I'd be curious where conservatives disagree with him on this.

    He supports:
    • no path to citizenship for illegal immigrants
    • no voting rights for illegal immigrants
    • gaining control of the US Mexican border in 12 months
    • English as the official language
    • faster deportation of criminals
    • guest worker program for those american employers that requesting a need for immigrant workers (outsourced to American Express, Visa or MasterCard to minimize fraud).

And the one getting everyone excited?
    • Don't deport aliens that have been here a quarter century with deep family ties.

Er, that's the deal breaker? Really? I think cooler conservatives heads need to prevail here. I don't know about you, but I actually like the idea. We've lured illegals over here winking at them on the way in. It's the US government we should be angry with, not the immigrants per se. If you were a mexican would you pass up that deal? The key to changing things is to stop the flow, and stop the benefits for coming here illegally. Not cracking down on mexican grandfathers that have been here a quarter century. For that, be angry at the government.

Gingrich Tells Newsmax: No Amnesty, No Citizenship

But "there is no path to citizenship in my Tuesday night comment on immigration," Gingrich told Newsmax. "There is a path to non-deportation for certified, very long-term community members but they would not have the right to vote."

The goal of his plan, Gingrich said, is to gain control of the border in 12 months while ensuring that English is the official language of the U.S.
government. He wants even faster rules for the deportation of criminals and a guest worker program "outsourced to American Express, Visa or MasterCard to minimize fraud."

Only in that context would a citizen panel "evaluate applicants and certify if they have been here so long and have such deep family ties they should be allowed to have" legal documents.

But that does not give them a path to citizenship or to voting in U.S.
    elections, Gingrich stressed.

"I do not believe the American people will accept the deportation of people with children and grandchildren and two-plus decades of local community friendships, church membership, etc (that was the specific group I referenced Tuesday night."

On Friday, Gingrich is expected to elaborate on his immigration policy at a campaign event in Naples, Fla.

But if you disagree, please share what you would do as president.

    Bait and switch?

First you promise all the things on Newt's list in return for issuing green cards millions of illegal aliens.

And then you start chipping away at the conditions till there are none left.

That's what happened in 1986 when the bleeding hearts got what they wanted for the illegal aliens but never delivered on their side of the bargain.

Illegals are voting right now even though they're not allowed to. Only way to stop them is to get them out of the country.

How do we verify an illegal has been here 25 years? In most cases there is no way so the govt will simply ask the illegal and if he says yes, he can stay!

So your argument is, Newt is lying?

So what's to prevent you from thinking every politician is lying about this? To me that's hyper-cynical. The fact that Newt (and even Reagan) made mistakes in the past regarding this issue, does not mean they haven't changed their view. Most conservatives have.

    Lying, delusional, misinformed, mistaken.

    Take your pick.

The bleeding hearts didn't keep their promises in 1986 and we have no reason to trust them now.

How about showing ID at voting booths? Seems pretty simple and straights forward to me. That'll also cut down on fraud of liberals voting multiple times.

I think it's also possible to verify if someone's been living here for a long time. It's also possible to make verification of citizenship mandatory for employment. But it's something the government needs to do, not employers.

But if that's the case, then you can't trust anyone. So how is that an argument against Gingrich per se?

It's sad to see conservatives self destruct over this issue, especially when so much good reform is possible.

I don't trust anyone in Washington.

Build the fence, put boots on the ground, deport all the illegal aliens sitting in our jails the day they are released.

When I see that the border has been sealed and we are enforcing our immigration laws then we can discuss what to do about the illegal aliens who are already here.

The issue is not all about Newt.

But this is a tread about an idea that Newt is promoting.

How is Newt proposing doing anything different than that?? In fact that's exactly what he's proposing. This is what gets me so confused about conservatives on this issue. They get so emotional, they can't think straight.

Newt wouldn't get his way on this anyway. The Tea Party wouldn't stand for it. So, in a way it is a non-issue for me.

The tea party won't go for sealing the border within 12 months? For english as the official language? For voting fraud counter measure? Really?

    Fine.

But the fence is not built yet nor are there enough troops and border agents in place to back up the fence.

So as of today there are millions of Mexicans passing back and forth across the border illegally.

Plus I don't see all the criminals in our jails going back to Mexico never to be seen here again.

IAW there is so much that has to be done first that it will be years before we can think about even a limited form of amnesty for the best of the best who are here illegally.

Years, maybe decades at the rate they are moving in Washington right now.

Which means we have far more important and urgent things to worry about than rewarding illegal aliens for breaking our immigration laws.

The real issue is about preventing illegals from being in the country long enough to have babies. I just do not think Newt actually cares much about the problem. Ending birthright citizenship is one of the most important issues, but it is being ignored by most of the candidates.

The Republican party is just addicted to cheap labor. The USA has already brought in plenty of hispanic immigrants that are never going to leave, and they have had many many children. So why does the USA need any more migrants?

The truth is that migrants that only recently arrived from Mexico are the most desperate and willing to work for low wages and poor working conditions. But what happens when these migrants have children? Someone has to pay for their education and medical care. The whole thing is a giant pyramid scheme. The taxpayers are essentially subsidizing the cheap labor for the agricultural corporations.

Do you think it is only a handful of agro-corps who are pushing the illegal alien invasion?

How about the liberal Democrat mayors of most big cities who promote themselves as sanctuary cities?

At some level I agree with what your saying but how can we birthright citizenship and not endanger are own citizenship.

This is a question not a disagreement.

Birthright citizenship is a problem. But I would think gaining control over the border with 12 months would be the best preventative for this. I would think governmental proof of citizenship or legal residency for employment would also.

If Newt cleans this stuff up, and I think he may be the only guy with the creative talent to do it, then those problems would seem to go away. But if Obama gets 4 more years, do you realize just how bad this situation can get?

Sounds like a good plan to me! The problem with this idea is it will never be supported by the Democrats.

The Democrats will intentionally kill the bill by changing the provision of 25 years to a provision of 6 months. And they will unceremoniously blame the Republicans for the fact the bill did not pass!

The Democrats are a devious and deceitful crew, they are!

What makes more sense is to make eVerify mandatory for employment and ALL government benefits. Then take away their ability to keep legitimate jobs with phony or stolen social security numbers. The SSA and IRS are all too well aware of multiple people using a single social security number. With modern computer databases, it wouldn't be hard to pluck out all the duplicate, non issued or under age users excepting the original issuee. Then send notices to their employers the duplicate users payments are coming from that there appears to be an error and they must verify the social security number within 30 days or face massive fines and jail time.

This is a simple cost effective way to open up approx 5 million existing jobs to the 14 million out of work citizens. It will also save Billions in Government benefits going to those who circumvented the legal immigration process and aren't entitled to benefits that should be going to out of work American Citizens..
