I can't read the op article. Personally I'm okay with marriage 16 plus in these conservative areas as long as the kids are both a similar age. Many are religious and it might take away some of the stigma and shame that demographic might feel raising a child unmarried. They do seem to knock 'em up young there!

By the way age of consent is 16 in Australia as long as one of the individuals isn't under the tutorship or care or employment of the other. So makes sense that they should be able to marry that age if they want. I'm not approving or condoning anything. It's just a reality...

If a child is impregnated voluntarily and is 16 or over and her partner is approximately the same age, to tell them they can not get married makes NO sense. If the pregnancy was caused by rape including statutory rape (i.e., the other partner was 60) or there was evidence of a coerced marriage then I would say no marriage. However in this case, if both couples are consenting and the parents consent it should be legal.
