It is common for Baptists to be against drinking entirely. That has been the case for every Southern Baptist church I've encountered, including the one I grew up in and every one everyone in my family has attended. Hence the joke. Hell, this is even a common concern for weddings in these parts.
I sense a guilty conscience. Some people cannot drink because it turns them into instant *******, makes them mean, or is just a comfortably numb escape from all the BS in the world. Hope that’s not the case with you and I was just reading between the lines, ineffectively.
It's in the charter of most Baptist churches. Most people don't bother to read it before joining but its usually posted on the wall.
This is simply untrue. No, most Baptist churches don't post anything about alcohol on their walls. And most of the time when they talk about it, it's to say that drinking is a sin.

I don't even drink wine and beer. Unless it is a "real" wine - one that was made like in antiquity and doesn't get you drunk. Normal wine dumb me down and makes me feel bad, so I don't drink it. Same with beer - my brain stops. I do, however, like vodka. But there was no vodka in Jesus time, so I don't know what to make of it. No whiskey, can't handle all those additional flavors and aromas. Just pure (vodka) spirit. Well, it is an escape from the shyteness of this world, yes. What's wrong with that?
I can't prove "most" churches do this but I googled church charter and found this. It's like a mission statement and it's posted on the wall of most churches I've attended. This is an example.
Yep, my church has this on our wall. I actually didn't know it was a Baptist thing to have the charter on the wall.

Definitely not. Especially since there was no way, at the time, to prevent grape juice from becoming wine.
The wine in question was never grape juice, - Jesus turned water into wine, not water into grape juice, which then turned into wine. You need yeast to turn juice into wine.
Your body being dependent on food is fine. You being emotionally, spiritually, or addictely dependent on food to the point it is unhealthy, is not fine. God says to take care of your body.
Many things can cause cancer - asbestos, sugar, meat, plastic bottles, car exhaust, synthetic clothing, you name it. Alcohol surely can cause cirrhosis however, that's without a doubt.
I would say that drinking within reason is not a sin but being an out and out drunk is not very good. I typically stay away from liquor but I drink more beers than you should. It has been over a decade since I have drank any less than a four pack of tall boys a day. Maybe that's why I got such a belly? And I'm sure I'm not doing my liver any favors. On my day off I can drink an 18 pack easily but you are talking about all day and all night. I'll get a buzz but I have to work at it for quite a while.... Which is how I like it to be. If I wanted to go from 0 to 60 drunk in a half hour or an hour I would drink liquor. Like the Fable of the old Bull and the young bull sitting on top of the hill..... Young bull says let's run down there and screw one of them cows. Old bull says no let's walk down there and screw all of them. It's like young bull says let's run down that Hill and drink this fith of liquor and the old bull says no let's walk down the hill and drink the case of beer. I have known drunks much worse than myself but I won't deceive myself and say that I'm not at least a moderate drunk myself. But I'm functional enough that I guess there's not enough consequences from drinking to motivate me to quit. I would probably do myself a favor if I at least cut way back and became a pothead instead. I do like a little reefer but I'd much rather have a beer than a joint.

I have heard it said and I believe it is true.... Never trust a man without a vice. It's like you don't drink or smoke? Do you do anything you shouldn't do? Are you just raw dogging life? Lol. I know drinking too much isn't good but compared to some of the addictions I have kicked in my life, I don't lose sleep over it. I am perfectly okay with who I am. I have gone to AA meetings in the past and my biggest beef with them is their whole philosophy that you are powerless over alcohol. No the hell you are not, it's a choice.... Just like making excuses for yourself that it's beyond your control is a choice. I quit smoking cold turkey for about a year and a half and then pick them back up like a dummy. Quitting was a choice just like picking them back up was.
Yeah, I can't deal with the AA crowd, despite quitting. They are too hung up on their bad experiences, and I don't think that's healthy or sustainable. I quit by focusing on my good experiences, not my bad ones. I quite because I liked who I was when I was sober, not because I hated who I was when I was drunk. And I am fine with who my friends and family are when they are drunk. My wife is even hotter than usual with a Scotch in her. I still smoke my occasional cigar and I am quite fond of my edibles. I'd be into shrooms if they weren't such a time commitment. Some weekends I just like to get high, stare at grass, grill a bit, and watch kaiju movies. And listen to bluegrass/zydeco.
From some sort of scientific source..... Ethanol is rapidly oxidised by the body to carbon dioxide and water, with no cumulative effect. Concentrations below 1000 parts per million (ppm) usually produce no signs of intoxication. I prefer to stay at concentrations above 1,500 parts per million.
Okay Mr dirty rotten fella,.. this is the second time that you have unequivocally declared that. I have never heard that Ethel alcohol is a carcinogen. It's not great for your health and I know it can cause cirrhosis of the liver..... But where is your evidence that it is a carcinogen?
