The news did not got here yet? There are riots in London over a death of a black man... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2011/aug/07/tottenham-riots-police-duggan-live
London has been burning for days now, btw... There was an incident where a man was shot. Some said he shot at the Police first, but the details are debatable. People rioted over it, I think it started last Thursday. Then there was a protest march on Saturday which erupted and the centre of Tottenham (shops and peoples homes above the shops, Council building etc) were burned. Two Police cars also, which were parked 200 metres from the local nick. Anyway, it's still ongoing but the Police say the latest riots are copycat, just people looking for trouble and nothing to do with the original incident. Having seen the videos, they do look like a bunch of kids who just want a carry on. You can't really know what happened, the Police are not commenting until the inquiry is complete. You have to wonder though. People said the dead man was not violent, although he was into some things. Perhaps there is some injustice at work, but we don't know. There used to be race riots in England fairly regularly a few years back and it really was quite bad. Usually when the weather breaks though, everyone goes home. People are hoping it doesn't disintegrate into anything like that and the family of the dead man have said they don't condone this violence.
I've been reading about the North London riots and they seem to have been carried out by a Rainbow Coalition of blacks, whites and even some asians; also mostly by young men but with some women and older folks mixed in. It's a bit annoying to see people try and project the racial politics of the United States on a different country and without bothering to discover if the comparison really is a good fit.
Well, the news has been characterizing this as racially connected (including the BBC), so I guess they've been reporting this inaccurately.
Never trust the BBC. They have their own agenda. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...ts-for-staffing-will-backfire-on-the-BBC.html
It is really bad. They've set cars and a bus on fire and it spread to buildings again today. The Police are there, but the teenagers are carrying on regardless burning bins and looting and generally vandalising everything. The poster who said it's mixed race is right. It's groups of teenagers and eye witnesses have said they are of all denominations, white, black, asian etc. The initial protest was about the black man who was shot, but it's not about that now. They are just kids taking advantage of the situation, because they can. The Police are there in numbers and they have the dogs, but they can't catch the little feckers. They're too fast and half of them are on cycles. If only the top policemen hadn't resigned over the Rupert Murdoch issue...
Well... the Telegraph does as well. Admittedly, cross-referencing is the best approach, and I try to do that when possible.
The Police horses are there now. No doubt they will sort them out, alongside the dogs. But this rioting started around 17:00 and it's now 20:35. They took their time mobilising the horses. Another house is on fire.... It doesn't fill you with confidence over the policing of the Olympic Games next year, does it?
Not really. I've been watching it intermittently since 17:00 and although they have my sympathy for a difficult job, the Police have been useless. I don't know what happened with the horses, because the cameras are now focused on a furniture shop which has been set on fire in Croydon. It's really ablaze and looks like it might spread. There is a fire engine on site, but the building is going up like a bonfire.
I'm not calling you a Dhimmi, but did you miss the bit where shooting with normal ammo was the entire cause of the riots in the first place?
Time to start passing out the tasers, guns and amno. And all those Countries like England, France, etc brought it on themselves. The Crusaders are spinning in their graves. "Shooting with normal amno is the CAUSE of the riots? In what world?
A thug was killed. Risky job. Those who riot do not riot because a person was shot but because it is convenient for items and exciting. People riot because the chance of being caught is slim, the punishments are laughable. And it increases the respect of the gangs by participating.
Tear gas tends to be more effective because it's an area effect. There are plenty of non-lethal ways to deal with rioters that are actually more effective than lethal means.
I agree that minorities jumped at the chance of a riot. However, what interests me is the fact that he was shot by police when 99% of the police are unarmed. This indicates that the deceased was being followed by CO19, which is a specialised armed unit of the Metropolitan Police. So, it's not an accident that they were there, he was a person of interest. With regard to the rioters, the police learned a lot from the problems that arose a number of years ago at soccer matches. They will be filming all this criminality and charges will follow, even if it takes months to initiate arrests.
Most of the areas affected have a high black or asian population, but you're right, a good few whites seem to be involved.
