    And they should worry!

Now having said that, two people going into a corporate restaurant, like Olive Garden, Chile's, Friday's etc, can figure on spending $50.00 or more.

I've decided that I'm just going to stop going out to eat as much. Maybe a couple times a month, and that will be it unless I'm traveling.

Fast-food franchisees in California fear they'll lose customers to Chili's and Applebee's as prices soar over $20 wage

    • Fast-food franchisees in California fear diners will flock to Chili's and Applebee's to avoid price hikes.
    • Limited-service restaurants are raising prices to offset the state's $20 wage for fast-food workers.
    • As a result, the price gap between fast-food and casual dining restaurants could narrow.

Putting aside how California is already expensive as it is, people are still gonna go to fast food places purely because they don’t like cooking and they wanna just stay at home, or get something to go quickly.

I agree. I don't think they have anything to worry about. They'll raise their prices another 10% and we'll still hit those drive-throughs.

If I can get away with lunch somewhere for 20 or $25 I feel like I've done all right. When you basically have to pay about $18 to have a decent lunch at fast food.... I'll just go on ahead and spend the extra few dollars to go somewhere and eat.

How on earth is your food so expensive given how low your wages are? I can get a decent lunch for $AU20 or less, which is $US13 AND know that the person serving me is being paid a decent wage without needing to beg for tips. Same inflation rate too, so you can't blame that. Sounds like you guys are getting screwed over. I hope the stuff you are eating is better than the food I've had in the US - nothing there worth that sort of money.

Time to for you to blame Biden I imagine.

in 10 years they will be talking about another min wage increase and people will be saying the same thing all over

it would be better if the min wage was tied to Congresses Cost of Living increases, so we had more frequent rises, and not bigger ones less often

Or, one could pack a sandwich, a piece of fruit, and a bottle of water from the tap.

They aren’t, anyone spending $25 for a meal in the states and acting like it is a “deal” is an <insert your favorite adjective>

Lunch items can be had for around $10-$15 bucks, even with tip those don’t add up to $25. Me and my partner routinely eat lunch at Chop House / Chilis / Longhorn / local restaurants and spend less than $25 on food.

And yes, we are also getting screwed over. Our cost for fast food is higher than other comparable nations. So are our pharmaceutical costs, healthcare costs, childcare costs, internet and cellular costs — Americans have zero of their priorities right.

Yeah, as much as we complain we’ll eventually end up going to Mickey Ds or Burger King or Sonic at some point when we have a day where just don’t wanna do anything.

Fast food relies on 3 pillars for its business model:

    1) fast service. People needing a quick meal on their way to work or school

    2) Cheap: affordable, the restaurant go-to, particularly appealing to the lower class.

    3) Taste: crap food but tasty nonetheless

As it stands, 2 of those 3 pillars are broken/breaking.

And now many of them are on a doom loop whereby as the continue to cut staff their service goes down all while prices go up, driving people away, losing revenue from it which further encourages rising prices and cutting staff until they finally go out of business

It's not only California. I live in Kentucky. You can go out to dinner at a real restaurant for the same price as it costs to eat at McDonalds. The left has made it impossible for the poor to eat fast food anymore.

Did you think the poor spend their limited resources on fast food at McDonalds?

Reading all this, I very honestly cannot remember the last time I ordered anything to eat in a 'fast-food' place. Two years ago when I was on an unusually long drive I remember going into McDonald's for a big cup of coffee to go, but for anything to eat? Years....

Long ago I discovered that the many different kinds of food -- at low prices -- that you can find in the enormous frozen-food sections of supermarkets are no longer horrible (like they were many years ago). And if you've got access to a refrigerator and a decent microwave oven, what do you need to go and empty out your wallet in some fast-food restaurant for...? :confusion:

Not just California. A Cheeseburger with fries at Applebee' in Florida is cheaper than Big Mac meal at McDonalds.

Fast food is expensive because people are willing to pay the price. They don't even want to get out of their cars to get their meal. They get it served in the car, and then they eat is on their couch watching TV, and they think its worth every penny. To each his own. Its garbage food at a rip off rate, but people pay and business is booming. There are long lines to fast food joints.

Some people love to pretend things are worse than they are. I posted screen prints form Applebee's actual menu, and you can get a decent lunch for $12.00.

You can buy a 5lb leg of lamb (from Australia) for $20 from Costco, or ribs at $2.00 per pound. Both are fun to cook in a smoker.
