    And, fortunately, that's what the Civil Rights Act of 1964 made forever illegal in the United States, 58 years ago. As they say, "We've come a LONG way, baby!" :cheerleader:

    Irrelevant to what I wrote and you quoted saying you disagree with. Racial discrimination against anyone encourages more racial discrimination. It undercuts efforts against racial discrimination if you yourself engage in racial discrimination.

    It takes what it takes. Look at how long it took for western civilization to overcome the Dark Ages! The progress seems glacial in many respects, but however slowly, mankind is advancing toward greater degrees of enlightenment.

    The "art" of the thing is for us to avoid killing ourselves off first before we can attain it.

    I think the killing us off is not on the horizon.
    Population growth has been on an exponential rise for hundreds of years.

    The United States is a representative democracy. This means that our government is elected by citizens. Here, citizens vote for their government officials. These officials represent the citizens’ ideas and concerns in government. Voting is one way to participate in our democracy. Citizens can also contact their officials when they want to support or change a law. Voting in an election and contacting our elected officials are two ways that Americans can participate in their democracy.

    What you say is true, but I'd invite you to consider how many billions of germs you can destroy with just one can of Lysol. To say the least, yes, we do have the ability today to destroy ourselves and all life on this planet if we don't control ourselves. And if you consider human history since about the year 1900, the outlook is worrisome.

    I see where you're coming from.
    Yes, mankind has the capability to destroy themselves and the planet.

    That's why we need leaders who are mindful of planet Earth and the technology we have today that can be dangerous.

    But in the end, you and I have little control over such a massive event.

    STANDING UP AGAINST RACIAL DISCRIMINATION: A Warning to the C-Suite on Racial Preferences: State Attorneys General warn Fortune 100 companies about their hiring practices.

    'The Supreme Court ended racial preferences in higher education last month and that principle also applies to corporate America. That’s the message of a Thursday letter from 13 state Attorneys General to the Fortune 100, advising that hiring practices based on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) may also be illegal racial discrimination.'

    DEI is about to DIE?

    “Well-intentioned racial discrimination is just as illegal as invidious discrimination,” wrote the AGs, who were led by Jonathan Skrmetti of Tennessee and Kris Kobach of Kansas. “Companies that engage in racial discrimination should and will face serious legal consequences.” The prohibition exists even if it is meant to counteract historical bias. “If your company previously resorted to racial preferences or . . . quotas to offset its bigotry, that discriminatory path is now definitively closed,” the letter says. . . .

    The letter cites specific examples of corporate policies that “illustrate the pervasiveness and explicit nature of these racial preferences.” In 2020, it says, executives of 27 banks, tech companies and consulting firms “set an explicit racial hiring quota.” The AGs say companies including “Airbnb, Apple, Cisco, Facebook, Google, Intel, Lyft, Microsoft, Netflix, PayPal, Snapchat, TikTok, Uber and others” have also set policies that amount to discrimination on the basis of race. Microsoft set quotas for suppliers.

    'In other examples, Adidas pledged to fill 30% of new positions with black and Latino workers. Target released a race and gender breakdown of its teams and pledged to increase hiring of black workers by 20%. In a letter to Target last week, Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) called the company’s racial hiring benchmarks exactly the kind of racial quota that is illegal under federal civil-rights law.'

    'The letter is important because the AGs enforce the civil-rights statutes in their states and many of those track closely with federal civil-rights law. Their application of those laws may begin shaping corporate policy even before the federal courts act to apply the logic of the Supreme Court’s Harvard decision.'

    Whether the "woke crowd" likes it or not, slowly but surely our society is going to become one in which every American citizen is going to be treated as the exact equal of every other American citizen before the law of the land!

    No preferences, no government set-aside contracts for "special groups" based on race or ethnicity, no quotas, and no "reparations" handouts! All of this un-American, un-Constitutional nonsense needs to be stopped immediately and never allowed to contaminate anything in this country ever again.

    I think it is economically efficient. As our society and economically becomes more complex it will become more important that people of superior intelligence be in charge of things. Affirmative action interferes with that. Emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion interferes with merit, qualifications, and excellence.

    Companies do not need a work force that "looks like America." They need a workforce with the intelligence to perform adequately.

    The end of affirmative action will bring more poverty for blacks, and higher incomes for Jews and East Asians.

    Negroes are unlikely to take their lower incomes peacefully, so we will need a harsher criminal justice system.

    I just heard that legacy admissions are more qualified than general admissions.

    Which is not surprising if you believe in genetics.

    Brilliant parents usually have intelligent children who nevertheless are less intelligent than they are. This is called "reversion to the average." Exceptional characteristics are based on rare and recessive gene alleles that rarely match in the children.

    True, but MIT is a science and engineering school. They don't really have any choice if they want to actually get students who are up to a rather vigorous curriculum. Most of the rest of the Ivy League can dumb down to a community college level of curriculum that won't effect their standing for years.

    Nope they were done because the government insisted and title IX is adjudicated in civil court by Judges who don't care about reality. Telling a small company in montana where the black population is less than 5 percent of the total that 13 percent of the work force must be black is like giving them a death sentence.

    In my first job as a computer programmer my computer shop hired a black computer programmer. It soon became obvious that he could not do his job, he did not try, and he did not care.

    When I learned that he was paid twice what I was I discussed the matter with our boss.

    Our boss told me, "When I was promoted to my position I was told that I would be evaluated in part by my ability to attract and keep black subordinates. I was also told that I was supposed to expect less from them."

    I do not care if anyone calls me a racist. When this happens I want to make it clear what I do believe about the various races.

    Years later, when I was working for another company my boss hired another black computer programmer. Because he did try and he did care I began to mentor him, even thought I had not been told to. He told our boss I was helping him.

    Our boss told me, "It is my job to train the people I hire, but I do not always have the time. You are making my job a lot easier."
