Good. Perhaps crazy folks in TN won't choose a school as their reserved hunting grounds anymore.

I suspect much of the lefty pearl-clutching over this devolves from childish assumptions too many are too eager to jump to. Armed teachers like my daughter are not trained to be cops on patrol or soldiers hunting down the enemy. They are not intended to replace armed security or locked doors or a school resource officer, but rather serve as a supplement to the primary security infrastructure. Armed teachers represent the final phase of the "Run, Hide, Fight" doctrine. They are the last resort, not the first. At my daughter's school, the plan consolidates students into one or more designated secure rooms, with multiple armed staff prepared to repel an active shooter should he successfully breach the barricade. Only now, teachers are able to function as more than human shields awaiting the slaughter.

To those opposed: don't you wish a program like that had been active at Uvalde, Sandy Hook, VA Tech, Sandy Hook, Columbine, Parkland, etc? If not, why?

Full disclosure: I've asked those questions multiple times on this board. To date, not a single lefty has had the balls to answer.

This could and should be debated quite extensively within the parameters of policy makers, school districts, teachers and parents.
It seems that even those trained to react during active shooters in a school failed to step up and do their duty.
    "
Florida deputy’s legal team says he didn’t have an obligation to stop Parkland school shooter"
one other example of neglectful response.

No. At my daughter's school - and in all of the similar programs I am aware of - it's strictly volunteer.

Would be shooters will just focus on another soft target, too many out there with too many easily accessible guns to protect them all.

Can not protect all the potential targets, nor guess who the next shooter will be, the only controllable variable is what makes it all possible, the gun

Which was an extremely wrong move by the volunteers. This can then be mandated later by school districts or other such duties that are not in their contract.
It seems that perhaps not all if any of the real severe scenarios were not given due diligence.
Lawsuits that might and will probably occur from this decision.
Pay them for an extra duty!

See: Uvalde Police Officer Ruben Ruiz. His wife Eva was teaching that day. When she texted him she'd been shot, Ruben - who was one of the first on scene - was disarmed and detained by his fellow police officers when he tried to rush to her aid. She's dead and he's a widower.

Police have no obligation to protect the citizens who pay for their services, and the courts have made that clear. See: Warren v. District of Columbia. "...no specific legal duty exists..." unless there's a special relationship between the officer and the individual. Someone in police custody, for example. Mrs. Ruiz wasn't in custody, so piss on her.

Wrong. The school board, along with the supervising law enforcement agency, drafted a separate policy governing & regulating the armed teacher program. It is a program unto itself, and has no impact on any other duties or responsibilities, like coaching, counseling, mentoring, etc.
There are hundreds of volunteer armed teacher programs that have been implemented nationwide over the last 20+ years, and not a single lawsuit has resulted. You're grasping at straws.

When policy and contracts are negotiated, even if there is a policy stated prior, then duties are assigned and taken on without contractual obligations that have been signed, this can then be used in "prior" practices.
Secondly, police have no real obligation to protect citizens.
Only individuals in the custody of police, that is when they are bound by obligation to protect that individual.
Piss on no one but those who refuse to confront the real problem of mass shootings.

Sound & fury signifying nothing. No duties have been assigned to anyone against their will. Volunteers stepped up on their own. If anyone felt they were being abused or being taken advantage of, litigation would have resulted. It hasn't, despite your prediction to the contrary.
Agreed. Not quite sure why you're repeating the same point, over and over.

Has she notified the parents of her students that she's armed? I would want to know that. Do you know if this law requires that parents be notified?

Only the principal and law enforcement know who the armed staff are (except for the resource officer of course, who is uniformed and carrying openly). Everyone knows the school is enrolled in the county's Guardian program, and that the armed staff are anonymous. Unless the fit hits the shan.

It is well established, once a duty has been accepted by others in rank and file it has the propensity to become contractual during the next negotiations.
The reason for trying to drive home the point...is ..individuals that seek and are employed for a specific reason, such as a police officer...does not have an obligation to "protect and defend". What logical reasoning is there to pass that obligation on to someone with minimal training? They are under contract for specific duties other than "protect and defend."
The governor of Tn is passing the responsibility to others that are not trained.
No matter how you try to convince someone that a few weeks of training are going to make the "difference.'
    Nice try!

That would not satisfy me as a parent. I would need to know whether or not my child's teacher was armed. I would not be surprised if that becomes a major issue with this new law.

They can do that now if they want. No teacher was waiting for this law to be passed so they could then commit murder.

This law gives teachers a chance against an armed intruder whereas before they had no chance. Sorry that doesn't fit with your pro mass shooting agenda.

At my daughter's school, your only option would be to take your kids out of the school. The premise of the anonymity is that if their identities are disclosed & become public, they could become targets.

In the panic and chaos of an actual live shooter event, do you really trust that all armed teachers will be able to handle themselves and not let any bullets go astray? Would you trust your child's life to that?

Before your question is answered. Here...

“Numerous law enforcement officers” have been shot in an “active situation” in Charlotte, North Carolina, police say.

“The scene is still active. Avoid the area. Many roads are closed for faster ambulance transport. Please cooperate with authorities,” the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said on X.

It is a semi knee-jerk reaction to the real problem. If more weapons in hands of people are to make people safer in society, with the number of weapons owned by private citizens in the USA, it should be the safest place in the world.
Seems the cause and affect does not fit the scenario this time.
This is the wrong way to solve the situation.
But, if they want to have educators weaponized make appropriate funds for those making the irrational mistake to carry a weapon, pay them a substantial salary.
The exact same salary they pay a full time police officer in the county/city!
But when it comes to compensation, so many don't want to pay for the service.

This will certainly give those anti-public education individuals more power to take away public education.

Couldn't disagree more. Teachers like my daughter have volunteered because they take the responsibility of protecting their students seriously. Not for the extra beer money.
That's just silly. They are categorically not police officers investigating crimes, pulling over DUIs, chasing down criminals, arresting domestic abusers, etc. They are teachers willing to be the last line of defense if the fit hits the shan. Just like I am at home with my .357 or my 12 gauge. I'm not entitled to a cop's salary anymore than my daughter is.

    did you read the article?

those who wish to carry must pass a psych and criminal check, must attend 40 hours of training

Incidentally, programs like the ones my daughter's school is enrolled in are subject to approval of the governing school boards or individual schools. My daughter spend the first 4 years of her career teaching at a public school. After a close call with a former student, she and about a hundred parents and a dozen other teachers lobbied the board to enroll that school in the county's armed response training. They were soundly rejected. A leaked email from a board member berated my daughter and those in favor as "neanderthals who need to be sterilized."

She has since moved onto a private school where where common sense has prevailed. I couldn't be happier she's where she is.

Then lets look at those who do not wish to carry firearms and during an active shooter situation and your daughter or another carrying educator shoots another mistaken them for a perpetrator because your daughter has had minimal training.
This is not some fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants solution.
And it is not silly to ask for being compensated when you are being asked to take on duties that police officers are given a salary.
Even seasoned officers make wrong decisions and never do any of those tasks you mentioned.
It is proof positive that when it comes to expending money for a solution suddenly it is about no compensation at all.
Maybe a better resolution would be metal-detectors at all entrances to any and all schools/public buildings.
    Think of that expense!
What a sad comment about the "freedoms" and problems the USA has compared to other civilized Nations.
To reiterate once more just reported today...
“The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force which is comprised of several agencies in the Charlotte area was attempting to serve a warrant” when shots were fired, according to another X post from the police department.

“Multiple law enforcement officers have been struck by the gunfire and are being transported to the hospital,” police said.
