about ‘critical race theory’, but what is the study of CRT if it isn’t the study of History?
All study of history has bias in one way or another.
That is why it is an area of study.

The woman who told school students the Moon is made of gases is pig ignorant.

No, you heard Tina Fey say that. What Palin said was, "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska" I've already quoted what Trump actually said. Memory is a strange thing and this is why eye witness testimony is so easy to debunk sometimes.

Maybe not. But she apologized. And she's just a House Rep who is not in charge of telling people whether they should live on the Sun or not. It's STILL more concerning when a President talks about injecting disinfectant when he IS in charge of providing a solution to a deadly pandemic. To this day, he has not apologized for it. And yet.... you are voting for more of it! Which means that this type of things don't REALLY concern you that much. (a.k.a. hypocrisy)

THAT is the point I was making.

So you think it's excusable for someone who was on the Aeronautics and Space Subcommittee to be so stupid that they think the moon is a gas planet simply because she apologized?
She should be removed from public life and maybe sent back to grade school. But no, people who are even more stupid than she, will continue to vote for her.

That would be my question to YOU. Trump DID mean it that way. Why do you play like he didn't?

And you using "it wasn't meant" in an impersonal way is noted. HE meant it that way. And that's not the main problem. The main thing is that his FOLLOWERS understood it that way. And he did NOTHING to correct it even after everybody in the MAGA press were making up excuses for him.

Lee proves that land based universities have been, for the most part, a boondoggle.
In the age of the internet they have become obsolete. It is time to sell the land for some productive use and deliver the lectures online.

“There’s a widespread conviction, spoken and unspoken, that the road to riches is trimmed in Ivy and the reins of power held by those who’ve donned Harvard’s crimson, Yale’s blue and Princeton’s orange, not just on their chests but in their souls. No one told that to the Fortune 500. They’re the American corporations with the highest gross revenues. The list is revised yearly. As I write this paragraph in the summer of 2014, the top ten are, in order, Wal-Mart, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Berkshire Hathaway, Apple, Phillips 66, General Motors, Ford Motor, General Electric and Valero Energy. And here’s the list, in the same order, of schools where their chief executives got their undergraduate degrees: the University of Arkansas; the University of Texas; the University of California, Davis; the University of Nebraska; Auburn; Texas A&M; the General Motors Institute (now called Kettering University); the University of Kansas; Dartmouth College and the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Just one Ivy League school shows up.”

Yes, but what is Donald Rumsfeld's excuse? ;-)

“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.” Donald Rumsfeld, US Defense Secretary, Princeton.. WHEN HE SAID IT: at a press conference at NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium, June 6, 2002.

More fake news. More research is needed. She lied and said she misspoke. But even if she did misspeak and claim she was talking about the sun, the sun is less habitable than the moon, and her statement is still stupid. No reason to read the rest of this post that is clearly not based on research, facts, or logic and is instead based solely on the political party she represents.

Here's a other example of the deflections. This fake news argument falsely claiming she "apologized" without evidence. She did the opposite. She attacked the people talking about and called them names. Considering her history of punishing her employees who report sexual assault from their superiors and her well documented history of verbal harassment of staffers you'd think we could all get behind laughing at her stupidity. But she has the right letter next to her name so she gets a pass.

This lady is an idiot. Trump is an idiot. These facts are not mutually exclusive, and one does not excuse the other. Both are symptoms of a horribly broken system.

Lee said she went to Harvard. If I was Harvard I would be suing her. And demanding that she no longer says she went to Harvard.

Gerrymandering. There's a court ruling that says you have to create districts with a majority of minorities to provide representation. Without gerrymandering she most likely couldn't have been elected.

    This is her district:
