Irondale man indicted on terrorism charge for detonating explosive at AG’s Office

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Kyle Douglas Calvert is indicted on two federal counts for his reported role in detonating an improvised explosive device or IED at the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in late February, according to court records. Calvert was arrested Wednesday. No staff or personnel were injured by the explosion.

Calvert is charged with malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered firearm. According to court records, Calvert was recorded saying he can’t overcome violent impulses and that’s violent by nature. The investigation indicates Calvert is aligned with Antifa, which is short for antifascist.

I would have thought this would have made bigger news. I'm surprised I had not heard of this until now.

Well, I'm not surprised that it didn't make the mainstream news. The issue is that this was a mental health incident. That man had violent impulses that he couldn't control. You can't bring that up because our mental health system is broken, and we all know who to blame. Don't we?

Your next to last paragraph explains why you haven't heard about it until now.

He's a little left winger so don't expect any coverage by any sort of mainstream media.

Just to make it clear what I'm talking about, here in this country we ended the institutionalization of mental patients so they aren't sent away for life. They spend a week or two in the psych ward and then get released into the community. There were supposed to be community support systems in place to help the mentally ill adjust to life in the outside world, but that support system didn't happen.

In other words, we ended institutionalization but didn't put in community support. This was years ago before my time. I just understand that we failed the mentally ill.

PS Violent people who can't control themselves are a danger to everybody. Institutionalized or in the community. I wouldn't want them to roam the streets or what. There's a reason I support the death penalty, euthanasia, and the right to die. Some people are better off going away. Not to wish death on anybody, but also other people should have the right to be protected from people who would harm them. There are some irredeemable cases in mental health.

Just to let you know, there are outpatient medical health benefits if you have good health insurance. So, if you're poor or rich with good benefits you can get care outside in the community. Usually, that's a mental health doctor to give you mental health medications, and there's also talk therapy.

I think the real story is that the media gave very little coverage to this. We all know there are huge double standards.

If this were some Caucasian Right wing or Trump-supporter type person, it would probably have been given lots of national coverage.

I'd also be curious what alleged "grievance" this person had against the Alabama Attorney General. Probably something stupid and emotional, I'm guessing, which isn't really in proportion to logical sense.
