It's hot and may be useful for more things that it is used for now but it is far from innovative.

It was used in nuclear reactors for a long time and one problem is that it is hard to cool if you have a leak or other trouble.
We have to have the will do do these sorts of projects in the US... and not quit and whine when the going gets tough.
The hawks and eagles are whining about wind power. They lose more than one hundred of their fellows each year to wind turbines and not one peep out of the federal government who is harassing oil drillers for killing 12 birds.

Obama will take from the rich and use the money to pay for electricity for the poor.

And since the poor are getting free electricity from President Zero they will have no reason to conserve.

So it will be only the middle class who are cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

Germany € 0.2671 = $ 0.3624 USD per kWh
Spain € 0.2013 = $ 0.2731 USD per kWh
So Cal Edison $ 0.08 per kWh

http://www.energy.eu/

Both Germany and Spain have aggressive solar programs. Even with huge subsidies look at how expensive it is. It's almost 4 time what I pay in So Cal.

Canadian crude is bituminen is so thick and sour that it won't flow thru a pipeline unless they purchase oil from the ME to mix with it and thin it out.

Did you miss the big Montana oil spill?

Dumb post. Do you not understand the word 'finite'? Oil is a finite resource; this means that in due course it will run out. What is your problem with investing in alternatives-or do you believe oil will magically regenerate? Perhaps your real problem is myopia?

For now there is plenty of oil and gas, but the US is the biggest consumer in the world... and as other countries develop a better standard of living, they will need more power, more oil and more gas too.

It is myopic NOT to develop other sources.

What an abject moron Obama is. There are already CNG vehicles available through Honda and Toyota.

Yet we sit on HUGE reserves of Natural Gas, Obama is buying hybrids and electric cars. What an abject moron.

Chevy Volt MSRP from $39,145

2012 Honda Civic GX Natural Gas priced from $26,155*

Toyota has a CGN Camry ready to go.

The operative words in your post are 'for now'...
Read this; High Noon for Natural Gas by Julian Darley, Chelsea Green Publishing Co., 2004. ISBN 1-931498-53-9

It isn't quite that simple. The Securities and Exchange Commission relies on ambiguous terminology for 'proven' and 'inferred' reserves. 'Inferred' equates to 'probable' and a 50% chance of that reserve being recoverable. You should read the book I recommended in my previous post.

We have proven reserves enough to last 100 years, that would tide us over till some new technology can be developed, which will NEVER happen with the economy the way it is. Hopefully, the American people will see the economic morons controlling the Senate and the White House need to go in Nov 2012.

As far as Julian Darley goes he's obviously one of those chicken little's of global warming and isn't worth a second look.

An oil reserve is an economic measurement.. based on quality, flow rates. price, market demand, ease of refining.. and NONE of the majors have ever reported their reserve figures.

I think the book to read is Daniel Yergin's new book.. QUEST.

Yeah, of course Peabody, ignore anything which either doesn't support your paradigm or considers an alternative, well-reasoned and researched point of view. That's really intelligent mate. Well done.

So, you want these reserves to 'tide you over' until some new technology can be developed? The time to begin developement is now, not when those reserves are running dry!

I don't believe the lib claims that they are worried about running out of oil.

Because they aren't.

What keeps the oil haters awake at night is that improving technology and new discoveries of oil keeps pushing the date when we could run out farther into the future.

Libs would be thrilled if the wells ran dry and no new wells were being drilled.

Because they have been traumatized by the man-made global warming hoax and they believe Hawaii will sink if we don't turn to solar power sooner rather than later.

That makes no sense at all.. NONE.

I see a whole lot of partisans who are really ignorant about the oil business fighting each other while others are working on emission reduction, higher efficiencies, new technology etc.

Oil isn't going anywhere.. but tar sands and shale oil are self serving fantasies.

US consumption has fallen slightly.. and the timing is right to diversify energy sources... even in small, localized ways.
