well now, the game is afoot. With this endorsement it is clear who will be facing "the one" in 2012. Liberals, your opponent now has a name

In what could be a game changer for Mitt Romney's 2012 bid, Chris Christie will endorse the former Massachusetts governor at an event in New Hampshire today.

According to the Romney campaign, the New Jersey governor will join Romney at a press availability at 3pm ET in Hanover, N.H—the site of tonight's Washington Post/Bloomberg Republican primary debate.

Christie's move comes just a week after he opted against his own bid for the GOP nomination.

While the governor declined to say last week when he might endorse in the contest, there have long been hints he might throw his backing to Romney.

Earlier this year, Christie held a dinner for Romney at the governor's mansion in New Jersey. He's also publicly defended Romney amid criticism over his health care reform efforts in Massachusetts.

The big question is whether social conservatives and tea party Republicans who had been hoping Christie would seek the nomination will now take a second look at Romney--just as the many of the donors who had been holding out for a possible Christie 2012 bid have now transferred their support to Romney.

I don't think that matters much. The people who liked Christie have different priorities than Romney.

Which is why it benefits Romney for Christie to endorse him....

its a bit early for high profile endorsements, but this isn't a surprise. Both Romney and Christie come from the more moderate Eastern element in the Republican party. Christie is undoubtely more comfortable with Romney than any other candidate (well maybe Huntsman gives him a thrill, but Huntsman is a non-starter).

This may actually harm Romney in the long run as it solidifies in the minds of early primary voters that Romney is a part of the Eastern establishment - in other words (anti-tea party and wishy washy on conservative issues). The voters in NH will probably like it, but the voters in IA, SC, and NV may not be so pleased.

People have tried to delude themselves over and over, but it's going to be Romney in the end.

Christie, as a sharp pol, knows this.

Of course fattie endorsed him. The mens' dumbass club faction in the repub party does not like Perry. :) And of course they announced it before the repub debate tonight.

For some reason, it doesn't bother them that Romney initiated health care in Massachusetts, just like the Obamacare they claim to despise. Hello?

A lot of the people are dumb, evidently, because they will let an endorsement tell them how to vote. Just like this faction of the repub party hopes for. Politics as usual. Dumb voting as usual.

That would be kind of embarrassing for the tea party.

I sort of feel for Romney. He's a marginally sane in an insane party, so to get the nomination, he has to act crazier than he is.

Christie can't help him. The Baggers know that Romney is only pretending to be a nut, so they won't nominated him.

    Bachmann will win!

I've meintained all along that only Pawlenty or Romney would be viable candidates to run on the Republican ticket; Christies endorsement only cements my belief.

They're both moderates. So they are liberal on different issues, but liberal with out a doubt. Will we have anything different than we had for the last 24 yrs? Will we get more crony captialism? I bet on it.

I don't either. People liked Christie because of his personality and his intelligence. He was good on his feet, and they were willing to overlook a few policy shortcomings. But just him endorsing Romney isn't going to be a big deal.

Then what is the purpose of endorsing?

To help your endorsement. But often, they don't add up to a hill of beans. In the case of Christie, people were interested in his fire, not so much his policies. So I don't see this as too much of a big deal.
