Its to be taken in context, not as you wish to view it.
It was argued that a teacher speaking out against homosexuality creates conflict in the classroom.
We can therefor conclude that a homosexual teacher better not voice pride in his sexual orientation, or be fired, as the heterosexual teacher is for voicing his opinion, or else create conflict. That means, no engaging in gay pride parades, or any activism...
Or, we allow both freedom of speech outside the classroom.
Perhaps that clears it up for you.
    The conversation went from there.

Any student or Teacher or anyone can be held responsible for their words and opinions if posted on the internet.

Yo, you BRAINHEAD idiots.... any and all stuff you post on the internet is FOREVER and DOCUMENTED as being YOU!!!!

I would make a point to have that teacher, regardless of assigned subject, be opposed on the first day of class by many kids in the class as to the stupid post...

The internet is no different than shouting it at a meeting... and maybe the teacher should be gone if for no other reason than not knowing that simple fact. DOH!!!

The last desperate hope of a debater.

Not by me. You claimed this post refutes something I said. Pay attention to context remember?

You really need to read more carefully. You said that post refutes something I said. I NEVER used an argument to target a teacher for dismissal under the laughable guise that it creates conflict. I argued the exact opposite.

    Quoting myself:

So you inaccurately attributed a stance I not only never made but argued against.

    Nicely done /sarcasm :date:

Can you cite anything that backs up this statement? Any law that states public teachers have no right to post on the internet their personal beliefs?

Do you have any idea how stupid that makes you look?

Freedom of speech is important, regardless whether its against homosexuality, or against Christianity.
What I am certain of is, that if the scenario were reversed, and what I agree with Serfin on, is that the same who argue against this teacher being fired would cheer.
What is being discussed is not about you or your statement about the school or teacher, but about you calling me a lib.

    From the article:

And I fully agree. If a teacher is known member of the KKK, then that person has no business teaching.

    This teachers comments:

This is beyond disagreeing with gay-marriage, this is hate. And a school teacher has no business in the business of hatred.

This also sums why religion and that nonsense is so dangerous in today’s society. All is breads is intolerance and hate.

    From the article:

When you start using terms like 'cesspool' for a group of people you clearly oppose, that is hate speech.

Its not hate, its sticking up for what you believe in. Just because you disagree with it, doesn't make it bigoted, hateful or intolerant.
As long as its anti Christian and liberal and homosexual, all is well? Where is the tolerance and love for those who just happen to be straight, heterosexual and Christians?
Let me ask again, if a gay teacher would write that gay marriage is fine, and he doesn't believe in God, and those who disagree can unfriend him, should he be fired for being hateful, bigoted and intolerant?

I'm not sure one could uncontestably call that hate, albeit it is somewhat radical but not sure if it is hate. I don't think there is enough to remove the teacher from their job, although the teacher could get a warning about such speech. But because the details are opaque, it is difficult to judge.

When you use terms such as 'cesspool', that is hate.

If this person would have said "Being a christian, I oppose what New York is doing in respects to gay marriage blah blah", there wouldn't be a problem. We are all entitled to our opinions.

Its not what he said, its the way he said it. And a person in his position, should be careful on HOW he says things.

Anyone can post anything on anywhere, but then they have to face the crap they earned based on their decision to be free. It is as though you decide to be free by going naked on some beach and then complain when all your potential partners decide you are not big enough for them to waste their time on you.

Regardless of the content, once you post the crap online, you are forever identified and bound by it regardless of any law. Sorry.

I think you might be a recommended teacher to talk to students about the internet and how it can harm them and about those who chose to go internationally and eternally public with their private sexual stuff and how it can impact them.

Hope I gave you some good niche's for getting a new job. Good Luck!

All "is breads" is the unavoidable side-effect of free speech and free religious practice.

The guy shouldn't have been fired for making comments in private. I fail to see how it wouldn't be oppressive to force teachers to shut up and stay moderate about anything controversial in the privacy of their own social lives. As much as I agree that his comments were hateful, and as much as I disagree with them (and believe me, I do), firing the teacher only lets the conservatives sit back and say that they were right all along about the liberal fascists. And you know what? Maybe they were, this time.

    umm

it's about speech and selective outrage by liberal thought police.

If the teacher said "hey, this whole marriage thing between same sexes is just swell" I don't think he would be confronted by the school system. It's still voicing his opnion however it toes the liberal line, thus, no foul.

But, that is not the case here. A teacher with a stellar record posted something during summer break on his FB page using his home computer. Where he went wrong is that it's anti same sex marriage. His opinion differs from the liberal opinion and thus he is now in hot water.

Oh, it's plain as day the hypocricy and double standards.

Its hatred to claim that marriage is defined as a union between a man and a women and this teacher claimed that per his religious beliefs, he feels that the state of New York is disgracing his beliefs with their role into the matter?

    Where is the hate?

Just because somebody doesn't believe the same as you doesn't make their opinion hate based.

    LOL

So you can rip on peoples faith as "dangerous" and "nonsense" and that ISN'T hate, but claiming that gay marriage violates people religious beliefs IS hate?

    Come on man.

    Use your noodle.

Kind of like peoples faith being "nonsense" and "dangerous"? Is that hate speech too?

Atheists refer to religion as being a cesspool. For example:

    http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=6147172660&topic=46396

Is it hate speech when atheists do it? Would you call for the firing of any atheist teacher that spoke this way about religion the way this teacher did about gay marriage? What about someone referencing the cess-pool of drug abuse or illegal immigration? How about a teacher commenting on the cess-pool in Washington DC?

Controlling what a person believes and says when they are not at work is not such a simple matter.

Do you have a copy of the entire statement he made. If so let's have a look as I have not found the full text. I said in an earlier post I did not know what he stated exactly. I have written throughout about hate speech and have not accused him of such.

Are atheist teachers posting on their facebook pages that religion is a cesspool?

When you find one, let me know. I'll say they need to go too. As teachers SHOULD NOT BE IN THE BUSINESS OF HATE.

When, as a teacher, you use the term 'cesspool' it is.

Am I teacher? Nope! I am computer program and I have not 'bond to a code of special ethics'.

    Nice try.

I stated three posts ago a proposal. There is nothing to defend. I proposed a situation. A hypothetical situation does not require defense.
It is not and idiotic claim it is about speech and hate. If in fact what the man said is hate and there are laws against it is neither liberal or conservative. It is law. When is it that you begin to understand what it is that you have read. I don't know how much more I can simplify my statements to get you to understand them.
If his students have access to his Facebook page than he is responsible for his actions if the law says so. This happened in Florida a more conservative state. Do you know the laws on hate speech in his county? Do you know the state laws? Do you know the rules that have been set up by the school system?
There is nothing to argue. You can't understand what you read. If you could these last posts would not even have been done. Would you prefer a different language that you have a better handle on? It's obvious English is way beyond your ability to comprehend.
