Yep. There are prototypes of UV and IR (full spectrum) utilizing panels. None commercially available.

3.5 square miles of a flooded area to produce 650 Mega Watts?? That's ridiculous. A standard BWR nuclear plant produces 1000 Mega Watts.

Yet! But as I said the future will hold new solutions. You know I remember back in the eighties when the grizzle was “if governments put the same money into research for alternate energy sources as they currently put into subsidies for fossil fuel we could research our way out of this. We have lost so much time…….

Again, your (unsubstantiated) opinions are noted.

I’m going with the conclusions of 116 formal studies.

Funny how ya’ll accept or reject evidence produced through application of the scientific method based on whether or not it supports your preconceived bias and opinions.

More evidence both tribes are science deniers. Sad.

We aren’t discussing the future. We are discussing 116 studies that showed rooftop solar increases the heat island effect.

I use solar power. I’ll add a lot more in the next couple years. I like it. But I see no reason to reject evidence produced through application of the scientific method that some perceive as casting a shadow on rooftop solar.

I don’t see how denying science helps anyone.

I gather those 116 studies were not part of a systematic review?

    Google it.

Located in Fuyang City of east China's Anhui Province, the new PV power station is constructed in a flooded area once used for coal mining of 867 hectares, with an overall installed gross capacity of 650,000 KW.

The entire premise is nitpicking, as I stated earlier, and you dismissed.

Even with white roofs, in retrospect to "the big picture", the entire article is blowing things out of proportion, considering you have asphalt roads and parking lots just sucking up heat in urban areas. What is the net effect of solar panels in relation to this? ---- .000000001% ?

Oh. So your unsubstantiated opinion with made up numbers has more value than a systematic review of 116 published works on the subject. Sorry. Going with science in this one.

Thank-you now we both have the same reference. So your point again was?

    LOL. SMH.

Guess someone isn’t reading my posts before responding. Of course a systematic review. It’s what I posted to counter unsubstantiated opinions you and others hold.

I'll go with common sense on this one. Because it's needed.

Well I finally found the paper and it will take me time for a full review but I already have questions regarding methodology for inclusion

I’m in for the night so have time to correct some (more) of your errors. When light moves from air to glass, almost all light is transmitted except at very high incidence angles. So between 8 am and 4 pm, almost all light will be transmitted and almost no light will be reflected.

If panels are “tilted” at the correct angle for your latitude, you will never see incidence angles high enough on that axis (north to south) to decrease transmission below about 90%. And even with no tracking on the East to west axis, nearly 100% will transmit between 8 am and 4 pm. Around 6:30 am and 5:30 pm you will get to 50% reflection and 50% transmission.

(These of course are approximations as daylight savings time and latitude will make things vary a bit).

So the idea there is any great deal of reflection during the vast majority of the day is a false premise that is not based on physics or astronomy. This isn’t my opinion or “common sense”. It’s just facts of physics and astronomy.

Remember you stated nobody has a white roof. But white roofs are mandated on commercial properties in California and I supplied pictures of houses with white roofs. I have two houses with very light colored shingles. Out of about 18 outbuildings only 3 have “dark” roofs (forest green). The rest have galvalume coating that is very reflective.

Besides, looks can be deceiving. Products like this have been around for awhile. Just because a roof is dark colored doesn’t mean it may not be reflecting a lot of solar radiation.

That's pretty incredible - 1300 standard football fields. Evidently they are expecting some added benefits, apart from the energy. It was brought fully online in December of 2023.

    https://news.cgtn.com/news/2023-12-...-station-fully-operational-1pS3uGn0xu8/p.html

The new floating PV power station fully utilizes the idle water surface in mining subsidence areas to reduce evaporation, suppress the growth of microorganisms in the water, achieving purification of water quality and long-term protection of the surrounding water environment.

While optimizing the ecological environment, the PV components are laid out reasonably on the water surface to absorb solar energy and generate electricity, forming a "fishery-photovoltaic complementary" model.

I can see myself navigating my boat between the arrays, trying to find the best fishing spot.
