Judge Gives Trump Final Warning: Jail Is Next

Almost as bad as the statement he got fined today for huh. Glad we agree the dumbassery of this court knows no bounds. What a joke.

 

Just raise the Fine for each violation to $1 Million...

I think they would do that, i.e. put him in jail for contempt. In part, it's because this isn't a political process at all. He may be getting some soft handling for his background, but a court will put him in jail for contempt if necessary, regardless of political benefit or harm.

 

It works the same way in the mafia. The like minded respect you more if you do time.

 

But the problem with jailing him is that for his followers, it WOULD make it political. I think the judge knows this and he also knows it would martyr him in this trial.

I think the judge realizes this, which is why he just keeps fining him the maximium of $1k per instance and he knows that wont dent Trump even a little bit. For those of us who see this for what it is, we realize that this isn't political, but the righties honestly think this is political persecution because they refuse to see Trump as anything but a martyr for them. They really believe that he is them, and that they are him. Its the old adage: "The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist."

 

If you agree with Trump's attitude, you agree that a defendant can intimidate a prosecution witness in his trial.

I think the judge is being extra careful to make sure he can justify what he does, but he will follow the law. The law does not allow witness intimidation. The $1K per instance is a matter of giving fair warning, rather than going from nothing to a serious step like jail. I think the most recent violations occured prior to him threatening jail time, but he has now said that violations in the future will result in jail time. I expect that, if the violation is definite and not on the lines, he will put him in jail. Perhaps not for long, but some.

 

The judge put himself in a box. At this point he won't have much choice but to jail him. That will help Trump and hurt the prosecution in a big way. We shall see if he has the nerve to do it. One thing we must all understand is that the basis of political prosecution is politics.

 

There isn't a law that says Trump cannot talk. In fact the constitution says he can. The judge is not avove the constitution.

For sure. But the way the system works is this. The judge has the power to issue a gag order, even an unconstitutional one. It has to be obeyed and then straightened out after the trial in appellate court. So the judge is within his rights to jail him if he has the nerve to do it.

Understand that the whole point of this prosecution is to hurt Trump's candidacy. The prosecutors don't really care what the verdict is. They care that they can hurt his campaign before the election. The fly in the ointment is that the public is on to them and the prosecution is helping Trump. Jailing him would help him a lot politically. The judge made a mistake. The smart move on his part would be to gag everybody and amend the order to release people to talk about things that don't occur in the trial. Then the order would be constitutional and would neither help nor hurt Trump but perhaps save some of the judge's credibility. Trump is going say what he wants to say no matter what the judge does. We know that.

Obviously incorrect. The years of work to make it happen occurred mostly when it was unknown whether he would be the nominee again. One would think they wouldn't re-choose the loser, let alone one facing charges, but republicans work in mysterious ways.

 

If the rule of law were being applied, this trial wouldn't be happening.

As to the topic, putting Trump in jail will boost his poll numbers. So, FAFO.

I think you are suffering from some partisan naivete. What could be more obvious than the political nature of this prosecution or the one in Georgia for a fraud that defrauded nobody.
