Taliban again refuses to surrender bin Laden
    Britain warns Taliban

Blair: 'Surrender terrorists or surrender power'

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Afghanistan's ruling Taliban refuses to surrender Osama bin Laden without proof he was involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, the Taliban ambassador in Pakistan said Tuesday. But ambassador Abdul Salam Zaeef said the Taliban are ready for negotiations with Washington on the issue, an offer the United States has repeatedly rejected.

Zaeef also dismissed threats by the United States and its allies that it would topple the Taliban regime. "Only Allah changes the regime and only Allah brings the others instead of us," he said.

Both President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair issued tough warnings to the Taliban on Tuesday, with the British leader telling Afghanistan's leaders in a speech to "surrender terrorists or surrender power."

It came NATO's secretary general said Washington had presented its allies with "compelling" proof that bin Laden and his al-Qaida organization were behind the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

In response to Blair's comments, Zaeef replied: "We don't want to surrender (him) without any proof, any evidence."

"Where is the evidence? Where is the proof? We are not able to do that," he added, speaking in English.

When asked about NATO's claims that the proof was conclusive, he said: "If they are giving it (evidence) to the other countries, it belongs to them, not to us. They haven't given it to us."

The United States has rejected Taliban offers to negotiate, insisting that bin Laden and his chief lieutenants in his al-Qaida terrorist network be handed over unconditionally.

"We are ready for negotiations," Zaeef said. "It is up to the other side to agree or not. Only the way of negotiation will solve our problems. We should discuss this issue and decide."

Meanwhile, Pakistan's president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who has pledged to back the United States against bin Laden and the Taliban, was briefed Tuesday by the U.S. ambassador on the status of the American investigation into bin Laden.

A Pakistani official said afterward that Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin provided no conclusive proof that bin Laden was involved in the terror attacks.

"We have yet to receive any detailed evidence about the persons responsible for the horrendous act of terrorism, or other links with bin Laden or al-Qaida," Foreign Ministry spokesman Riaz Mohammed Khan said.

Embassy spokesman Mark Wentworth said the 90-minute meeting included several issues, among them "the status of the investigation to date." U.S. officials could not be reached to comment on the Pakistani foreign ministry statement.

On Monday, Musharraf told the British Broadcasting Corp. that U.S. strikes against Afghanistan appear certain. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry underscored that Tuesday, saying: "We have told them (the Taliban) that they don't have much time."

Taliban officials have repeatedly said they are not afraid of American military action, and a rally in Kandahar, the southern city where the Taliban was formed, appeared meant to underscore that defiant message.

The Afghan Islamic Press, an Islamabad-based private news agency close to the Taliban, said 10,000 marchers burned American flags and effigies of President Bush, shouting that Afghanistan would not give up bin Laden. Later, Taliban officials in Kabul put the number of protesters at 50,000. No independent confirmation could be obtained.

Abdul Hanan Himat, the Taliban information minister, said marchers also denounced Afghanistan's deposed king, who has indicated he might ally himself with groups seeking to topple the Taliban.

The Taliban also appeared anxious to dispel any rumors of an internal split. The Taliban's No. 2 man — Mullah Mohammed Hassan, who is thought to be more flexible in his thinking than Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammed Omar — took part on a pro-government rally in the southern Afghanistan city of Gardez, Taliban officials said.

And that somehow makes US domestic violence OK, or less bad? In your mind, because its not religious in nature, it makes it less condemnable?

Dono, you are wrong. A beaten woman is not going to see this as mitigation. They just want to the beatings and raping to end.

Just admit it! These statistics of the US are shocking! They illustrate a broken society and broken men. I wonder how many of these men have seen service?

I don't believe that I said we could civilize them, while they remained orthodox Muslims.

I never said that it did. Our own society condemns it and punishes it. You are trying to compare that to a religious police officer beat down of a woman in public. You have failed completely.

    From your own survey:

"Among males, 92% reported experiencing physical violence from a partner, while 6% said they experienced both physical violence and stalking. However, nearly half of all women and men reported experiencing "psychological aggression" from an intimate partner."

You see how this works? If you have ever been slapped or punched by a girlfriend- you are a victim of sexual violence. It makes for great headlines, don't you think? But, it hardly compares to the public beating of a woman for flashing an arm or whatever by the religious police.

No problem. They weren't playing Court TV after 9/11 with the Taliban. Bin Laden later admitted that he planned 9/11. We all know that his bases were in Afghanistan.

Rodney King? <Insert the very long list of US police officers beating, sheeting, tazoring US citizens>

The "it's religious" argument doesn't work. Both these societies are authoritarian in nature. You've no idea how close your society is to Afganistan.

I don't know why the Taliban are this bad. All I know is that Afghanistan was involved in a war with the Soviet Union, the USA helped Afghanistan out because we were at war with the Soviet Union. Now the Taliban has been in power since 1998 and the Taliban hates the USA, and oppresses its own citizens. Its oppression of its own people is why I have no sympathy for them.

American males have had a few centuries of improved nutrition and breeding over pale, sickly European factory workers. That's why the French women marveled at the size of the American men that saved them the first time in 1918. You should read a little bit more military history, and stay away from Marines- if you want to enjoy corn on the cob.

It would be hard to kill American troops if they weren't occupying Afghanistan.

...this is a good point...with fighting dogs bred specifically for the pit, only 20% are good enough to make it to competition...meaning 80% are utter crap and culled.......so while American and Euro genes might be from the same pool, the difference is America has followed one trait and Euro has followed another...sadly, we are being taken back to the sheep that were happy to be ruled by monarchy in Euro, instead of the brave that were willing to look for something better in America...thanks for that liberal Demorats!!!!!...
