A century later, AG Merrick Garland revives the spirit of the Palmer Raids

More than 700 people have been caught up in the "Jan. 6" net put out by Attorney General Garland's Justice Department. This report by NPR suggests that Garland, in the manner of A. Mitchell Palmer, Woodrow Wilson's attorney general, won't be satisfied until he gathers up thousands more innocent people in a bald attempt to intimidate the Republican Party in advance of this year's congressional elections, and the presidential election, November 2024. Indeed, it seems to this observer that we have just cause in referring to this attorney general as A. Merrick Garland (with the "A" standing for "Authoritarian"). Palmer, between November 1919 and January 1920, is reported to have taken into custody some 3,000 leftist immigrants, with one critic commenting that the aim seems to be "to repress a political party."

A century later, and Democrats appear again infected with the repressive bug to stamp out free speech. It is also to be noted that after a century, The Washington Post has not changed its repressive spots; where the paper, a century ago in this Wikipedia article on "The Palmer Raids," supported the roundup of East Europeans, today's Post, under oligarch J. Bezos, has no difficulty with a roundup of as many Trump people as Garland can find….

The authoritarian nature of the Brandon regime is clear. Garland is the worst AG in 100 years. It’s good that this man never got on the Supreme Court. He’s a gangster thug intending to intimidate the opposition into giving up our opposition to their regime.

You'll notice that those who were filmed just wandering around are getting slaps on the wrist. It those jackasses that caused serious property damage and or attacked directly the police that are getting dates in prison. What's unfair about that? OK, I will agree that getting 3 years for assaulting a police officer while committing a felony does seem a bit light but their leader still hasn't been charged and he's really the one should get long term time but he won't get it because he'll be outside US territory when the charges get laid against him.

 

What’s unfair about that? Would you like to compare them to the sentences of the Black Lives Matter rioters that attacked police? I bet you don’t. If you did u would know why it’s considered “unfair”.

 

Go for it. I doubt you could possibly find any occurrence of a black guy assaulting a police officer under any circumstances getting less than these guys at the Capitol.

No. The FBI should investigate and lock up the guilty ones. Congress should stay out of it and there is no such thing as guilty by association.

 

Would you agree that an unbiased investigation into the facts surrounding January 6 would be something that needs to be done? If so perhaps we can get one in the next Congress.

Even to decide if changes should be made to the system so chances are reduced this would happen again? Recently there have been a lot of election investigations by legislative bodies instead of police. Why would you oppose one more. I do agree that the current investigation by the FBI should continue.

I wonder how the governor feels knowing Federal Agents from start to finish planned, and financed the whole thing, despite the 6 people charged for out repeatedly telling them no to actually doing it.

 

The challenge is to find someone with lesser sentences than those of January 6th. We know heinous crimes are committed daily. By heinous people, like those attacking police officers at Congress which were actually attacks on democracy. The word for that is treason. Used to get you executed now a 3 year sentence is shocking. It should be.
