At last, the American citizens react against this corpocracy. I expect that a lot of Americans support this protest. Good luck.

A new social movement will start in USA, and I expect to raise until unnoticed quotes. Will be it the beginning of a peacefull revolution for a democracy where the people has the power and not the lobbies?

Did the protesters get the required permits? If they didn't, they'll be disbanded and shuffled off to somewhere else.

While I disagree with the spirit of this protest, I do think people have the right to assemble and petition government and all that. But the reality is people have to beg permission these days to assemble by getting permits.

For your sake I hope they did that.

So, to protest you must ask permission? Where is the right of free association and group? Then if you're right even you have less freedom that us in Spain.

We don't need permission to demonstrate, we should notify at the authorities to take precautions but they can't ban it.

And as I understand your comment you must ask permission and it lasts a lot of time to be given?

And why you don't agree with the protest?

Sadly, from what I understand most jurisdictions require people to get a permit to assemble and protest. They'll say you're disturbing the peace if you don't.

You ask if I agree with the protest - well, I agree you have the right to protest, but I don't agree with the idea of protesting Wall Street. Wall Street as a whole is a place where major corporations and the like have offices. They largely follow the law.

I think a better protest would be on DC, protesting the cronyism that goes on between government and big business.

But hey, have at it. I agree you have the right to protest.

Wall street are the markets, and it is the biggest representation of the cronyism. Wall Street is the one that indicates the policies to be taken. The problem are:

    - Wall Street
    - Government
    - BIg corporations

So I consider it a well place to start. And if it has many people protesting it can be widened to other places. In Spain for example the protests didn't limited to one place, for example a month ago we protested front of the parliaments(of all communities, something equivalent to your states).

While a person does have a right to protest in the US, they do not have a right to disrupt traffic and inconvenient other people going about their normal daily routines.

While a lot of communities use "permits" as a revenue generator or a "permission" system, the intent is to allow areas where people can protest without being disruptive.

LOL. Now I have finished to see a discussion about it in Spain. Today about 9 0'clock morning a group of protesters interrupted the circulation in a motorway. Well, in Spain you have to inform that you will protest but one time informed you can do the protest. Also you can protest without report anything to the authorities. For luck we don't need permission. We have this right thanks our constitution.

Well, so if there is a big protest, and must be cut some streets? They need to get permission? Isn't enough to report it, and the authorities take precautions to make the protest be done safely? Is it necessary that authorities give permission, so if they don't like for what they are protesting directly can ban this protest?

As I said, permits are not suppose to be a "permission system.

If I wanted to hold a protest rally on my own property, I do not need a permit. As long as the gathering isn't large enough that it causes legitimate issue, such as traffic or sanitary concerns, I am completely within my rights to hold the protest.

If I hold the protest on public land or in a dense city environment, I would need the permit so that the City can insure my protest isn't disruptive to others not involved with the protest. Other people have rights as well and if I disrupt them, I could be violating their rights.

The same rules apply whether it is a protest or a large family reunion.....or any large gathering.

You do not need anyone's permission to hold a poltical gathering. Many jurisdictions make it appear that you do but you don't. You do not need a permit, you do not have to comply with any special rules or laws about mass gatherings. No restrictions on political gatherings have ever survived a concerted challenge and only a very few have made it all the way to the Supreme Court where they were routinely shot down.

A friend of mine was involved with the Hemp rallies in Seattle some years ago. For the first few years they were small and the city ignored them. Then one year 30,000 people showed up. The city demanded negotiations for the next years rally. My friend was one of the negotiators. They tried to be nice about it but the city kept putting more and more onerous conditions on the rally to the point where it became impossible to hold it at all. The negotiators then told the city that they entered into the negotiations only because they were trying to be nice and accomodate the city's concerns but because the city was being so uncooperative they have decided to hold their political rally when and where they pleased without notice or cooperation with city officials.

The city backed way down because there really was no way they could stop it and eveyone knew it.

If you want to hold a political rally without interference from local officials have it on Federal property. The federal government is particularly constrained in restricting political speech due to a number of Supreme Court rulings.

I'll bet dozens support it and not a one will be peaceful. I love it when the leftists talk about the people as if they have any support from "the people".

You're right, it is probably more liberal minded people that would attend this event. As we all know Conservatives love to kowtow to big business, hence the deregulation that preceded our economic collapse.

Bush to Monsanto (1987) : If those guys at the FDA give you a hard time, call us, we are in the de-reg business.

LOL, So government should be watching wall street? So the markets can't autoregulate? Capitalists don't say leave alone the markets and they will auto-regulate? Then here you have the bubble. :-D

Then I think that the protests are correctly directed. To Wall street, also it would have to be directed to the government. I believe or I expect that in the future they will do, too. And how Wall Street and the government are in different cities, I believe that protests can be coordinated in both places at same time. But let's leave to them start there, and if it has success then continue to other places.

The good, would be to make protests over all USA.

    From Adbusters--hey, don't ask me:
"A worldwide shift in revolutionary tactics is underway right now that bodes well for the future. The spirit of this fresh tactic, a fusion of Tahrir with the acampadas of Spain, is captured in this quote:

"The antiglobalization movement was the first step on the road. Back then our model was to attack the system like a pack of wolves. There was an alpha male, a wolf who led the pack, and those who followed behind. Now the model has evolved. Today we are one big swarm of people."

Yep, sounds like your standard conservative violent riot. Ooops.

Yes, probably it is a leftist movement, and more in USA. But there can participate verybody, it is open. And for what I understand are trying to copy what we did in Spain, and there are assemblies where everybody is invited to participate, also conservative people.

So, if you're conservative and you don't agree with this system, you can go also to protest, and give your points of view.

I can talk you about what I've lived in the "Spanish acampadas" and there were people of all ages and ideologies. And we've not stopped, the acampadas just was a beginning, to make visible the movement. If you want to fight against the power, against the government and you want to give your vision participate.

You're making a caricature of the leftist movement. All this will accomplish is convincing Glenn Beck's followers that he was right.
