If all they are doing is peacefully venting their anger and outrage, they should not be punished in any way. Marching, sitting, camping out on campus, chanting, shouting ... none of that is illegal aside from pitching tents, which is very minor trespassing since they aren't damaging structures, worthy of no more than a fine and/or community service.

If they are breaking things or stealing things, or they are using violence against counterprotesters, then they should be indicted and prosecuted.

As many military strategists have said, no battle plan survives contact with the enemy. The problem (from one who has been there and done that) with even the most organized protests is that chaos ensues, often due to outside agitators with more extreme agendas, or thugs and nincompoops using the opportunity to smash and loot in the vicinity of a protest. Just look back a couple of years to the BLM marches. The actual protesters were not the biggest problem.

I think the better question is why are these colleges promoting marxism/progressive/tranny crap and why the hell would anyone want to go to these places? They've turned into a ****ing joke.

Thanks for a reasonable opinion. If you listen to MAGA, these protesters are all terrorists who need to be thrown in jail or worse. Of course, their opinion is formed by their disdain for Muslims and academia, a perfect combination. In reality, I've been in academia for decades and have encountered many Muslim students, but not a single violent one. On my campus, the protests, so far, have been peaceful. Who knows, however, what will happen if outside agitators come in....

Freedom of speech you say? They deface and destroy property. They block minority students (Jews) from their scheduled classes. Blocking minority students got a pretty bad rap in the early 60's. Why are you for it now?

The Jew haters are going to target the DNC convention.
    This could be interesting.

Anti-Israel groups accuse Chicago, DNC of trying to ‘protect’ Biden from protests at 2024 Dem convention

A coalition of anti-Israel agitators seeking to protest outside the Democratic National Convention in August are continuing to put pressure on the City of Chicago, alleging their First Amendment rights are being violated, while some Democrats fear unrest could disrupt the annual convention.
    …………
Members of the coalition previously vowed to protest "with or without" permits outside the convention.

They are retaliating to violent pro Israel thugs provocation and violence. Originally the protests were legal yet the media and hasbara still had their panties in a twist. Pro Israel supporters and lobby groups are the biggest threat to freedom of speech in America and we all know it.

Also Jewish ppl are white europeans, they are the majority ruling party and control all aspects of American society, facts.

A masked pro-Israeli group assaulted a pro-Palestinian student camp, before officers were called to the campus.

Governor Gavin Newsom's spokesperson said the "limited and delayed" police intervention was "unacceptable".

Hundreds of police swarmed the campus early on Wednesday morning after more than two hours of fighting.

State officials and university leaders have said they immediately deployed security personnel to the tent camp on Dickson Plaza when clashes erupted just before midnight on Tuesday.

But several people on site said law enforcement did not act quickly enough.

"Law enforcement simply stood at the edge of the lawn and refused to budge as we screamed for their help," UC Divest at LA, a group involved in the encampment, said in a statement.

The BBC has contacted UCLA and LAPD for a response.

The university declared the pro-Palestinian encampment, in the shadow of its Royce Hall, an illegal gathering on Tuesday.

Footage online shows that, as midnight approached on Tuesday, a large pro-Israeli group donning black outfits and white masks arrived on campus and attempted to dismantle barriers.

Campers, some wearing goggles and helmets, and others carrying placards and umbrellas, rallied to defend their makeshift space.

Dylan Winward, a reporter with the Daily Bruin student newspaper, said the counter-demonstrators had thrown objects including "fireworks, a scooter, water bottles and tear gas".

The Bruin also said on social media that four of its reporters had been assaulted and sprayed with an irritant early on Wednesday morning by attackers who recorded the incident on their mobile phones.

"Tonight they escalated to a whole new level, they started inciting violence," one pro-Palestinian student activist told the BBC.- BBC.co.uk

You said the pro hama people were retaliating against Jewish thugs. The story you posted occurred just a few days ago, the threats, intimidation and assaults against Jews has been going on for months and is happening nationwide.

There had been no violence until the pro Israel thugs started beating the protesters with bats a few days ago.

    Bull.

    The issue is Israeli policy.

Large numbers of Jews in Israel oppose Israeli policy, and more specifically want Netanyahu out of office.

The whole idea of hiding Israeli policy behind a religion is absolutely detestable.

It's disgusting to see Netanyahu try to do that with his own religion!

    True, but what's your point?

The fact is that it is Israeli policy that is the problem, not Judaism or those who are Jewish by birth.

And, in the case of Gaza, the USA has monumentally dirty hands, as for decades we have supported the Israeli war on Gaza.

Opposing that US policy of supplying Israel with the bombs to drop on civilians and to politically protect Israel for doing so does not mean an American is anti American or anti Christian or any other claim of that sort.

    LOL. Try to make sense.

And by the way, the IDF has lost. Israel can not claim any objective they have set out to accomplish.

Now, they want to slaughter the occupants of Rafah, as if constant bombing wasn't enough.

I wonder what sort of military background you have when you claim the Israel is losing. Perhaps you need to live up to your handle and actually start reading more

I stand by what I said.

There are plenty of analysts who hold that analysis. Read anything by Scott Ritter, a significant national defense analyst.

    Or, propose your own.

Israel has lost the support of significant portions of the world. They have failed to degrade the fighting force defending Gaza. They are losing the support of the USA as we tell Netanyahu to stop the genocide and end the notion of invading Rafah.

They can not win by slaughtering civilians. All they can do is reinforce their position of being a pariah.

I don' think Israel really worries if neo Nazis in the USA and marxists in some other countries don't like them. People like you calling what they are doing "Genocide" is so pathetically hyperbolically hysterical that we cannot take your claims seriously

and I don't for a minute think 99% of those who are NOT Islamists in this country, who are whining about Israel give a flying fig about the Palestinians. Those people are nothing more than facades for anti semitic, anti US and other pathologies

If they simply protested, no punishment.

If they menaced, trespassed, assaulted, battered, obstructed, destroyed property, then whatever the criminal sanctions provide. If they violated campus rules that call for expulsion, expel them. If they are here on student visas and expelled, they need to be deported.

These polls are why Dems are suddenly sending the police in, that they previously defunded, to stop the rioting, these riots are not working for the Democrat Party

If everyone polled had been to israel and/or not been brainwashed by the fake news, those polls would likely be reversed. I've been to that shithole twice and I'm not going back.
