As the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation pressed on during the 2016 election, a senior official with the Obama justice department, identified as Matthew Axelrod, called former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe – who thought the DOJ was pressuring him to shut down the investigation, according to the recently released inspector general’s (OIG) report.
The official was “very pissed off” at the FBI, the report says, and demanded to know why the FBI was still pursuing the Clinton Foundation when the Justice Department considered the case dormant. –Washington Times [https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/apr/23/justice-departments-attempts-influence-investigati/]
The OIG issued a criminal referral for McCabe based on findings that the former Deputy Director “made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor – including under oath – on multiple occasions.”
McCabe authorized a self-serving leak to the New York Times claiming that the FBI had not put the brakes on the Clinton Foundation investigation, during a period in which he was coming under fire over a $467,500 campaign donation his wife Jill took from Clinton pal Terry McAuliffe.
“It is bizarre — and that word can’t be used enough — to have the Justice Department call the FBI’s deputy director and try to influence the outcome of an active corruption investigation,” said James Wedick – a former FBI official who conducted corruption investigations at the bureau. “They can have some input, but they shouldn’t be operationally in control like it appears they were from this call.”
Wedick said he’s never fielded a call from the Justice Department about any of his cases during his 35 years there – which suggests an attempt at interference by the Obama administration.
As the Washington Times Jeff Mordock points out, Although the inspector general’s report did not identify the caller, former FBI and Justice Department officials said it

This is getting good. The more rocks that are turned over the more Obama, Lynch, Hillary, Comey, McCabe, Ohr, etc., the cockroaches scurry from the light. Each of them and their underlings have been complicit in these seditious criminal actions and have to be brought to justice.
Isn’t this exactly what the Democrats called “Obstruction of Justice” when they accused President Trump of doing it and demanded impeachment?

Trump been attacking his DOJ and the FBI for some time now, obstruction of justice is wrong no matter who does it, impeach them all if found guilty - glad Trump supporters are starting to understand how wrong Trump is to attack the DOJ and FBI and that he should be impeached

Look what the lefty media did trying to get her elected. They threw away any credibility they had. Now they're just dinosaurs and the only people who watch that garbage are stuck in airports waiting for their flight to start boarding.

You mean Trump should be impeached BECAUSE the upper level DOJ and FBI leadership conspired and knowingly used a fake Trump Dossier that they also knew had been paid for by Hillary Clinton to try and take down Trump by any means possible? Yes, that makes Trump EVIL.

I don't think Trump should be publicly calling out the FBI and DOJ on this stuff because when Clinton goes on trial part of her defense will be that there was pressure to prosecute her from a president. What Trump should do is up the phone and ask Sessions, not steer, but ask, what the status of the investigations are and who's being investigated. And since the left loves their leaks, it can all be leaked to the media regarding who is under investigation and for what.

on trial for what using personal email, Trump admin is using personal email and Trump is using his personal phone now

the right leaked on Clinton constantly, the left has hardly leaked on Trump at all

ironically the ones leaking on Trump have also been the ones on the right mainly

You forgot to add the bit about having classified information on an unsecure server. Merely using personal email is a red herring, which I assume you're more than well aware of considering how long we've talked about this issue.

it was a private server, the previous republican SOS used AOL (unsecure 3rd party email? they did not even know who had access) same with Pence (AOL email) and the Trump admin (not sure what 3rd party email they used, have they ever been hacked? are all the people with access to their email trusted....

is Trump's cellphone a private server, sure is if any apps has any open ports, that makes it a server as clients can connect to it - does it connect to 3rd party servers too, sure does

What does any of this have to do with Hillary sending classified intel over an unsecure server?

Not to mention that Presidents don't need to have security clearances, and they can decide what should and should not be classified.

Zerohedge doesn't seem to understand what "they can have some input" means. This was clearly not "operational control"

But then that's zerohedge...a financial blog that dabbles heavily in Russian agitptop

This is reported in many places except the democrat industrial media complex that is fixated on a porn star.

Are you claiming the OIG report is false?

As the Washington Times Jeff Mordock points out, Although the inspector general’s report did not identify the caller, former FBI and Justice Department officials said it was Matthew Axelrod, who was the principal associate deputy attorney general — the title the IG report did use..
Mr. McCabe thought the call was out of bounds.
He told the inspector general that during the Aug. 12, 2016, call the principal associate deputy attorney general expressed concerns about FBI agents taking overt steps in the Clinton Foundation investigation during the presidential campaign. -Washington Times
    ~Snip~
The Washington Times notes that those familiar with DOJ procedures say it is unlikely Axelrod would have made the call to McCabe without Yates' direct approval.
“In my experience these calls are rarely made in a vacuum,” said Bradley Schlozman, who worked as counsel to the PADAG during the Bush administration. “The notion that the principle deputy would have made such a decision and issued a directive without the knowledge and consent of the deputy attorney general is highly unlikely.”
Given that Andrew McCabe may now be in a legal battle with the Trump DOJ, the Obama DOJ and former FBI Director James Comey - who says McCabe never told him about the leaks which resulted in the former Deputy Director's firing, it looks like he's really going to need that new legal defense fund.

As much as I don't think it's wise to reply to trash like this OP as it just encourages more, I thought I'd add some context.

All day long I've been reading the right wing narrative about how Mueller can not indict Drumpf because it violates DOJ policy. The link I'm going to post includes a tweet by Maggie Haberman in turn including Comey's testimony regarding DOJ policy on not publicizing ongoing investigations before they are complete.
    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...out-clinton-foundation-probe-raises-questions
Viewed in that context, Axelrod's call to McCabe is really nothing more than a reminder not to publicly discuss an ongoing investigation, especially so close to an election. A rule Comey himself violated likely contributing to Hillary's defeat.

    Next.

    These memos?
Pressure to Release Comey Memos May Have Backfired on G.O.P.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/20/us/politics/comey-memos-released.html

WASHINGTON — For days, top Republicans in Congress demanded the release of James B. Comey’s memos about President Trump, threatening Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, with a subpoena if he failed to share the highly anticipated documents written by the former F.B.I. director.

But if Mr. Trump and his allies believed that Mr. Rosenstein’s refusal would deliver a pretext to call for his firing, as Democrats asserted, his decision to quickly release all the memos late Thursday night foiled that plan. The memos leaked to reporters hours after being delivered to lawmakers in both parties.

And the seven memos, in which Mr. Comey methodically documented his interactions with the president in real time, did little to help Republicans undermine Mr. Comey’s credibility or expose contradictions with his best-selling, tell-all book. Taken together, the 15 pages of detailed notes largely back up the stories that Mr. Comey told in congressional testimony, in the pages of his memoir, “A Higher Loyalty,” and during numerous television and radio interviews.

“I’m not quite sure how this improved the strategic posture of those who want to dismantle the special counsel investigation,” said Representative Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland. “This is a tactic that has backfired. From what I’ve seen of the Comey memos, they bear out completely the authenticity of his reports and his own credibility.”
