If you try and suggest that "sexuality" and sex are not related and you can be "in love" and there is no sexual desires then the same is true for incest. Maybe mom and son love each other and want to jump each other's bones? Who are we to deny them the "right" to be married?

Interesting, I know fully well as a heterosexual I cannot simply turn gay and feel normal or good about it, I have a hard time believing you are serious. If the conservatives that post here actually believe its that simple like you then there is a problem. Most of you show how much you revile homosexuality and are fearful of those individuals and their lifestyle, how can you pretend that you could "switch" at any moments notice, lol...

I have posted countless times that single people get the royal shaft.

With respect to adoption, male/female couples first followed by good stable single households. The male/female couple need not be married. it could be brother and sister but providing a male and female role model for the child to witness.

I'm not bi. I am really straight. I just appreciate the beauty of another woman. It doesn't mean I like women. Maybe it does. Who knows. I just know which gender I'd rather be with.

People choose who the like and who they do not like. It's not like they have that choice right in front of them. It's an acquired taste. When people are young, they have no interest in the opposite sex. Girls think Boys are gross and Boys think Girls have cooties. Over time they develop a preference for whatever type of girl or guy they like.

People can decide what type of guy they like or what race or nationality. Why is it any different for gender?

I didn't say it was easy. I said it was easy for me. People acquire a taste for whatever or whoever they like. It's no different for styles, appearances, race or nationality. Why would it be different for gender?

OK, we agree here. But currently government is not "out of marriage" and it is very unlikely that it ever will be -- specifically because of groups like this "Faith and Freedom Coalition" who have a vested interest in maintaining the legal apartheid that currently comprises most states' statutes and is backed up by DOMA.

No I do not for every gruop when it comes to marriage. But since you do you must support pedophilia as well. After all they are a group looking for the equal rights you speak of.

 

Orientation is largely determined by a combination of hormones and experiences. It's more than just a matter of what features you like. The details of a preference are insignificant compared to what gender you prefer.

If someone is sexually abused as a child, they're much more likely to become an abuser themselves. The interest they develop in abusing isn't so much a choice as it is a consequence of circumstances. They can still choose whether or not to abuse someone, but the urges they feel aren't a matter of choice.

With heterosexuality and homosexuality, it's the same. I can't control who I'm attracted to. I can control who I get intimate with.

Behavior is a choice, but attraction isn't.

So, in a society that claims to support freedom, the actions of two consenting adults shouldn't be limited by society, and institutions should provide legal parity for those of a different orientation -- as long as that orientation doesn't involve something illegal.

The reason incest is illegal is because it usually stems from abuses that occurred during childhood. A mother and son can't marry, because it's extremely likely that this relationship came from early abuses on the part of the mother.

Clearly, that's very different from two unrelated adults getting together.

 

So, only genes count in this? I guess it would be ok to ban interfaith marriages then?
