Correction: big business and unions. How you think you have vast knowledge of our country when you live 16000 merciful miles away is beyond me. What a stupid point. Which politicians? Our congress stinks and our president is an idiot, but even then we don't have a 9% approval rating? Did you just name that number because it sounded bad but also believable or what? Your economy is in tatters. Ours is growing and showing positive signs, even though we admittedly are still in recovery. Edit: I think I should clarify. Both the US and NZ have slashed GDP growth projections, but ours is around 2% higher than yours. I know, I know, but still. I await your braindead rhetoric greatly. Why do you think we are losing the wars? We killed Bin Laden, killed Hussein, and are severely weakening Al Qaeda, even though they cost waaay to much. We accomplished the goals we set out to accomplish. Greece. Spain. Portugal. Ireland. Italy. The euro zone is collapsing, defaults expected for Greece, Portugal, and Ireland and fears of it spreading to Italy and Spain, and all you can do is bash America like always.
"Incidentally, and bipartisan political football is a fascinating show for simpletons which distracts from the Sedition (Bread and circuses!), but with the winning score is invariably in favour of the shows organizers who pays by money of millions simple-minded Santa Clauses mostly. Useful in the past political mover has degenerated into huckstering ruse; with a small difference in approaches, this business model allows to keep domination of Big Money and not to admit the strangers into power." It's not democracy ("government of the people, by the people, for the people" - Abraham Lincoln). A true Democracy and Liberty is here: http://www.modelgovernment.org/en/
I'm not a Christian and I don't beleive in beggaring myself to help another. I pay enough taxes, everyone in America pays enough taxes. If the current tax revenues can't afford the welfare state then there is no alternative but to kill the welfare state. Welfare States are a Luxury, not a right
I have been to the United States many times and I have family who live there. Whenever I go to your country I witness a Tale of Two Cities, one America with plenty and another victimized.
The only victimization I see is the victimization of the poor by authoritarian government, the same authoritarian government that leftists like yourself want to give more power and more money.
Parliamentary governments are generally better suited for representing a multitude of viewpoints. Also, Prime Ministers seem better suited for leadership, since they are party leaders rather than elected separately. Granted, the Australian system does have one drawback. The single transferable vote system overrepresents fringe groups. This is part of how people like Steve Fielding entered office. Fielding was an influential member of the Family First party that helped to push for an internet blacklist in Australia. Thankfully, it appears that this blacklist never was fully implemented, but groups like the Family First party are a good reason to get rid of the single transferable vote mechanism.
It's cute seeing some Wall Street shill pretend that Obama is out to get him, but the truth is that Obama was bought by them just like his competition is. It's also cute seeing someone who is likely a nobody worship day traders as if they possess some higher intellect as a result of their profession.
SM is not pretty much the biggest brainwashed corporate drone I have encountered. How someone can believe that giving the rich even more money and power will somehow help everyone is laughable. I can't wait for the day America adopts some more socialist policies. A mix of capitalism and socialism is what the vast majority of Americans want.
I enjoy Silicon's post, for entertainment value only. I get a good laugh out of them. Every class needs its clown.
