We threatened to cut off Iran's ability to sell their oil. Are you also ready to attack South Sudan? We have decided to sell them weapons ...

We are being betrayed by the liars and schemers.. and the price is high.

For three years Iran has been warned through diplomacy yet has went full speed ahead with its nuclear program. Now they resort to whining when the spanking is coming.

Right...because as we all know, in WWII we were able to defeat Germany and Japan with only air power and required no ground forces...

So you are OK with Israeli paranoia dictating who can build nuclear power plants?

Meir Dagan and Tamir Pardo say Netanyahu is crazy and Iran is no threat.

We must not forget that if we listened to the pacifists and so called UN "inspectors" in 2003 Saddam would have used all those WMD he had and the entire world would be speaking Iraqi today. I thank god every night before I go to sleep I'm not speaking Iraqi.

I've never read so much poppycock as this! America 'defending'? Give me a break. America doesn't do anything that isn't in America's own selfish interest. To present US belligerence and geo-political manoevering as altruism is simply stupid.

Which WMD are those then? The ones that still haven't been found, despite a decade of occupation?

Oh, and the language in Iraq is Arabic. There isn't an Iraqi language. Always happy to educate.

Glad someone appreciates my humour. It's often the best defence against paranoid insanity.

    That's just laughable.

What part of engaging in activities that are specific to the development of nuclear weapons (to paraphrase the IAEA) has to do with "trying to expand their electrical grid"?

Quit insulting our intelligence and making yourself look like a fool, Margot. You're only kidding yourself...

It is apparent to me that Americans who criticize America as a whole, do it because of low self-esteem.

There is a way, of course, to comment on the nation's political activities, positive or negative, that does not "make America look at fault", but rather defines what exactly was wrong in certain decision making. But that way is not the method usually chosen by folks with low self-esteem. They just like to blurt out "America is bad", "America is at fault", "America is the evil".

If you are not planning a ground invasion (and why would we?), taking out air defences and crippling the economy under the guise of striking strategic targets (you could argue that electrical generating capacity could be diverted to power nuclear bomb material production, for instance) would strike a heavy blow against Iran. Airports, bridges and similar choke points would also be very painful to lose.

Offset against this will be the treatment of any Americans (especially pilots) who happen to fall into Iranian hands, the inevitable terrorist incidents by Iranian proxies and allies, the boost to the Islamists of handing them such a propaganda coup (who will ignore the fact they consider Shia Muslims vile heretics who need to be converted or killed) and general global condemnation (particularly by Russia and the Chinese).

What would not be a factor are Iranian ground forces with no anti-air capability. They can't invade the USA and attacking one of their neighbors ruins their whole propaganda position. They'd end up wasting resources moving units around to guard against possible threats and nothing else. I don't think a strike against Iran makes much sense, but an invasion makes absolutely no sense.

Then why do they enrich uranium to such a high percentage? They are well above the 5% enrichment they would need for nuclear power.

Attacking Iran like that, especially if it causes any amount of civilian casualties, will remove any barrier or reservation they might have had against giving chemical and biological weapons to terrorists.

We do an attack like that and I hope you have no problem with a decade of VX canisters being set off in malls and smallpox pandemics.

And then we would be forced to launch a ground invasion.

The Russians and Chinese don't care if we get involved in another war.. They will sit back, eat popcorn and watch us swimming for the drain.
