Most of the threads here start about an issue or candidate. Then after a few posts, they deteriorate into the usual petty name-calling on an individual or group basis. Oh well. At least sometimes, they're interesting for a while.

So extreme Left-Wingers don't really impress when it comes to things like unions, gun-ownership, Obama and ObamaCare. I'm not talking about Liberals - they can usually acknowledge that although they would like to see changes in laws, simply owning a gun isn't extreme; they often criticize Obama and Obama Care.
I'm talking about the Extreme Left that get's their every opinion fed to them by DailyKos or Rachel Maddow. They're often insult the poster and often never address the points. Once in a while, they assume someone disagreeing with them on a particular issue, must be a Conservative (as has been the case with me on half dozen occasions). And heaven forbid, you be someone who just isn't sure about Man-Made Global Warming! You're diagreeing with the majority of the world and therefore must be an idiot! Of course, if you're part of that 86% of the world that believes in God, then majorities have nothing to do with being right!
Then there are the Extreme Right-Wingers. Not those who aren't lost in social issues or can at least acknowledge killing OBL was a good thing. I'm talking about the whackjobs. They're even worse and much easier to spot. Obviously all their opinions are fed to them by FOX, Rush etc... They don't often insult posters - they always do. They don't occasionally label someone disagreeing with them as a Liberal, they always do.
Their definition of a Liberal is easy: Anyone disagreeing with them on anything. Hell, some can't even ackowledge that some of the whacky bullsh1t that comes out of Michele Whackmann's mouth could be wrong!
I've had a couple whackjobs here make it clear that they didn't care what my opinions were on political issues, they just "knew" I was some sort of Secret Agent Liberal!

Look, if your opinions are completely predictible on All Democrats, All Republicans, Taxes, The Bush Wars, The Obama Wars, ObamaCare, Abortion, Gay Marriage, Unions, Gun Control, Fed vs. States Rights, Domestic Drilling, Global Warming, Immigration etc... you might want to consider whether you are actually doing much thinking for yourself.
If you're some Liberal, Conservative, Libertarians or Tea Party sheeple whose every view comes straight out of the appropriate pamphlet, and who can't even acknowledge differing views, guess what? The only person you're impressing is the one typing at your keyboard. And maybe a few of those sheeple who follow the exact same shephard.

I can't see you as being "extreme left" if you support Ron Paul. I can see you as Left on social issues but not as an extreme overall.

Nothing wrong with that but I was using Liberal in the commonly understood / used sense which is employed today i.e. Pro Public Option, Unions, Affirmative Action etc...

Well that was a brilliant response! Or maybe it was f*cking dumb. Is it your assertation that people who support unions, abortion, public option, affirmative action etc... are NOT labeled as being "liberal" on this ofrum or in the media?
Or is it that only your definition from the Little Libertarian Library of Cool Catch Phrases, is valid?

    Agreed.

It's one thing to identify with a broadly defined ideology, it's an entirely different thing to become dogmatically immersed in a political party. This can limit your view quite a lot, and force you to take stances that you don't actually agree with.

The political left today is for welfare, economic controls and high taxes. You are supporting the political opposite in Ron Paul. I don't think you are a leftist.

    You are very correct, Object227.

Here are some more interesting facts the Left doesn't want you to know about!

Listen very carefully to the words of Phil Donahue.

He sounds just like most of the liberals in this group who support Barack Obama!

The problem is that the middle ground which you seem to favor are all the same and work for the same people, and it is not the citizens of the United States. They work for the bankers and the corporations, so of course they like to perpetuate labels of "extreme right" or "extreme left," when really they are just "extremely corrupt."

Seems that we always end up with a social authoritarian, anti-constitutional, warhawk, fiscally insane president no matter what they say in their campaigns. The problem with the "extreme left" who thinks that we need more government control over everything is, as I've already stated, the government mostly works for the global corporations, so you would be handing more power over to the people who you assume the government would control.

Anyone who thinks that Obama does not work first and foremost for Wall Street is fooling themselves. All you have to do is look at all of the banking and corporate cronies he's appointed. His tough talk means absolutely nothing. We need someone to break the bond between the bankers and corporations and the government.

    Legalize freedom.
-Ron Paul 2012 - all else is more corporatism quickly become more like fascism.

And the political Right today is for complete invasion of private matters, restricting personal liberty, supporting Wall Street and Big Oil and starting wars.
Hmmm. Easy to label "the other side" without ever addressing an issue. Anyone can do that.
    Not impressive.

Did my post talk about Obama? Nope. About Perry? Bachmann? SpongeBob? Nope.
It talked only about those whose blind allegiance to a candidate or Party Pamphlet has them unable to disagree with a single thing their party or candidates say.
    Sheeple.
