It seems all we get these days from Barack Obama is needless talk and familiar excuses. Six members of his economic team have resigned, and the economy and our unemployment rate is just as bad today as it was the first day he assumed office as our president.

Given Obama’s propensity to talk and do absolutely nothing, who can blame Council of Economic Advisers head Austan Goolsbee for picking this week "to quit the administration and retreat back to his tenured university post in Chicago."

Obama has now been out president for 32 months and he has yet to come up with a workable plan or a list of solutions to solve our economic problems. And during this time, what it is that he actually given us? Unfortunately, the only things he and his administration have given us are “another decline in home values, a new dip in consumer confidence and, just last week, the lowest manufacturing-sector growth rate in more than a year and a dismal payroll report showing job growth far below expectations.”

With the economy sputtering again, it has become very evident to almost everyone Washington has no plans to rescue the economy. It seems as if all Obama can do these days is brush away our worries of a double dip recession and blame all of his problems on the Republicans and temporary "headwinds" from such factors as the”Japanese-nuclear-disaster-related supply shocks and higher gas prices and the fact that for some unexplained reason the new recovery was proving to be "uneven" and "frustratingly slow."

Red-herrings won't work. Obama has very little control over economic growth unless he is allowed to spend money... which he isn't.

So until Obama can spend money like other President's had the luxury too, we will continue this downward slide in to a depression. Simple mathematics, which you clearly do not understand or simply do not want to understand.

Yea, that's definitely the problem, it's the rich not the government.
Obama can't fix the economy because the question is a non sequitur, no one can fix the economy, and government is the problem, not the solution.

    You are funny, Montoya!

All you ever do in these discussion threads is repeat and practice the politics of “class envy".

Please do some good reading for a change and come up with a more interesting subject that contributes something of value to the discussions.

Didn't I already point out to you that this is not the President's job? Why are you posting the same thread with a new skin on it?

Or maybe I am wrong. Please explain to me the job of the President in regards to solving economic problems, because I thought business should run itself... yet you seem to expect Obama to do something, right???

    You are very mistaken, akphidelt.

Especially when you say, "Obama has very little control over economic growth unless he is allowed to spend money... which he isn't."

Obama and his team are also very wrong if they actually think we can buy our way out of all this. And here is why.

Because when you pursue policies that intentionally drive up the cost of labor, energy, and products in America during a severe downturn you aren't doing yourself any favors.

Again, you are very mistaken, akphidelt.

These are not my words; these are the words of Rana Foroohar, an award-winning and well-respected author for Time Magazine.

Time Magazine is a very liberal magazine, I might add.

These discussion confirm what you have just said and the wisdom you have expressed.

    You are mistaken, jmpet.

Other Republican presidents have solved our economic problems and successfully brought us out of a recession.

It they have done it , and if Bill Clintron has done it, why on earth can't Barack Obama do it?

    Check this out!

Why has this econoimc downturn, which began in December 2007, lasted longer than other economic downturns? Until now the longest postwar recessions were those of 1973-5 and 1981-2, which each lasted 16 months.

The answer is simple. Businesses have responded negatively to the weakness of household demand. "Although large firms continue to have very substantial cash on their balance sheets, their cash flow from current operations fell in the first quarter. The most recent measure of orders for nondefense capital goods signaled a continuing decline in business investment."

Furthermore, we can blame the Democrats for the very poor outlook for millions of new jobs. Obamacare does not kick in until 2014. Many small businesses have indicated they will postpone hiring decisions until then when the true cost of employee health care becomes much more clearly defined.

Obama could fix the Economy almost overnight.By reducing the
corporate tax rate, putting a moratorium on Capital Gains and
reducing payroll taxes and repealing the many harmfull regulations he
feels makes him a big man.
Obama is belligerently doing everything to keep from being compared
to Bush and his economic policy.
It boils down to being an obstinate person unwilling to try the
Republican Economic approach, the one Bush used to overcome an
Inherited Clinton Recession in 2000 in less than a years time.

Unfortunately, Obama wants to continue his policies of two years ago that have already failed. Let’s face it. As a result of his childish belligerence, the "emperor" has been shown to have no clothes!"

After three years, Barack Obama and George Bush have become quite identical in their policies and their differences have become very minor! They ignore Congress when it comes to their war policies and they both think they can spend their way back into national economic prosperity. Obama, like Bush, has increased the power of the NSA, he has broadened the scope of warrantless wiretapping of Americans and both have done nothing to scale back and limit the abuses of the Patriot Act. Obama is clearly the greatest authoritarian and one of the phoniest and most insincere presidents we have ever had.

The liberals in this group cannot bring themselves to admit Barack Obama is a liberal elitist. Obama has been given everything all of his life. Other people (William Ayers) have even written his books for him. Obama has never understood the principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity.

These is a distinction between "hate" and the truth.

But then, I wouldn't expect you to understand this important difference.

Because he is a puppet to special interests who control the media - there seem to be TWO economies: one for special interests who would not be proffiting so much if our second, people's economy would be thriving. people need to find a way to select politicians without the influence of special interest media, and I know a way, but I am not allowed to mention it, neither does anyone care really.

    You are very correct, peoplevsmedia.

Your remarks are very sincere, directly to the point and well crafted!

Wise words by Bill Clinton: "It’s true that our corporate rates are the second-highest in the world[/B]. But it’s also true that what our corporations actually pay is nowhere near the second-highest percentage of their real income in the world. So I’d be perfectly fine with lowering the corporate tax rates, simplifying the tax code, and saving some money on accountants, but broadening the tax base so that all of them pay a reasonable amount of tax on their profits. That’s what the Bowles-Simpson commission recommended, and it’s the right policy. Lower the rates to be competitive, but reduce the loopholes that cause unfair disparities. We all need to contribute something to help meet our shared challenges and responsibilities, including solving the debt problem."

He and the Democrats spent $840 Billion dollars in 1 year to fix it, far more then the Bush Tax cuts over 9 years. We are taking them at their word that it would fix the economy. We're still waiting.......

Because fixing the economic problems was never his goal. "Never let a crisis go to waste."

The economic problems can be used by the liberal Democrats to double the size of government for a new base, double the debt, give us a government of socialist czars, raise taxes, and take over private businesses. How do you keep the economy struggling? Well, you constantly threaten to raise taxes on business people, you continue to expand regulations to attack businesses and jobs, and you keep as many unemployed people from looking for work as you can. Oh, and you promise endless secret plans.

If you are beholden to lobbyists and the financial sectors that created the problem and do their craven bidding how on earth can any politician be part any solution. That is like asking a room of whores what to do about the prostitution problem as their Pimps tell them what to do.

What is Obamacare. That is forced Healthcare payments for a lot
of what Obama wants Federal influence over.Forcing Citizens to
have Healthcare so Obama can use his Obamacare and graft
Nanny State solutions care of Federal Government agencies/workers.

    You are very correct, Foolardi.

akphidelt, as usual, has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

Especially when he says, "Obama has very little control over economic growth unless he is allowed to spend money ... which he isn't."

In fact, Obama has promised to reveal his new plan this September on how he intends to speed up job growth and resuce the economy! He can't spend more money this time because there is no more money to spend!

"The senior official spoke with the AP on the condition of anonymity, but said all of Obama's proposals would be new ones rather than a rehash of previous jobs and economic improvement plans he has pitched."

    Check this out.
