This is an outrage- $92,000 a year government retirement for a man who professes to hate the government and thinks no one else should receive any government benefits. How the hell does someone get $90,000 a year from being a government official? I'm hope all the republicans who think teachers and firemen are overpaid will be outraged over this.

Rick Perry takes $92,000 a year in “retirement” pay

Texas Gov. Rick Perry would cut the pay of Congress and “totally rethink” America’s social safety net, but Perry quietly “retired” early this year to collect $92,000 in Texas state employee retirement pay.

The pay is on top of Perry’s $150,000 annual salary as governor of the Lone Star State.

“That’s a program that’s been in place for decades as far as I know: I would be surprised why someone would not take retirement they were eligible for. That’s just kind of good estate planning in my opinion,” Perry said at an Iowa campaign stop, according to the New York Times.

Perry became eligible to “retire” due to a formula that counts his age (61), service in the military and a quarter-century in Texas state government. Despite his professed antipathy toward government, Perry has been a state representative, state agriculture commissioner, lieutenant governor and is America’s longest-serving governor.

Still, there is the issue of do what I say, not what I do.

In a Texas Tribune interview last year, Perry said he would “totally rethink” the social safety net, and asked:

“Why is the government collecting your tax dollars for retirement and health care programs? That’s not a stated constitutional role.”

"We need pension reform -- but only for working people, not the rich" -- GOP political platform.

    um...so?
    Its not illegal .
But $92,000 is chicken feed compared to the $1 billion Corzine swindled from customers.Or the millions Nasty Pelosi made from insider trading,or the billions Frank and Dodd swindled from the taxpayers.
    Wheres your condemnation for that?o_O
WOW,I cant believe yall are whining over a measly $92,000 when your messiah throws away millions of our tax paying dollars towards failed green energy companies.
    just wow! Over $92,000!lmaoo

Oh thats so much! Especially compared to the 400,000 Obama gets for the rest of his life. Not to mention security and other perks.

Yeah, just like Clinton, I'm sure he'll be sticking his nose in everyone's business anyway. So definitely gonna need that security.

It just seems like everywhere I look I see Clinton and other people who are of former positions of power like to make their opinions known on every little issue! Possibly the only thing I can respect about George W. is he seems to mostly leave stuff the hell alone. He may make comments if people ask him to, but for the most part it seems like he's enjoying being left alone. Which is how it should be. When you are done being president or whatever, you should just hang back and let other people worry about things. I think that is more respectable.

It could be that George hasn't been asked to do an extra bit for the country on the grounds that the last couple of bits he did was to commit the US into two wars.

    Just a thought.

Your just ignorant. I still see him plenty on radio and talk shows, etc. But freaking Clinton on the other hand wants throw his pretty little opinions anywhere they'll fit. People will quote his opinion on some random current event and my only thought is who the HELL cares what he thinks?

Indeed I am and you aren't the first to point it out.

The fact that you also make the statement indicates, like others, you are unconvincing with your posts.

If you would like, I could get off my lazy ass and find some stats online. But surely you can agree Clinton pokes his nose in business far more than Bush, and whether they welcome it or not I feel the respectable thing is to lay low.

90,000$ of our tax money a year for someone who works 8 hours a week is measly????

This from the people who think 7$ an hour is too much for minimum wage, and think that teachers shouldn't make more than 20k a year.

It seems that you do not comprehend the requests placed on previous Presidents to continue to do their piece for the country. It's more than likely the same was asked of Bush and he declined.

So get off your lazy ass and refute my remark.

This would be an issue if it were an exception. Is it? Or is this common practice?
If so, why single out this one guy?
Granted, our Gov officials are overpaid no-do-gooders who leech off our money, but putting one over the other is just petty.
When BO will be out of office, he will receive how much for the rest of his life?
    How about Pelosi?
    How about Reid?
Any Senator, Representative, Governor, Ex POTUS?
    How are their benefits?
Should BO be paid for endlessly being on the campaign trail, or for doing his job?
C'mon people, they are all receiving tax payer footed salaries, are they not, whether they are productive, whether they are Dems, Reps or whatnot?

rick perry gets 92k a year in pension but wants to reduce pensions and federal government employees to part time status.

he should be forced to donate his pension to charity because of the hypocrisy in his stances

Rick Perry is a good example of why we need to reduce public employee retirement plans.

They are far more generous than the private sector.

Thanks for posting this heads up for us.

That I agree with. Their years served should add to their overall retirement, nothing else.
Just lets not single anyone out.

The odd think about this thread is that it's posted to bash a conservative that the libs dislike.

But overall it's mostly libs who are sucking off the government employee scam and if we reform government pension plans then it is libs who will suffer the most.

    Ha Ha!

If only Perry was a Public Chitcago School Teacher who worked one entire day.....
