Does the word "stubborn" mean anything to you? If you're a Republican, it should. One thing that most Republicans seem to have in common is their reluctance to recognize what's happening around them. Businesses are literally going bankrupt during this recession yet the right STILL believes that the rich create jobs. I believe there's an explanation somewhere in a psychology textbook. Let me pick one up. I assume the chapter will have the words "ignorance" or "stubbornness" somewhere in the title.

Indeed. Like arguing with a wall. You will always lose.

    BOOM! Headshot!

You won't lose. You simply won't get anywhere.

LOL. THE CONSUMER! Business people simply take advantage of the market opportunities that the consumer creates. If you knew anything about marketing, you would understand that. Obviously your knowledge is lacking in that area.

And rich people don't consume anything, right?

I'm obviously not the one whose knowledge is lacking if you're excluding "the rich" from "the consumer".

Consumers do not create new products, they just buy them. In an Agrarian society, you might be right.

Unfortunately, we are going to have to cut government spending drastically. People will probably starve and die without healthcare. Obama's civilian army will be patrolling the streets in a declaration of Martial Law, and progressives will finally see the outcome of the progress they made.

Yes. The wealthy walk into stores everyday and purchase 500 televisions. Or how about 2,000 bottles of mouthwash? Economic prosperity depends on how QUICKLY money gets into the hands of the AVERAGE consumer.

What makes people buy things? And is it wise for a marketer to enter a market where the demand doesn't already exist?

Yes. Let's see how well business does when consumer spending goes further down the drain. You guys obviously don't understand what you're talking about.

Darn straight! We're as dumb as rocks and we won't ever listen to anyone's opinion!
I KNOW! Stupid republicans still can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that impoverished Russian dominatrices control the entire job market!
Here's a better idea. Go pick up an economics textbook. I assume the book will have "macroeconomics" in the title.

No, they just purchase televisions that are 500x as expensive as normal TVs, but are made by the same companies that make regular TVs. Similarly, every time they buy a Cadillac, they are supporting the same company that makes the Chevy Volt.

Yup. So maybe we should stop taxing the average consumer so much.

My opinion is that the major obstacle to economic productivity is the severe inequality of access to decent land. How else to explain why the poor do not just get together and build their own houses, grow their own food, and build their own factories?

Many construction workers cannot even afford to buy their own house. Obviously the high price of houses has more to do with the cost of land and natural resources than it does human labor. Something is wrong!

I value small business owners create jobs, but from what I have seen most giant corporations are essentially run by overpaid parasitic executives, stealing business away from the smaller family-owned businesses, while creating low quality minimum wage jobs and a totalitarian work environment.

Lack of sufficient architectural, agricultural, or engineering knowledge would be my guess.

They would need to ok all of that with the big feds. The Federal government owns 30% of the land in America and controls/taxes/distributes the rest of it.

The thing democrats/progressives fail to realize is that this wasteful federal government of ours is owned by large global corporations. Or they realize it, and somehow still think that Obama, bankrolled by Goldman Sachs and other monopolistic corps, is not also beholden to the almighty logos on his sleeve.

Who's railing against corporate welfare? Obama? Nope, he knows he's dealt out billions to his cronies. The name is Dr. Ron Paul.

Great! I'm making my point! Not a single one of you guys has commented on the fact that lower consumer spending has caused this recession. COMMON SENSE ANYONE? I didn't think so. :)

Lower consumer spending has caused this recession. Congrats, you figured it out. What the real debate is about is what caused the dip in consumer spending.

Actually, there is a lot more to it than that. It has to do with a part of economics that they cannot pin down in some formula...consumer and lender confidence. Neither has any confidence in our economy because we are being downgraded, printing money, and are in insolvent levels of debt.

We spent and lent beyond our means. We made promises we cannot keep. We signed "free trade agreements" and granted privileges and loopholes to benefit the richest of the rich. It all came through the long arm of the law.

Country. Not just because they say so,but because they say Republicans
Hurt the Country. As in Republicans want Dirty Water and air.
One has got to be either brick stupid or an Elitist Liberal to buy
anything a Dimocrat says or sells.

Well, when you try to argue the economy is zero sum you shouldn't be surprised you don't get anywhere. You may as well be arguing that 2+2=578

You are correct. Many will pretend that you haven't landed DIRECTLY UPON THE MOST PRACTICAL ANSWER. I say, ignore them... their agenda does not allow them to admit that what you're saying answers most of the problems we are seeing with the economy today.

Obama is doing an AWESOME job, considering all things.

I think people are fools, to take their misguided tirades and point them at Barack Obama. He isn't the sum of the problems America is dealing with today. And that should be obvious.
