Don't you think it would make a great deal more sense to help the private sector get unionised and raise their pay, so as to make your economy work again?

I really don't care how rich someone is or what they do with there money. I simply care about economics. And there is never anything good that happens when a select minority own most of the wealth/money. Absolutely nothing good, unless you are the select minority.

This is ridiculously easy. First off, it's not a case of 'not hiring' it's a case of firing. Second, we're not just talking about federal employees but all the government employees that the Norquistians want to fire. Third, add those massive firings to the effective unemployment rate which is already 20%+ and you're getting close to 35%. Then, add in all those non-government employees who will be fired because you have kicked in the demand side of the equation AGAIN, and voila - 35%.

I expect that's because, unlike the capitalists and politicians, the unions are democratic bodies designed to look after their members. If you made them stronger you wouldn't live in a society with no upward movement and with falling real wages.

    It couldn't hurt...

There is no difference between income earned from the Govt and income earned from the private sector. Income is income, employment is employment.

You don't have a middle class - just the very rich and the rest (40% of whom believe they are rich).

I think he asked you a question about why low taxes are not stimulating the economy. I'd add this question - why did the US go through its longest period of sustained growth in history with the outrageous taxes we were paying pre-Bush?

Not only democratic but the essence of capitalism. Where does it say that workers can't capitalize on their labor?

Because we actually had some control of the spending. Bush and Obama have gone crazy with the spending.

This is correct, people simply do not understand how business works. They go after PROFIT. They do not stop going after profit whether their taxes are 80% or 5%. And if businesses jack up their prices to compensate for the increase in taxes that opens up the door for new businesses that are willing to offer goods at lower prices.

Higher personal income taxes actually were designed to incentivize individuals to invest more in their business to earn more profit.

The reason the wealth gap is getting out of control is the wealthy are not only providing products at uncompetitive prices, but they are also able to keep more of the money, which leads them to invest less in their businesses. And the more and more money the wealthy make the more we have to lower taxes because the Govt somehow has to supply a demand so that the wealthy continue to produce.

Some people just don't understand basic math and logic.

You're right. Why don't we just have the government nationalize everything? Then we can have 100% employment all the time. Those who are unable to work can simply be euthanized (painlessly, of course) for being a burden to the state.

And you really think that any of the Republicans besides Ron Paul want to do anything about the size of government? Look how much the size of government expanded under Bush. I don't see any evidence that the government is going to be any smaller in 2017 than it will be in 2013.

Obviously you don't understand the BASIC tenets of capitalism and an expanding economy. Every one of those government employees is a consumer. I don't know about your business, but my business depends on people with cash in their pockets.

And those "consumers" are being paid by the tax payers. Those "consumers" would have been better off in the private sector where one of those evil corporations would be paying them instead of the tax payer.

I find it sadly hilarious how the totally brainwashed and completely biased loony liberals are so quick to show graphs how the rich are getting a greater share of the nations income. But NEVER show how the rich are paying a greater and greater share of the nations income tax.

1980, the top1% paid 19.05% of the income tax.
1980, the bottom 50% paid 7.05% of the income tax. [and actually paid it]

2009 the top 1% paid 36.73% of the income tax
2009 the bottom 50% paid 2.25% of the income tax $19 billion. But subtract from that, the $59 billion that the bottom 50% got in EITC. [net, $00.00, 0%]

1980 those between 10% and 25% of the income, THE REAL MIDDLE CLASS, paid 23.74% of the income tax.
2009 those between 10% and 25% of income paid 16.83% of the income tax.

Taxes PAID by the richest have doubled. Everyone else has seen their tax share go DOWN. And the bottom 50% not only PAY NO TAX, they MAKE $59 billion from the tax laws.

1980 the top 25% of income made 56.70% of the income.
2009 the top 25% of income made 65.81% of the income
DOWN FROM 2008 at 67.38%, Down from 2007 at 68.71%, down from 2006 at 68.16%, down from 2005 at 67.52%, down from 2004 at 66.13%

So the top 25% have been making a lesser share of the income, But paying a greater and greater share of the income taxes.

The bottom 50% received 13.99% of the income in 2003 and 13.48% of the income in 2009. But the ever increasing EITC does not count as income for the bottom 50% and it is up to $59 billion now.

So the bottom 50% share of the income has gone UP since 1980 and their tax share has gone down [to 0%] while the unfair rich have received a smaller share of the income and have paid a larger share of the income taxes.

YES, the rich are making more money, BUT NOT a greater share of the income. And the lower 50% of INCOME EARNERS are paying less and getting a $59 billion dollar subsidy.

We could reduce government down to 7% of GDP.

Useless government drones would be on the bricks, but real jobs could make a comeback.
